Much easier way to beat him than this, WITHOUT using the hammer or such. Swing horizontal, but chop left to right. (If that makes sense) Seeing as how he is mirrored, he will swing the other way, leaving that side of his body defenseless. Common sense really.

i have played through this game multiple times, and i noticed Dark Link fights like you do against Stalfos.
when i first played i just slashed at them, and so Dark Link was easy to defeat, the second time i went played through, i actually used my sheild ( because i someone didn't realise it's use before) and so Dark Link was alot harder to kill because he blocked all me sword attacks with his shield.
Am i just being pedantic or has anyone else noticed this?

@mtiller2006 There is no "man's way" of beating a game. You do whatever it takes, I used din's fire and when I ran out I used the hammer simple as that. But It's still kinda hard with the hammer.

First, have a Fairy on a bottle to revive in case he kills you.
Second, have a broken sword (the one you buy at goron city that cost 200. After using it a while it should break).
Swing at dark link without mercy, eventually he'll receive a hit.
IMPORTANT: Dark Link is very vulnerable when he spawn after you hit it, when it does, turn yourself fast (because he spawns behind you) and hit him right away.
I remember this fight lasting about twenty minutes when I first played this game, and finally beating him when I had one heart left. It was the most epic boss fight I've ever had.

Dark Link should've been the boss of the dark temple not a semi boss of the water temple. He was way harder than that pathetic dark temple boss. Plus they should've made him have a second form if he were the dark temple boss.
@yurtyybomb I always ponder this also. You'd think because he is a shadow of link that it would be best if he was in the shadow temple, but nope. My guess is that water also reflects images and that is what Dark Link is, a reflection of Link himself. Then again, I am thinking too much into this :)

I wish that they would bring back Dark Link as another final boss for a modern Zelda Game. I mean think of the story, maybe after Twilight Princess or something. Like say Dark Link resided in the Twilight Realm and escaped when Ganondorf was causing havoc. Then maybe have Dark Link be the new holder of the Triforce of Power. Maybe this could be the Dark Link to the Hero of Time? Maybe Hero's Shade returns to help in the fight. Just a thought

To defeat him you must not lock,come as close as you can to him and start swinging your sword,until you hit him.If until the water temple you have less than 10 hearts then you need to find a fairy (or you won't need it if your an expert =P).Don't use Big Gorrons Sword as it won't help at all,yes it is stronger indeed than the M.S but M.S will do more damage as link holds the M.S and shield each with one hand.Don't use Din's fire unless it is emergency.Then it's all up to you if u can defeat him
First time I fought him, I tried head-on fighting with the Biggoron Sword and took a lot of damage, then spammed Din's Fire until I was out of magic, then exhausted my arsenal of arrows and bombs, then tried the hammer and he dodged and countered every time, and finally i just went in with the Master sword and barely won. Dark Link was by far the hardest LoZ boss I've ever faced.

@crazy7m Well, it's all in the timing. I do agree that Dark Link is very hard, maybe even harder than the actual boss of the temple (Morpha), but what I do is equip the Megaton Hammer, and rapidly press that C-button while staying as close to him as possible. If I'm lucky, I get a hit on him, then once that finally happens, every time he pops up behind me, I can quickly turn around and hit him without him trying to defend himself (I don't know if that's a glitch or not).
@crazy7m Really? Because the Biggoron sword made absolute mince meat of him when I used it. He couldn't even block it and I didn't take damage once. The secret with the Biggoron sword strategy is you can't z-target him. When you use strategy he uses strategy, he is a clone after all. Just keep spamming the b button to do horizontal slashes. You would think that he would easily escape the attacks but as I said before, he's a clone. If you z-target him he moves like he is z-targeting you, get it?
@crazy7m Actually, the Megaton Hammer CAN work. He can block it with his shield, or dodge it with a back-flip, but it's a LOT harder for him to block than with the Master Sword. This is because, if you swing the sword, he swings too, so odds are, you'll just clash swords. But if you swing the hammer, he can only hope to block or dodge it, which doesn't guarantee as much success.
Though it helps to note not to Z-target him while using the hammer, for even better success-rate.
@crazy7m You messed up. I used the Megaton Hammer and didn't take a single hit. You are supposed to clash swords with him (DO NOT target him) and then immediately hit him with the Megaton Hammer. Every time he comes back at you just hit him with the hammer again (don't parry him again unless you screw up). Even if he is behind you. It should work.
@crazy7m the megaton hammer works if u dont z-target him. another strategy i've heard of is u go into a corner and charge up a spin attack. release the spin attack when he gets close
@crazy7m The best way to do it without any magic power or Din's Fire, (or a hookshot), is to encounter each others' attack and then hit him with the Megaton Hammer. The next time he appears, all you have to do is to keep hitting him with the Hammer he won't defend himself this time. keep doing it until he dies. I did it without losing any damage.
And I don't normally do this but... thumbs up so people can see.
@crazy7m throughout the entire zelda series, regardless of installment, time, or system, dark link has ALWAYS been a bitch to kill. lol, just watch people flail around trying to kill him in Zelda 2 for the NES if you want a good laugh.
I would probably completely hate the water temple if it wasn't for dark link. I remember back when i was like 6 completely hating and loving to fight him. I never was able to actually beat him and after like 5 failed tries, I had my cousin do it for me. Now its been about 12 years since I last played OoT and i'm ready for a rematch. I'm coming for you Dark Link and i'm giving it all i've got.
oh yeah, when u get around to it, don't use the master sword like this person did. it's a waste of time to try to chip at his body, which only happens like every 10 slashes. for ur first time defeating him, u should use the megaton hammer or biggoron sword. he can't imitate that. and if u run toward him at the right moment, u could get a whack at him.

