Do you mean paid, or played? It's the best (highest ranking) hand I've had playing live (as the description says). I don't think I played it well, but well enough to extract maximum value. It's not a deliberate slow roll. I'd only been playing poker for 5 months when this was filmed. Therefore, as a n00b, I triple-checked my hand before flipping it. Unreliable psychic skills unfortunately. Though, I 'd guess you are a friendless areshole. Only someone like that would make that type of comment.

I play microstakes on Stars and none of those idiot players would dream of shipping it with a straight on that board given the action. You have inspired us all to build a bankroll or take out a double mortgage just to sit at a table of donks like you. Laffable river action!!
First off, great hand. Secondly, don't take offense, but you say below that this wasn't an insta-call. Since I don't see a royal flush draw on that board, what could beat you?
Thanks. The reason it wasn't an insta-call is that I had to triple check I actually did have a straight flush before tabling and announcing it. It's was quite nerve-wracking being on telly, and I didn't want to look a 'douche' by saying "straight flush" and turning over a busted straight or similar lol. It does look like a slow-roll though I fully admit.
It is a lot easier when you can see the cards on the screen ;-) Luckily, my opponent didn't put me on the straight flush, which I guess is what matters when it comes down to it.
Wow Zidean is really out of line and an asshole wtih his ranting. Wow zidean you showed how much of the lowest idiot you are. No one cars what you've done or what stakes you ply at. Go live your life, and we will live ours.
Whatever you want to say, be it a disagreement or anything, I am now not replying, I realise this is the only thing you must enjoy in life, acting like some know it all, when really nothing can back that up. I dont have time anymore to reply to you, id rather contructive criticism to an argument or an intelligent reply by someone who knows what they are talking about. You clearly dont. Disagree thats fine. I dont care. Im done with this stupidity.
What country are you from you cunt, What do you think calling someone a prat is? A fucking salutation? Naw its insulting. Now away and do whatever your life allows. You cunt. I replied fast coz have just left a comment then was replied to with a stupid message. Ive actually played at the main event, Ive played 100/200 Holdem my entire career and a king high flush is pretty much insta call on most occasions never mind a straight flush. Nothing can beat that hand. IT WAS AN INSTA CALL.
why do you think i care about your opinion? Prat, obviously another one of these internet hard men who think they can try and insult people, you mustve been sitting waiting on someone commenting, 38 seconds l8er i was replied to. What a pathetic human being you are. People like you are the lowest form of idiot.
What? That makes no sense. It's you that insulted me. I was merely replying to you, saying read why it wasn't an insta-call. As for replying quicky, you haven't done so bad yourself.
These idiots suck, i dont think that idiot even knew he had made a straight flush until right at the end. The donk. Its embarrassing watching these clowns.
read the previous comments, he triple checked he had the straight flush cos he didn't want to look like a donk on national TV, as i'm sure most people would do.
OMG Luke Patten was on my table at the GUKPT London this year and i asked him if he'd ever been on tv playing poker because i had seen him before and he told me no....i hate liars!!!
how the f'ck do u go all-in on the river on that board? flush, fullhouse, higher straight... minimum call and only if you have a big stack... suck a looser
I can only put the all in bet there with tens full or maybe the Ace high flush. His hand was beating f all lol. Its called the idiot end of the straight for a reason hahaha!!!
bunch of idiots, starting with the commentator then the players.. i mean how can the good play on the flop be just call?? and he added, 'let him hang himslef' where do they get these commentators? he had like 9 clubs and 3 jacks.. thats 12 outs...
Yea this was a shitty played hand from both players at every point, including the reads mr. blueshirt gave off the whole way through. Such a crap, crap video. The announcers were even wrong.
Patten played the hand perfectly until the river , not sure what made him push all in there, the only thing I can think of would be the pretty strong bet by Matt Dale in the end. Patten probably thought if Dale had hit his flush, he'd be value betting it a little less....anyways, bad move by Patten. He was thinking a bit too much during this hand I think, when Dale checked his card like 20 times in the end, it might look like he's pretending to check if he really has got the flush...not sure....
Why would he raise? He wants to keep the guy in the pot.. Then again.. Let s say he put his opponent on a flush draw.. He knows that if he just goes all in.. either he wins nothing or he gets called and has to dodge some cards.
Going all in on the river was the dumbest thing ever . Watch how dale threw his chips in.. Much different than before.. the way he threw them just simply shows that something is wrong... Patten fell in love with that hand!
when that guy with the straight raised , the another guy needed to went all-in , because he knew that he had won , so the another would call because he had a straight .
No, not a slowroll. I genuinely wanted to triple check I really did have a straight flush. Pressure can do funny things to you, and I didn't want to look like a donk on telly by insta-flipping my cards, saying "Straight flush", then realising I didn't have it. Thankfully I did have it though :)
