How come u didn't just use a scanner to access the BCM in order to find witch door was acting up? And seems like just trying to lube the pin switches before removing the door would have been my first option
thank you for posting these vids, duane. As an aspiring technician, I've learned alot from your channel. You are definately "passing the wrench" on a very grand scale! Thank you again!
50/50 chance of a call back on this one. The switch must be a dealer item and not ready available. Going that deep and not changing the part is risky, in my opinion.
@midlantic1 I was thinking the same thing, besides when the customer sees the labor time ($) on the bill, wont they want to see a new part instead of just labor? I would try to save the customer money, but in this case, I'd buy the new switch.
I watch this transmission repair channel here, and whenever a trans is torn down, they want to replace the damn converter, saying that it is contaminated with metal particles. BS. If they wanted to, they can clean it out easy enough.
@GPSNW You actually asked the exact question I had. We use Alldata and Mitchell for generic service info at school, but I've never seen Alldata point out the way switches function like it did in your video. Was this manufacturer specific info? Also, another awesome video Duane. Keep up the great work sir.
I own a 98 windstar like this one and this is a known issue for these models. This happens to my van about once a year but I have found a much simpler way to fix the problem that lasts about a year before it needs to be done again. I simply spray some liquid wrench or WD40 into all of the front door, and rear hatch latches and take some fine steel wool and clean the contacts on the sliding door which do corrode over time. This has always fixed the problem and the van is good for another year.

It seen that if you was using a scanner to access the BCM it would of saved a lot of time locating which door was the issue.

Duane, I use Alldata for diagrams but the ones you're using look different, perhaps better. What do you use for professional tech info? Thanks, Fred
