Lucky you. My mom lives in Archie, MO and its right along the MNAR. I got in the cab of one of their SD40-2's when the other loco was being serviced on the spot. It was pretty fun
It's really weird; a lot of railfans that I talk to say that CSX can be unfriendly and downright rude to us. I've never seen this side of the company, I've always met the nicest crews. =)
The way I see it, its down to the engineer if he wants (or not) someone in the cab. He is a good engineer, he recognises railfanning in a good way and makes someones day. If he gets caught, its down to him, we all have choices, its his choice! I work on the railroad in the UK, If I break rules and Im caught, Im fired. Its all about managing the risk.
Just like anyone else watches these VIDEOS Management of CSX also watches these VIds. if not them they have kids that watch, because of economy CSX is reducing staff and cutting pay, this might be the fuel they need to end a career of an engineer (silicon212) is exactly right it's, a violation of policy to have a non employee ridding their equiptment the engineer is covered by CSX, U are not. Think of Unions, insurance and Liability.
cool vid in all man, but I would be careful with this. I wouldnt take a chance somebody seeing this. If somehow CSX management seen this, its possible that someone could be pulled from service. Dont let a good thing get ruined, by posting vids like this. Just saying!!!!!
You are the fifth person this year to tell me this. Why is it that this video gets all the negative attention and not my 2475 cab ride video? I have yet to see any of this type of comment on either my other video, or anyone else's Class I cab rides. The engineer is still at work, I see him frequently.
you can ride in the locomotive. The big problem is if you fall of the engine and get hurt, there could be some liabilty issues the railroad doesnt want to cover.
Get rid of this video. Back in 1992 I would get cabrides with a certain crew on a certain train out here, when the RR was still SP. Back then they told me to not share any of this with anyone for fear of their jobs (I can do this now because they are all retired and it's no longer SP - but I am still not getting specific). With 9/11 things are even worse so please respect the engineer who still gives cabrides out - get this pulled down ASAP. It's a tough economy, think of Charles' family.
They can sit right here and actually see you in the cab... I'm only telling you what CSX tells us.... take it or leave it, If Charles looses his job over this it would really be sad
It's been over a year and nothing's happened. I actually saw Charles in the yard last month (he waved). I have to ask myself why any company would actually take the time to search out videos like these in order to fire their workers, especially in an economy like this?
I am an engineer for csx and I can tell you first hand if the yardmaster or anyone with csx were to get ahold of this video the engineer can be fired. NO QUESTIONS ASKED... Its simple from the video to find out who it was - Charles in unit 5972. I cant tell you how many memos we have had that states ANYONE WHO IS NOT AUTHORIZED TO BE ON RAILROAD PROPERTY, AND ANYONE WHO DON'T REPORT IT WILL BE TERMINATED, NO QUESTIONS ASKED - that comes from HR in Jacksonville. Company wide!!
Getting lots of mixed signals here...I talked with user SCL1306 and he said that the only way anyone would get into trouble was if an FRA inspector or company official actually SAW me in the cab while I was there.
@meccaturbo xD Thomas the Tank Engine? really? LOL my toilet makes better comebacks then that. And the basement thing. LOL!!!! I guess you know nothing of railroads. -sigh- 2 Epic railroads was bought out by NS. Conrail, and NW. NW owned, Conrail was epic. NS, the fucking horse, decided they have enough balls to buy them out. (well NW anyways) Conrail gave up though due to NS and CSX but mainly NS. You don't have a life do you? stop watching dog-porn and go railfanning like everyone else ok? -_-
@meccaturbo Actully, "NS is a much better railroad" is an opinion. Cannot be proven by fact. "anyone with any intelligence knows that" does it make you feel better arguing on youtube? if you have the guts to sign back...your pathetic, with no life.
@meccaturbo oh look...you don't have a life. :l sad. oh well. Keep fighting all you want. My opinon is NS sucks balls. Get the hell over it. Post back and i wont even bother fighting. Get a life.

@MrCSXboy98 grow up choo choo train boy....you have an anger management problem. Now back to mommy's basement and play with your toys, you retarded loser.
@MrCSXboy98 get back to mommy's basement and play with your Thomas the Tank Engine toy trains, you retarded moron. That's the only thing you're good at.
Would there be any way that I could tell if something happened to the engineer? If it's any help, I was there about three days ago and said hi to him. (he's still got his job) I really hate sounding rude or insensitive, but is there any way that I can remove identifying info from this video, without having to remove it altogether? (cont. in 2nd comment)
(assuming no higher-ups have seen it already) This was my very first cab ride, and sharing it with the railfan community is important to me. Do companies like railroads actually actively pursue places like YouTube looking for this kind of thing? Sorry about the long comment. I'm kinda in a catch-22 situation, between fearing for the engineer's job and having to remove my first cab video.
remove this, now. If they have not seen it yet they will, its just a matter of time. He was nice and gave you a ride, do not screw him over, remove now. get a LEGIT cab ride on a railroad, then you can post it all you want.
You know, I went to a bit of trouble to remove anything personally identifiable in the video description. There's nothing like that in the actual video until the very end, and I seriously doubt that if someone at CSX actually finds this video, they'll watch mine 'till the very end rather than one of the other thousands out there. This video has been up for nearly a year now; something tells me if it hasn't been found by now, chances are slim.
Also another there risking there jobs when they let people who are not authorized to get in the cab .Videos like this should be kept private . I'm Just looking out for the crews job safety .
I was mutil tasking with another thing lol sorry . but seriouley railroads look for things to fire engineers conductors even the simple stuff and this posting a cab ride video can get them in trouble and he said " You was not in here " ment not to post the cab ride video .
Nice man. Good to know hes concerned about your safety but its great knowing you got an opportunity to be inside the locomotive. I'd kill for a ride in one, especially a B40-8 in YN3. 5/5
What would happen if management found out you took on a rider ? I would love to get a cab ride , but I know it's impossible around here where I live .
