My god this guy was full shit and the adventures were all staged but it made good television I remember someone from channel 9 exposed him I remember in one ep he started a tractor that was not started for 29yrs and the tractor started first go what bullshit
Hi Alby, did you really find that bullsdozer in the aussie outback i think on the simpson trip?i saw in the 70's loved those shows as a kid.Now i live the dream.
What folks say may be true or partly true or tweaked by time ... any of it does not take away from the 'art' he produced. His adventures, his friends, his family, & his dogs, were loved all over the world.
I still grieve for Sam. It was the story he told that mattered & reached people's hearts. It was videos he produced. His private life, his business, no different that any one.
Abby will go down in history an original, in the first person documentary adventure category & already a legend.
I rember going to the cinema to watch him in the amazon when I was young, Turns out the wanker filmed the whole thing in the Blue Mountains here in Aus...
Yes, he is alive and well. Go to Alby Mangels . com and see for yourself. New pictures, and the latest information. Let the Travel Channel know how much you miss Alby. He may be older, but he still has so much to offer, especially regarding our planet and how to take care of her. His spirit of adventure is of course still legendary.
I still remember when World Safari came to Monbulk. I was 5 at the time and in 1981 Monbulk (extreme outer suburbs of Melbourne) was a little town of a few hundred people, a dozen shops and a dirt main street.
World safari was shown in the Hall (maybe the only movie ever shown there) and it was the biggest thing *ever*, a real phenomenon. Don't know if Alby was there personally but it always stayed with me that you really can succeed outside the system if you've got the balls and the vision.
I remember when I met Alby in Sydney. I was a rather innocent 17 year old (he was in his 30's). Despite his reputation with women I found him to be a real gentleman. He did not try and take advantage of the situation and was content to be just friends. Cheers Alby and hope you are doing ok.
I remember working for a removal company in Sydney around 1989. We cleared out his studio and dumped miles of his original footage at the transfer station. Wish I'd kept some!
Yes he is A LEGEND! I watched his films in TV in Poland when I was a kid... And his lifestyle helped me to make decision about travelling. It helped me to make decisions about my own life. Best regards, Alby!
Someone told me todat, that I looked like him. I'll be honest, I'm from Texas and have never heard of him... But, I must say: Yes I think he is right! I need to learn more about Alby Mangles... and it's not just the looks, but his personallity... Wow! I so glad you posted this. Great Video!!!
I was looking for more of Alby a few years back and I just googled his name and voila. It is so great to seem him again. My father of 93 calls Samantha Brown his girlfriend and goes travelling with her on tv. Alby is my hero and I watched everything he has done.
... and when the show was over, I promised myself, again, to live my life 'in the moment' and fully enjoy the ride ... the destination/the end of the trail, for all of us, a given.
Alby Mangels ... a legend in his own time ... wow! Geesh, it is great to see him again.
Thank you so much for posting this for his devoted fans.
Alby seems like a pretty cool guy. Cable used to run his show seven or eight years ago. I always wondered what happened to him. Hope he is doing well.
