  • I refer to SDRE style to be compared to dream pop. Long live Robin Guthrie

  • реальная тема

  • This is really a good quality for 240p video..

  • прикольная тема только начал слушать,,!!!

  • Yes

  • am i the only one that thinks this sounds like a completely different band from diary??

  • stupid bitches, this is not emo.

  • @xavierheadbang alternative rock derived from grunge...

  • (: I'm in love! Finaly!

  • The reason this band is so underappreciated is that they've become THE archetypal emo band (along with dashboard confessionals). The real tragedy is that they'll never get the attention they deserve because of this attachment to a genre that doesn't exist; ask six different people what emo is and you'll get six completely different answers. It's arbitrary bullshit and hate that they lose fans because it.I've never recommended them as an "emo" band, just a fucking great one.

  • So much talent, and so underrated :(

  • love the look the singer makes at 00:56

  • I thank FF's documentary for bringing me here :)

  • I cant ever get enough of these guys.I had read Dairy of a drug fiend and got this CD ..I had a dream of running through Europe getting high using magic and this cd was playing all through it.

  • Good to see SDRE still have lots of fans. I really thought for a while that I was the only one left. The vibe of this song is absolutely amazing.

  • everyone, who claims that he/she is EMO...should listen this music...THIS IS EMOO

  • I love that guitar part in the beginning, a very memorable intro, I couldn't stop playing it myself when I started learning several years ago XD Who cares whether it's emo or whether their theme was different later. Listen to the sound people.

  • es un grupo genial, lo adoré a partir de esta canción

  • @tcbansai you're so right, I've always been told this was one of the emo breakthrough songs, but its strong guitar and slight whine in his Boise makes it a classic example of grunge :)

  • Sunny Day Real Estate is grunge, pure Seattle grunge.

Don't retrospectively reclassify it as "emo", then criticise it for being emo, that's stupid.

  • @tceBansai It is Emotive. Why do people get insulted by that? SDRE is proud of being the cornerstone of Emo. You should respect that genre for being the most missunderstood style in the world.

  • THERE'S NO POINT TO TALK ABOUT EMO STUFF... COME ON IS SUNNY DAY REAL STATE WHICH IS REAL MUSIC!!, NO THAT SO CALLED EMO.. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?

  • Nate is missing

  • its called grunge, people

  • Comment removed

  • Music is somehow good, but his voice does not really helping there, never the that's what i think which is very individual though

  • @cagebound Amo su voz *O* le da un toque único para mi

  • Anyone who doesn't like this band and this song is probably a pedo.

  • @modtang thanks. i appreciate that. i dont think ther thta great and...GASP!....im not a pedo!? nooo...impossible...be a little bit moere understanding...i dont have the same concept of great music as u do...

  • it's beautiful music...leave it at that

  • Love love love

  • emo, stands for "emotional music", sunn day where the pioneers of the emo genre due to their deep lyrics. however although emo music was pretty good in the 90's the bands today have taken it way to far and is the most hated genre around

  • @nick0is0ace "Emo" is the stupidest genre name ever. I was around before emo. I listened to music from before emo. There's a LOT of music that's very emotional that's not "emo." Defining a genre by being emotional is stupid, as it implies prog isn't emotional, or punk isn't emotional, or classical, or jazz, or anything else.

Just dumb. Why not call it rock?

  • @yesspaz Agreed. I'd go so far as to say that music which engendered no emotional or physiological response at all would probably be a waste of time.

If it existed. Which it doesn't.

  • seriously lets just abolish the word "emo" .. it doesn't mean fuck all and it just pisses people off when they hear it including myself... this is just plain awesome music!!!!!!

  • labeling music is pointless why can't people just enjoy it for what it is without having to slap a fucking label on it..

  • @buickcityfilms2010 kind of like labeling sexuality its too complex to try to simplify it by one word

  • @snwman91 exactly!! well put.

  • I come from the old school when emo was emo and goth was goth, how the two got mixed up is beyond me, i am embaressed now by "emo" SDRE, was my fave during my early 20's, they were truely amazing!!!

  • @slomoNnewfer they "were" truly amazing? "Were"... really?... personally id say they they still are but uno...

