when you belong to a certain culture and the rivalry with your neighbor spans a thousand years back, soccer becomes the very peaceful means to settle the many ancient scores you have kept.

you'll find that the common soccer fans around Europe share an extensive geographic & demographic knowledge of one another. we learn about each other through one language, and it's called football.

ajk718 - American approach to "soccer" is rather too commercialized and individualized. sports commentaries in USA spend too much on career statistics as your screens constantly flash statistics of career highs & lows, endorsements, etc. much of your sports require a certain type of attire or exclusive gear, sometimes even an attitude like the classic "grab crotch, dip, chew and spit" baseball image.

nope. "soccer" is beyond all that. all you need is your feet, a ball and a lung full of air..

ajk718 - i suggest prescribing to an Al-Jazeerah or some European digital network out in the USA. then you'll get majority of world's leagues as well as top competitions.

diversity of world football is a little too much for ESPN to comprehend, let alone cover any of it. they would need about 10 to 12 additional channels dedicated to football just to keep up with the rest of us.

the reason that soccer isnt covered in america is because it is sooooooo boring and no one likes to see a grown man hit the ground and roll around in agonizing pain after another player almost makes contact with him. also, for those of u who think american football is pussy i challenge u to go put on pads and run at full speed at someone else and tell me it doesnt hurt... a lot. rugby is certainly a more brutal sport, but for a soccer player to call football pussy is just stupid.

maybe i took it too far, but there is by far more skill in Football(soccer). Why? because we don't have to go over plays the whole time, and don't need 50 coaches to tell 15 players what to every 5secs. Most of the plays come from the players themselves witch makes it much more intersting to watch and we don not need cheerleaders to wake us up. Also, 2 of my best friends that play American ball think the commercial are the best part :P for Example: the dorritos commercial. :P

Still it would be a tough sell because of the time zones difference and Soccer is played during Football season,so the ESPNs would have to question how would they sell to a american audience.

In the US there isnt alot of Soccer fans compared to Baseball and Hockey fans, and especially Football. Also you just cant say hey ESPN make soccer popular, MLS needs to know how to better marketitself and should seek another TV outlet like TNT, TBS or USA or VS to show more soccer. As for showing Euro Leagues especially compared to showing in europe alot of people say we in america get alot of coverage here too.

How can you complain about cricket being boring when your countries favorite pastime is suppose to be baseball. Wouldn't you rather them show cricket then Speedstacking, Hotdog competitions, Worlds Strongest man,fishing comps, Poker, Darts, Pool, that they constantly repeat and repeat because there so cheap they can purchase some real sports
