The Battle for the Gowanus Canal - Superfund Cleanup vs. the City Plan

I used to live at the Bridge on the Gowanus - I watched a terrified dog who seemed to have been dumped on the lower wharf area - die as he attempted to swim across the canal - he went under and that was the end -I see this is 2009 - I left in 1989 - what is the status now in 2011?

@krisannesh20 It's been designated as a superfund, and will receive funding from the feds, but thats it. No work has gone underway yet?

The Gowanus water tested was PH6 - that is acidic. Many biological processes, such as reproduction, cannot function in acidic waters. Gowanus is not conducive to life.
