  • Too bad they're going modern. Love the gut snare sound, but without the calf heads, it's not the same. Love the open rolls, but if you're not adjusting for a calf head and the current weather conditions, it's not the same.

  • i like the old school drumming a lot more... this new stuff may be played well, but it's crap.

  • @mbt1329: It's "bass" not "base" drum.

BTW, besides performing for the public, The Old Guard is an active duty Army infantry unit. As quick as the tricorne hats and 18th Century parade gear goes on, it comes off just as quick for ACUs, IBAs, M4 rifle and full "battle rattle" with Bradleys and Strykers.

  • Didn't think Glenn Miller was around in the 1760s !

  • My favorite time period for warfare, and I love the marching, and military music as well.

  • Awesome!

  • @KANONSIONNI

  • one more thing, this is continental army guard.. is that right? weren't guard colors reversed red blue and

army was blue red ...these guys ain't brits

  • Apprently, the musicians of the era in the Continental army adopted the red as their color. Of course, I just read that on another video. Not my area of expertise.

  • at that time musicians always wore coats in the reverse colours of the rest of the regiment...for visibility in the field...for example a british rgt who wore green facings on the red coats would have had drummers in green coats with red collars and cuffs...marty

  • great! was there once, never forgot it...thanks

  • Great national muster, great old guard performance... as always.

  • probably remo fyberkyn IV kevlar plasticote double hydraulic aquarians..... :-P

  • pretty sweet performance. i remember watching this in person

  • dude its like dci old school

  • they play with kevlar heads i believe

  • Negative - unless they have changed they use Remo Fyberkyn III heads.

  • now they're a swiss made polyester weave. Stopped using the fiberskins at least a year ago

  • Calfskin heads, then?

  • Are you certain this wasn't at the 2005 National Muster?

  • yes this was at the 2005 national muster.

  • i was here for this. they went on stand right after we did.

  • They would have played fast like that and they also did parades back then. More to the point during a battle the drums are part of the command. You order the retreat, advance, general march with drums and fifes. English or American the musicians did the same job on both sides.

  • Who cares if they didnt play like that back then, im in a corps and we are very authentic. Authentic or not the old guard OWNS!!!

  • Huh?

Seriously, do you know anything about fife & drum bands?

  • well uhhm dipshit? this is what these people do for a living, and if this is a professional, beyond perfectly choreographed group of musicians, wouldn't you think it would've been researched ALOT?

  • uhhm dipshit? Good comeback. Obviously we are well educated. Do you even know what the drum and fife were used for? Because I do.

  • i certainly do know what the drum and fife were used for. communication and a sort of schedule for every day during the times of war. but the old guard still is the best performng fife and drum corps. they may not be authentic but that is not what they are going for.

  • The Old Guard FDC has a basis in history - all of the music they play is either traditional Fife and Drum tunes or it is arranged around music from the period and earlier. The bugles obviously are not authentic to the period, nor are the 10 and 11 hole fifes, nor is the dacron rope they use for their drums. However, for obvious reasons certain allowances are made for that due to the fact that the uniforms and instruments need to be able to withstand the rigors of every day use.

  • Superbe et excellent ! Bravo !

  • a base drummer and a snare drummer from the corp i'm in are going to try to join them. If anyone can, I'm sure they can do it I haven't seen a better duo than them before.

I wish i had one of those base drums, they're awesome!

  • What corp are you with?

  • awesome video

  • nice to see english history still liked overthere

  • sorry to inform. Just because they're red coats... US history. Musicians uniforms of the 1870's.

  • I love that slow march forward a few steps as a flourish to the end of the set. THAT, is STYLE !!

  • yeah my corp is trying to learn that it's pretty difficult!

  • These guys are amazing..I was in the Corps that hosted this muster..best show ever

  • Aren't the bugles (and indeed, the Drum Line drumming) a bit anachronistic for Revvie War?

  • aw thats really cool, i like

  • Cool! I was at that muster!

  • So...what does the "New Guard" play? Digital Bugles and electronic drum samplers? Instead of tricorn hats and justaucorps coats, they wear baseball caps and nylon jackets.

  • hahaha
