This is an awfully crisp, almost martial performance. It's very clean but is almost devoid of any rubato or expressiveness. The cellist tries (and is excellent), but the general atmosphere is precise and unyielding. This was a famous group and Mr. Schnabel a great intellect. (does anyone notice that he rushes?) This performance left me cold and bewildered.

@ipmoic Try Sviatoslav Richter and members of The Borodin Quartet doing this in the late 1950s.
This is still quite good, especially Schnabel; it has fine color though it is rather unyielding and somewhat unwieldy.