  • もう10年以上経つのか。あっという間だ。

(Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of muraya_mar at twitter)

  • I dont get it, what makes this emo? I keep reading about them being emo but what is emo about them?!

  • this isnt emo..just so you all know

  • Emo started with Ian Mckaye. look it up here on youtube. what is considered "emo" today is NOTHING what the orignal was at all. Emo today is a joke. Anyone who compares the two is ignorant.

  • Dude this band kicks ass a good friend of myn let me listen to them I'm like holy shit this is heavy. Wish we knew about them before they broke up. Heard they are doing a new cd and tour.

  • Lol emo debate is fun. I like orginal emo, tho i wear skinny jeans. No so called "swoop hair" though.

  • I think this is my favorite song by them :)

    This band is fucking amazing

What I'd do to go to a show

  • emo today = swoop hair and skinny jeans

emo then = melodic punk with deep, heartfelt lyrics

  • @facefacts911

you're making it a bit simple, don't you think? not everything today is bullshit, even some newer emo bands are great, you just don't find them on the radio or tv anymore.

  • @facefacts911 What does the modern emo's clohing have to do with anything? The deep lyrics and the melodies are what make Emo, and most of the modern Emo keeps that culture going. Your stereotypes are false. And most emo artists DON'T use swoop hair OR skinny jeans.

  • @MrMcGale Yes but a lot of kids that call themselves emo do swoop hair and wear skinny jeans today. And I know some "emo" kids who dress like that and don't even listen to music. They call themselves emo because they make tiny little cuts on their arm and complain about how badly they need to feel pain.

  • @crazypersonface I have swoop hair with red stripes. I wear eyeliner. Yet no skinny jeans... And are we supposed to judge people by clothing? No, they can listen what they want. And did you know that most emos don't cut their arms. Depressed people do.

  • @MrMcGale Yeah I know that. I put emo in quotes because thats what they call themselves. They don't listen to me when I say that emo doesnt mean cutting your wrist, tight jeans, and swoop hair. I'm not saying I have anything against that, but thats not emo. Also I meant to put they dont listen to emo music.

  • @crazypersonface Say them that I, a veteran/pro-emo have said them to listen to Emotive or fuck off. ANd tell them that 700 people die each year of an accidental wrist-cut that was too big. And tell them that they are "Scene" if they're not really emo. "Emo Scene" is an attention whore.

  • @MrMcGale Yeah I guess they're emo scene then. But I know they don't have depression and are only cutting for attention because they show me all the time expecting to get attention. Also, some of them don't even cut themselves. They scratch themselves on the wrist then show everyone right after they do it. I also didn't mean to start a fight, sorry about that, I have nothing against emo at all.

  • @crazypersonface Totally, that's just scene. And no problem :D I

  • @MrMcGale Exacto !!

  • @facefacts911 wich is better now or the old days as in culture wise

  • @facefacts911 Don't forget eye liner. Emos today wear eyeliner -.- ...

  • @facefacts911 There was def a "look" back then too, just watch old footage of SDRE, american football, get up kids, etc etc. They're literally dressed the same, same head bob, and arms crossed through the entire sets.

  • i don't see how this is emo at all... people who like 'emo' never heard of SDRE and people who love SDRE during their hayday hate 'emo'. i blame critics and wikipedia on this association. sunny day was part of the alternative/grunge revolution and are closer to bands like early filter meets early radiohead, except they were all their own and were totally awesome. do you see eyeliner, feathered hair, and tight jeans? nope, these guys rocked.

  • i really hope the posers at my school dont find these guys........

  • @UARAF16

Don't worry. They'll find them 20 years later.....!

  • sUNNY dAY rEAL sTATE IS sKATE rOCK

  • 12 people have been Killed by an angle :P

  • Who gives a shite if a band fits a genre or not. Fact is it is just good tuneage.....

  • Who gives two shits? i don't give one. good music is good music. emo or not.

  • I just had to comment, great job on what you are doing! I like your video! to your success!

  • Don't label bands to make it comfortable for yourself. Enjoy them as their own style instead.

  • They like changing key for the chorus don't they?

