I have small trouble with Witmer's early hypothesis that dinosaurs were lipless and cheekless.
Bakker and Paul made it clear that the blood vessel pits in dinosaur cheeks and lips were like lizard's. Cheeks and lips would be elastic, made from skin and connective tissue. But Witmer is correct in that dinosaurs did not have mammalian style "cow cheeks".
They definately did, in south america, terror birds would have survived until the ice ages. The problem is that fossils in south america take longer to describe, as there are less scientists there.
