@ghostie112004 well no not faulty, just not designed for drawthrough. turbos designed for drawthrough have a special seal arangement. rhb31 was not designed for drawthrough.
@XMA1080 Sorry it's like 2 years late lol, but I'm doing a go kart build and have done a lot of research. The smallest turbo ever on a production car (which I'm sure this is what he used) is an IHI RHB31.
as for noticable power from the turbo i was wondering this myself lol... it goes hard but i never drove it without the turbo on it so i dunno how much difference it actually makes... you'd think it would have to make a fair bit more power but i dunno..
no it gets plenty of fuel when the turbo is spooled.. though it still isnt tuned 100%... its quite hard to get it right for some reason and it does idle quite rough.. ive managed to get it pretty good now by blocking one of the small holes in the inlet side of the carby.. not sure what it is maybe the idle circuit? lol.. it idles alot smoother with that blocked... before it would idle really high and then if you gave it a quick rev it would idle down and then stall
@adam27666 I have used a simular set up to yours before, it is very hard to make a carb work on the inlet side of the turbo, because the fuel has too long of a distance to travel and pools in low spots in the turbo and intake. best way i found is to get the compressor housing as close as you can the intake port on the engine. or find a carb that works under boost.
do you have trouble with the fuel delivery once the turbo is spooled up? u said u changed out the jets to get enough fuel once the engine is under boost. but at idle does the engine get to much fuel since u dont ahve boost at idle?? does it have a rough idle?
i bought a set of jet drills so i could play around with alot of different sizes instead of buying new ones all the time.. its a 26mm round slide oko carb, main jet 125, pilot jet 55
the highest boost i got from it was 6 psi but it took a long time to get there.. it lags a fair bit.. makes between 4 - 5 psi pretty quickly though
@adam27666 "i had it reving to 11,500 rpm" if i found my engine runing 11,500 rpm i would be pissed off but at least u actually got the turbo to work anyway.
I didn't know that Casio calculators still made cameras.

Why the fuck did anyone think, that giving a shitty cellphone a .6mp camera and having it record videos was a good idea?
I was a little bit excited when i read the video title. Less excited when i tried to make out what i was seeing :(

my experience with the rhb31 type (china) is that it won`t do drawthrough as the vac sucks the oil out of it.not designed for vacuum

@gilessmokey u must have got a faulty unit wit bad seals mine works great runs well boosts of its head

it does seem to accelerate very quick though

how did u jet the carb? hoe much psi and what did u have to do to build up the engine

cool. thanks for the info.. does the engine acctually ahve noticable power once the turbo is spooled?
dustinwaller87 2 years ago
the engine internals are stock.. only mods ive done is ported and polished heads and re-seated valves and installed a bigger cam...
i had it reving to 11,500 rpm making 6psi of boost (under load of course)... and then engine still runs fine XD