Cool band... Just heard about them from a mewithoutYou interview

  • These guys are great! By far one of my favorite bands

  • labels and groups are clcihe and meaningless.

  • older music like this is always better then any of that stupid emo screamo shit

get high and chill with this screamo faget shit get high and makes me beat the shit outa people

  • Wow, never heard this group, even though it looks like they've been around for at least 3 years, There are so many bands these days. they've got a great sound- tight, powerful, quite a wall of sound they put up, strong drumming, fab guitar sounds. I have no idea what the lyrics are, but that's usual. you can dance to it. thanx for sharing.

  • @rhythmantic They're from the 90's, my ex husband came to know of them from snowboarding video's but they never really became 'mainstream'. They really were an amazing band, I have all their songs downloaded. I believe the singer became a bible thumper and left the band. Some of the songs had the drummer singing, I think he was originally the main singer but people liked the guy with the higher voice.

  • real emo- someone who doesnt care which music is "emo" and which isnt. does what they like. doesnt go around saying "im emo" doesnt research how to be emo on the internet. doesnt copy other emos or do something just because thats what emos are supposed to act like

  • Comment removed

  • This is called Indie rock.for thos people that dont know! They started in the late80's.

  • Selling one of my Thief, Steal me a Peach 7" records on ebay. Item number 300483224207

  • all this so-called emo talk is pointless...I'll take that back....all this genre debate is pointless...and all I know is that this is great music

  • @beechBD good point. it's a shame all those 'fans' need to have their identity (read:genre) so bad, they forget that the real beauty of our generation's music, is excactly the fact that it doesn't cling to stereotypes about genres so much. While other generations had the fortune of starting entire new musical genres, we get to experiment by mixing and rearanging all they thought us.

  • how the fuck are these guy's not huge?!?! they're like the biggest influence on paramore, and countless other band's, goes to show even the awesome don't make it as far as you'd like...

  • @06koroow maybe it's better that way. for some reason i think if SDRE went big they'd crash and fall under after awhile. i know they are not around no more but they went quietly and left us with great music instead of mainstream drama.

  • Definitly my favorite SDRE song of all time..so fucking fantastic!

  • Love this song.

  • Did anybody notice the bro in the kraftwerk shirt? Props to him!

  • God damn, why the hell do people get on here and have to say, "Oh, this is so emo." Why do you have to put labels on everything, why can't you just listen to it and decide whether or not you like it, and just stop not liking things because they are "emo". This is some music at it's best.

  • if "emo" mean emotional, how could any true music not be emo?

  • @LemonInYourEye

Totally agree. "Emo" is the stupidist genre name of all time. I love SDRE, and when a friend told me they were emo (back in 2000), and that it meant emotional music, I told him that's redundant. One of the most emotional songs of all time is "And You and I" by Yes, a prog song, or "Piano Man" by Billy Joel, a rock song, or "Only a Dream" by Mary Chapin Carpenter, a folk song.

    "Emo" is a stupid title.

  • Fantastic!

  • shame... born a girl and man...

  • I love how Dan really gets into it, and jumps around, hell yeah, Dan the Man!

  • this is no seven.

  • @bruthaflo no its better

  • emo kids ruin emo music

  • do you know how complex sdre's composition is? for the most part in manyof they're songs all the instruments play completely diferent things to make an overall interesting and progressive melody that we all love. like both gitars do completely different melodies and the bass holds both together. they're truly music geniuses,.... and drummer just is so fucking amazing!

  • SDRE sucks more dick than yer mom,

i almost fell asleep listenin to this discrase of a song,

i hope they die in there sleep for beleiving that they are even slightly good.

  • @wolfluver1995 why?

  • @wolfluver1995

    Discrase

  • @wolfluver1995 go listen to justin bieber or lady gaga or sth like that shithead!

  • SDRE sucks more dick than yer mom,

i almost fell asleep listenin to this discrase of a song,

i hope they die in there sleep for beleiving that they are even slightly good.

  • Man I was so little when these guys were just getting in their groove and what an impact they make... I think they're one of the most unique bands ever especially his voice it's honestly beautiful sooo much power too bad they brokeup and are kinda forgotten and lost in the pages of Rock n roll Like the youth today my generation is just dead in the image of yesterdays pieces it's an image to sell and everyones buying everythings becoming the same were sooo fucking dead...

