Mostly her signs of intelligence surround her predicting or summing up things going on around her. She knows that certain things happen at certain times of day (3pm:"walk dogs") or in sequence (grab car keys:"bye bye"). If she sees people eating, she often tries to guess the food. If someone brought it to the door, she knows to say "Pizza!" :)

That probably means that her closest "flock member" is a man, and she's learned mostly by imitating his vocalizations. The African grays won't just pick up the phonemes (the actual packets of sound that comprise a word); they'll acquire the accent, intonation, and, er, "deepness".
Watch some clips of Alex for an example of a male gray who sounds like a woman (as a result of his relationship with Irene Pepperberg).
Our Bibi loves to listen to other birds on YouTube and MetaCafe. If you let yours listen, maybe he'll pick up phrases from other birds. Good luck with your new baby!

I love this bird!! I'd love to have an African Grey when my household will allow. I think my 2 barky dogs would soon turn a bird psychotic. Are cats usually problem with these?

Bibi lives with 4 dogs and 2 cats. It isn't a big problem, but we never leave Bibi alone uncaged.