I wish that they would bring back Dark Link as another final boss for a modern Zelda Game. I mean think of the story, maybe after Twilight Princess or something. Like say Dark Link resided in the Twilight Realm and escaped when Ganondorf was causing havoc. Then maybe have Dark Link be the new holder of the Triforce of Power. Maybe this could be the Dark Link to the Hero of Time? Maybe Hero's Shade returns to help in the fight. Just a thought

This is the best mini boss EVER!!!

I love this spot, though. Like how it's a mirage room and how the water is a light blue along with the room. Then it all fades away.

To defeat him you must not lock,come as close as you can to him and start swinging your sword,until you hit him.If until the water temple you have less than 10 hearts then you need to find a fairy (or you won't need it if your an expert =P).Don't use Big Gorrons Sword as it won't help at all,yes it is stronger indeed than the M.S but M.S will do more damage as link holds the M.S and shield each with one hand.Don't use Din's fire unless it is emergency.Then it's all up to you if u can defeat him

First time I fought him, I tried head-on fighting with the Biggoron Sword and took a lot of damage, then spammed Din's Fire until I was out of magic, then exhausted my arsenal of arrows and bombs, then tried the hammer and he dodged and countered every time, and finally i just went in with the Master sword and barely won. Dark Link was by far the hardest LoZ boss I've ever faced.
You guys lie! Megaton Hammer and Biggoron Sword don't help at all!

@crazy7m Well, it's all in the timing. I do agree that Dark Link is very hard, maybe even harder than the actual boss of the temple (Morpha), but what I do is equip the Megaton Hammer, and rapidly press that C-button while staying as close to him as possible. If I'm lucky, I get a hit on him, then once that finally happens, every time he pops up behind me, I can quickly turn around and hit him without him trying to defend himself (I don't know if that's a glitch or not).

And I'm dead serious. Make sure you don't spam the Megaton too much.
But that was just me going through the game on 3DS. He might be different there.

@crazy7m Really? Because the Biggoron sword made absolute mince meat of him when I used it. He couldn't even block it and I didn't take damage once. The secret with the Biggoron sword strategy is you can't z-target him. When you use strategy he uses strategy, he is a clone after all. Just keep spamming the b button to do horizontal slashes. You would think that he would easily escape the attacks but as I said before, he's a clone. If you z-target him he moves like he is z-targeting you, get it?

@crazy7m Actually, the Megaton Hammer CAN work. He can block it with his shield, or dodge it with a back-flip, but it's a LOT harder for him to block than with the Master Sword. This is because, if you swing the sword, he swings too, so odds are, you'll just clash swords. But if you swing the hammer, he can only hope to block or dodge it, which doesn't guarantee as much success.
Though it helps to note not to Z-target him while using the hammer, for even better success-rate.

@crazy7m You messed up. I used the Megaton Hammer and didn't take a single hit. You are supposed to clash swords with him (DO NOT target him) and then immediately hit him with the Megaton Hammer. Every time he comes back at you just hit him with the hammer again (don't parry him again unless you screw up). Even if he is behind you. It should work.

@crazy7m the megaton hammer works if u dont z-target him. another strategy i've heard of is u go into a corner and charge up a spin attack. release the spin attack when he gets close

@crazy7m The best way to do it without any magic power or Din's Fire, (or a hookshot), is to encounter each others' attack and then hit him with the Megaton Hammer. The next time he appears, all you have to do is to keep hitting him with the Hammer he won't defend himself this time. keep doing it until he dies. I did it without losing any damage.
And I don't normally do this but... thumbs up so people can see.

I would probably completely hate the water temple if it wasn't for dark link. I remember back when i was like 6 completely hating and loving to fight him. I never was able to actually beat him and after like 5 failed tries, I had my cousin do it for me. Now its been about 12 years since I last played OoT and i'm ready for a rematch. I'm coming for you Dark Link and i'm giving it all i've got.

oh yeah, when u get around to it, don't use the master sword like this person did. it's a waste of time to try to chip at his body, which only happens like every 10 slashes. for ur first time defeating him, u should use the megaton hammer or biggoron sword. he can't imitate that. and if u run toward him at the right moment, u could get a whack at him.
