My father was a german soldier between 1942 (then he was 18) and 1944 on the eastern front. The best shooters in a german company get the MG42, so my father too. TMy father rarely spoke about the war. This was a typical Russian attack in 1942 (!):

@Caliell I don"t think that they are Nazi soldiers . I see common German soldiers, who fight and died as the common Russian solders. To say that all German solders from the Wehrmacht are Nazi solders is as stupid as so say that all Russian soldiers are Communists. It is very good and realistic movie about the common soldiers in one of the most brutal ideological wars in Europe, that can never happened again here.

I dont know what even watch here. They show majority of German soldiers here as heroes fighting and crying, but not showing the Nazi concentration camps, execution and maltreatment of russian prisoners, pillaging and raping of civillians in Stalingrad. Even German histoy classes to this day omit studying of the periof of World War 2 in their history books. Good movie, but too much propaganda even if there was minority of good germans i Ost Heer army.

We, in the United States produce movies that make us look good and Germans produce movies that make them look bad. Well, I'm half German and half American. So I might be able to see things a little less unbiased. My dad was in the American Army, a combat vet fighting in Italy. My mom's family fought mostly in the east. I lost at cousin at Kursk and my great uncle was captured at Stalingrad and survived....one of the few. I can tell you first of all, Germans don't cry easily as a culture.

And the scene has a German saying "Ich hab in die Hose geschissen!" What a joke. Come on. And then later they hear Hitler speaking and they laugh at him and shake their head negatively. This is unrealistic. After the war, yes, Germans had time to contemplate and discuss what happened, but not during the war. At this point in the war, the war was not lost mentally in the mind of the German soldier. I'm not in any way defending Hitler, but desire to see more realism.

If you would see my video's called Die Wehrmacht - Ritterkreuzträger , thats a video with many Knight Cross Holders , one of the highest rewards in the German Army. They did not crapped their pants in a corner. If you read some of their story's it's facinating. Soldiers taking out several T-34's. You know Mooyman? he was Dutch and awared the Knights Cross for destroying several tanks. I see Knight Cross Holders as real heroes.

@AmersfoortTristan Battles are not won by people crapping their pants. The determination of the German soldier was just amazing. They kept on fighting , even when everything was lost. Outnumbererd an outgunned they would still counterattack. Ofcourse recruits have a hard time on the front and ofcourse everybody is scared for battle. But when in battle things beyond explaining take over. In Battle people can do astonishing things. Like climbing on a tank and placing a mine on it. Things like that