Aye, this is true. I've added The Real Hustle clip to my favourite videos - not sure if other users can access them though? I did upload a copy of it myself, but YouTube took it down after a 'cease and desist' request from BBC due to copyright infringement.
lol i mighta just bet big on the flop flush draw out there your opponent probably has overcards if any overcard comes he could possible make a bigger stragiht the all in was horrible move he's adonk lol
definitely, the announcer after the flop says "flat call, that's the correct play", ANY poker book, pro, anybody that knows anything about poker, will tell you to push that particular kind of str8 hard, he should've pushed all-in ESPECIALLY when the guy bet the flop, he's slow-playing a sucker str8, never a good move
he went all in with the straight, what a dope, he should have going all in on the turn if he has going to, dats the difference between pro's and these amatures
It's just incredible. Every single possible draw has been completed, and there's absolutely no hand that you would call all-in with that he can beat, so it's pointless anyway.
If he thinks you're bluffing, like you're saying, then he has to flat call. Period.
wow that was the most obvious reverse tell i've ever seen... you threw it in and checked to see if he's watching how you threw it in. what a loser. your lucky that fat fuck doesn't know the nuts and overplayed his hand fag!
Hahaha yh your fake tell was dreadful and the way you were covering your mouth was the biggest begginners mistake ive ever seen. Your so lucky fat played the hand badly.
As I said below, regarding the slow-roll: "I had to triple-check I actually had the straight flush before announcing it, as didn't want to look a complete fool on telly by saying 'straight flush' then tabling something else. Would have been pretty hard to live down! :)"
This gives me hope. If this donkey is playing for this kind of money, I can do it better. I would understand a scared check - call on the river but this is a terrible play. Everybody at the table must have realised that he was probably drawing to a flush. Shame on you, and on your family too ...
Aye, I'd played hand 2 weeks previously against the same player where I'd been caught bluffing at a very similar board. I was hoping he'd remembered this, so tried to make it look like I was doing exactly the same again. Seems it worked. Luke Patten is actually a very good player - check his Hendon Mob results - but just made a bad mistake on this hand.
As I knew what cards u held it was pretty obvious that u were faking a tell there. I'm just saying that if the opponent were a better player he would've seen through it. Still, well played sir.
That was a very poor re-raise on the river by Patten. He flopped the nuts, but by the river he had the low end of the straight, there was a possible flush, and there was a possible full house with the board paired. A call on the river would not have been a terrible play, but his re-raise all in was only going to be called by a better hand.
Fair play to Patten, I'd played him 2 weeks previously, and he'd caught me make a bluff in a very similar situation then. So, I tried to play the hand the exact same way, but this time with the uber-nuts ;)
I see. I'm not asserting he's a bad player, especially if he got to play at that table. He still should have just smooth called you on the river if he thought you were bluffing, b/c if you were bluffing you wouldn't call his reraise, and if you weren't then it's lights out. There was simply no value to his reraise b/c there was almost nothing you would call with that wouldn't have him beat (you calling with a 10 is about all he could've hoped for).
Aye, Luke should have played the hand is exactly as you say. However, bear in mind everyone wants to make a 'hero play' on TV. I think that may have clouded his judgement - that along with the way I bluffed him out of the almost exact same pot (and showed my hand) 2 weeks previously. It's very different under the lights & cameras and thinking that every move you make is being scrutiniszed (sp?) by Jessie May/Simon Trumper/Vicky Coren etc and shed loads of people on Channel 4 lol ;)
lol, ty. I like to think I'd have played a straight a bit different than that! In this clip, I had to triple-check I actually had the straight flush before announcing it, as didn't want to look a complete fool on telly by saying 'straight flush' then tabling something else. Would have been pretty hard to live down! :)
Hey Matt Dale, Didn't you get conned in a poker game on Real Hustle where Alex pretended to act drunk and Paul dealt? Im sure you were on there. U knew but had no proof. Would have been great if u saw the switch.
Aye, that's true lol :) I had actually uploaded that video (about 2 months ago), but two days ago got a 'Copyright Infingement' message from YouTube via BBC Worldwide saying that the video had been taken down. Fascist bastards! Especially as I had only uploaded the video here to show friends and family. Last time I ever watch Waterloo Road ;)
Yes, it was an amateur poker contest. I qualified to play on the show from winning an online satellite. I came 2nd in my heat on the show so also got to play on Late Night Poker Masters - against pro players.

Congrats on your winnings.

Thanks :)

I've got a straight!..... Um, straight flush. lol. nice

lol, ty. I like to think I'd have played a straight a bit different than that! In this clip, I had to triple-check I actually had the straight flush before announcing it, as didn't want to look a complete fool on telly by saying 'straight flush' then tabling something else. Would have been pretty hard to live down! :)

Lol! Patten should have tried to pressure you pre-flop before you hit the luck jackpot. Nice just calling nonetheless