  • @Maninthebox21 You'll be happy to learn they've gotten back together! You and I must be close in age.

Where's the music

  • sounds nice

  • I love this song...The vocals are just great..

I deeply enjoy when the full power of the guitar kicks in after the slow melodic parts.

And of course I love how deep the lyrics are...

The 90s was a time of great music.Wish that musical flow of ingenuity could've lasted until my generation(and longer than that too)...But,alas I can always listen to the great treasures of the past..

  • what year are these guys from ?

  • @DIELAWN123 This song I believe is from 2001, but the band started in the '90s.

  • Phenomenal video. SDRE is one of my all-time favorites and highly overlooked and underrated. Their music is no doubt standing the test of time, as they sound just as fresh and original now as they did almost twenty years ago.

  • @alphaguitar2 thanks a lot dude you're a real cool guy i can tell

  • no one will ever like this band

  • @iscarabaid77 are u a tard? this band has been around since '92 probably before you were born u little shit go enjoy your nickelback and shut the fuck up

  • This shit is real emo!!! (which died shortly after real punk)

  • I love this record. Very powerful stuff.

  • ♪Crooked deals can make you wealthy

Serum vials to help you when you're sad

Every other face is bent and broken

Wrap your teeth around the only game in town♫

Is music "emo" if it really reflects one of our problems in society, in which I mean, seriously scarring reality?

  • @venusfly9108 Enigk found Jesus, so most of his lyrics are Biblical.

  • @DarthKazi I know, but whether or not they are biblical, they seem almost true. This came to mind because I've read some essays once in highschool about drugs and substance abuse, and a lot of these lyrics seem related in some ways to I've read. The lyric ♫Crooked deals can make you wealthy♫ itself just reminds me of it.

  • One of my favorite music albums

  • LONDON- 22nd April. HELL YES.

  • C O A C H E L L A :)

    who's going?

  • @ilovemattbabe Enjoy SDRE and Pavement for me.

  • your're not going?

  • @ilovemattbabe I'm broke and live in Colorado. Unless you're feeling generous :) no.

  • F-ing Awesome.

  • The drummer is angry on the video xD

  • I would say that this is a good song, except for the fact that everything in the world is terrible.

  • You sound sooo ooo ooo deep man, there's alot to smile about. :)

  • @ilovesonnets91

What are you going to do to change your world then??

  • Really good. ! :D

  • @NathanAndJohnny

phoney emo? Simple Plan and Boys Like Girls are pop-rock you retarded git, these kids are emo, and with them died most mainstream attention with the genre,

You have your head to far up your ass its almost returned to its starting position

Simple Plan and Boys Like Girls are 00's bands, Sunny Day Real Estate is 90's, it's not possible for them to knock them off, your shit is so backwards its unbelievable

  • you speak the truth!

  • @OriginalityImpaired JESUS FUCKING CHRIST KIDS LEAVE THE EMO TERM ALONE TO ROT AND DIE PUSSIES.

  • @OriginalityImpaired I cant stop loling; this comment is epic.

  • @OriginalityImpaired

jimmy eat world garnered much more mainstream attention than SDRE. but simple plan and blg kinda suck in comparison to 90's emo

  • @OriginalityImpaired nathan and johnny has mental issues if for i he thinks that they sound like either of those shitty bands and twoo if he thinks they knocked off their shitty style. sdr is way older and better

  • HAHAHAHA sorry. you are a DUMBASS.

  • @NathanAndJohnny hah i wish you were emo....go fuckin kill yourself retard. i don't have words to describe your lack of intelligence with regards to music. simple plan isn't music. its a paycheck and a quick easy way to get quick easy pussy.

  • @NathanAndJohnny dumbass. thats the only word that comes to mind. your a dumbass with no knowledge of music.

  • @NathanAndJohnny you are gay and a fag if you like those bands, they are for chicks who cut themselves and are not real emo. real emo is this, the 90's work of art that is sunny day real estate and bands like them

  • @NathanAndJohnny I wont be surprised if u were just another wanna-be-cool-emo douchebag ..

