the smoke is black because it contained a little oil in it to slow the burn and make it fly better and plus that is a mix of ammonuim perchlorate and a small amount of oil makes a black smoke glad you asked

@saluteshell5 There was no oil in this motor at all. The reason it is black smoke motor is because it is fuel / binder rich. It is also a slow burning motor because when you have a fuel rich motor , there is less heat on the face of the grain.

that rocket was fun to see i was there at the launch too very nice quailty exept for you might have wanted to zoom in on the rocket that way when i took off you could see it better but other than that fabulous video hope it flys again.