  • Rising Tide is an album I cane, day in day out, after all these years. One of my all time greats. Yey! they're back together. Oh... no UK dates, never saw them back in the day... fuck!

  • I can't believe I missed them. I thought I had a bit more time...ugh.

  • They didn't play anything off the Rising Tide when I saw them, so you wouldn't have missed this song. Mostly LP2 and Diary, with "Guitars and Video Games" thrown in.

  • Nothing off of How It Feels To Be Somthing On?

I'm bummed that I missed them, but I'm even more bummed that they wouldn't have played this or Pillars if I saw them.

  • Just "Guitar and Video Games", no Pillars and nothing from Rising Tide (which this song is from.)

  • kickass:)

  • Tempe, AZ 10/9. Happy 40th too me!!!!! Can't wait.

  • his voice is really kewl

  • seeing them on wed. can't wait!!!

  • wow! i saw "seeing them on weed" lmao.

  • I've got my Atlanta tickets tight fisted, just ordered the 2 remastered discs...can't wait for the show

  • When I heard about the reunion tour middle of August, my two nearest venues were sold out. In telling people about this fact, they'd say "Who?"

Exactly... so why are they sold out? Because they are that good.

  • Yeah, they're playing in LA in October but none of my friends know who they are, so I'm playing them whenever I get the chance.

  • and that guy is cute too.

  • Good.

  • Sweet track. They remind me of Biffy Clyro.

  • God I can't wait to see them

  • sunny day real estate was one of Three Days Grace 's influences. i decided to check them out since i love 3dg. i like, i like!

  • rofl, really??

i woulda never guessed that such a trashy pop rock cash in band would seriously even have listened to SDRE... ever.

    weird.

  • Paramore does too : )

  • @alphaguitar2 i don't know who you're talking about, or you're opinion on this person, but I know Hayley Williams listens to these people, and she's like my idol. even though i'm a dude. y'know what i mean :P

  • @ElricoKing i was talking about three days grace, someone said that sunny day was a huge influence to them, and that band exploits alt rock for money and so i really can't see the influence at all

i could see VAGUELY how paramore would have been influenced by SDRE but i think they've perverted their own music and cheated themselves out of self expressive art by selling out

thankfully there are bands like SDRE that can remain a strong influence to everyone and never give in to that temptation

  • @alphaguitar2 what do you mean by selling out? and why couldn't paramore or three days grace have listened to SDRE?

  • @keoblue12 the fact that I need to answer that question for you kind of makes it pointless for me to even bother and try to explain this to you.

  • @alphaguitar2 Not that I could even name a Three Days Grace song, but wasn't there first album a major label release? How can you sell out when you are automatically mainstream. And as for Paramore...I don't know about venues nationwide, but here in Boston SCRE plays the same sized venues as Paramore. I wouldn't consider Paramore to be a sell out band at all. Successful yes, naturally progressing through a deserved success, yes.

  • @Rickynukem1

    SDRE*

  • Okay, Okay, I just watched this video for the 300th time and I'll drive up to Boston to take part in this historical moment (in my eyes).

If anybody sees a tall dude in his mid 40s wearing an old SDRE t-shirt, it'll be me. Feel free to come and say "hi".

    Grinderman

  • Wow, thanks everybody for the comments. I love the fact that I'm not the only SDRE fan left on the planet. I read an article from Jeremy explaining the emphasis of the concert will be on the first two albums. I'm now hesitating driving up as my dream concert would involve the material from How It Feels to Be Something On and The Rising Tide (2 classic albums in my eyes).

How do you all feel about the set list for the concert?

Keeping the feeling alive is something wonderful.

    Grinderman

  • didn't their guitarist play in Scars On Broadway as a bassist for about 1 year back?

  • ...Scars On Broadway was a side project by the guitarist of System of A Down I thought it was like a solo thing?

  • well.. at first it was Daron's and John's side project, but shen SOAD ended, it was their main project.. but it's over again..

well the guitarist in SDRA looks kinda like their bassist Dominic.. and when SDRE didn't play, he could be in SoB.. but.. i guess it is not really him.. now, when i am sober i say i was mistaken 4 days before

  • definitely my top - 2009 tour or bust
