The only thing I disagree with about this guy that I find inaccurate is that he said, Reporters went across the country and asked,
NO, the "reporters" went to TEXAS and asked.
He did not go around the country.
If I were to go to the dumbest part of the WORLD where they believe only in God, Guns, Country and Oil you are going to get some ..well , colorful answers.
@nickoby12147 Then YOU are wrong. They did not go across United States, They stayed in one tiny part of the US, TEXAS! for God's sake in the Bush Era which makes it eight-times as bad. Dont get me wrong, the US needs to drop its racist customs and power up Its education both as children and as adults. (I often wonder why we press so much on educating our children but not put any attention to adult education because the mind still grows if you feed it). NOT MAD. Your facts are inaccurate.
The reason for the ignorance problem in America is because of "pop-culture" and the media. If such things didn't exist, days would be like the 40's & 50's when there were actual family morals. Now-a-days, people get pregnant at a young age, drop out of high school, watch pointless reality shows, and continue to demoralize this country. I'm American, and I'm not proud on our people's behaviors...but what can you do about it, with a country so large. Of course, this is not true of all people. :)
I'm wondering if ignorance of Americans is the real source of your frustration. Also, there may be a reason many Americans aren't too familiar with the United "Kingdom." I've found that, generally, Brits have a more developed sense of humor than Americans - like the guy in one of my videos. Oh, wait, he's from South Africa. But isn't that part of the United "Kingdom?' I get so confused.
I agree that ignorance is certainly a rant-worthy topic. I wont harp on your flawed, albeit hilarious, source of information as it looks like other posters have already covered that ground. As accuracy is particularly important in a rant against ignorance, I did want to point out something I noticed:
Fidel Castro is no longer the president of Cuba (hasn't been since early 2008) nor was he the 23rd president; he was the 22nd president. Raul Castro, the current president, is the 23rd president.
@nickoby12147 ok. I apologize if I misheard that particular part. As for my 22nd/23rd comment- I intended no malice towards you in making it. It was just the kind of thing I, (as someone who, like you, finds such ignorance to be ridiculous) would want someone to point out to me--that's all:-)
Ugoslavia? HAHAHA. The Australian report shows that people that stupid do exist in the US. Go to pretty much any country in Europe and you would be trying ALL DAY to find people as dumb as that and almost certainly not find any. Otherwise, where is the French version showing the French to be that dumb? Or Spanish? Italian? English? German? Oh thats right there is no such videos because that level of extreme ignorance IS only found in the US. Only someone from the US could deny it, the irony.
Unfortunately, for Americans, most who I have come across when travelling, have always behaved in an ignorant & arrogant manner, beliving everyone should follow the "American way of life & culture". Any country name ending with 'stan' is automatically an ememy.
Why are you going by that stupid Aussie video?? I hate that video for the simple fact that it ONLY shows the stupid people. Didn't you even notice that they didn't have a single person who answered correctly? No doubt that's from editing because you can't tell me that out of 300 million people those morons were the only people they talked to. Ugh! What bothers me more than ignorant people are people who believe whatever someone tells them.
@nickoby12147 Well I can't speak to angry Americans, as I am only annoyed. But if you had to deal with things like this on a daily basis (beings stereotyped and treated rudely based on your country of origin) you would probably be annoyed too, maybe even angry. It's only amusing when it's on Youtube. Not IRL.
The 1995 TIMSS survey is the only TIMSS I can find right now that directly compares Canadian and American students. (The 2003 TIMSS doesn't seem to have surveryed Canada as a whole, instead surveying the provinces of Quebec and Ontario by themselves.)
Anyway, the 95 TIMSS of 8th graders shows that Canadians got a better average score in math than did Americans, but Americans got a better average score than Canadians in science.
In the 2003 TIMSS survey, USA's 4th graders ranked 12th place in math and 6th place in science out of 25 nations. And USA's 8th graders ranked 15th place in math and 9th place in science out of 45 nations.
In the 2003 PISA survey, USA's 10th graders ranked 28th place in math and 22nd place in science out of 39 nations.
The most reliable data we're going to get on nations' collective intelligence are those international test score rankings of students. One is called the TIMMS survey and the other is called the OCED (a.k.a. the PISA). The methodologies differ slightly (TIMMSS tests 4th and 8th graders while PISA tests 10th graders), but both test on math and science.
Depending on the test, grade and subject, USA ranks anywhere from 6th place out of 29 to 28th place out of 39.
I know the Australian TV show video you're talking about, and I hope you're not drawing a real conclusion from it. I get the TV show is meant to be funny, but it doesn't prove that most Americans are ignorant because the video is just a bunch of man-on-the-street interviews.
Such interviews are anecdotal evidence, and anecdotal evidence can't be used to prove a point.
yea ok coming from the kid who just lit up a blunt, who the hell did u ask a bunch of hill billies, yes some americans are retarded but these kind of ppl r everywhere dumbass
@crazyfatboy69 u know another thing about us americans, we love to joke around. nobody accually thinks canada is south. i promise you they were kidding. maybe work on your sence of humor a little bit ya?
Well done. I have seen the video you are talking about, but it was good of you to use this as a speech. If I hadn't seen the video I would consider this an informative speech.
Overall, I would have to say that this is very good video. It is humorous and in some areas, imformative.
Just an advice: If you emphasized or stated that "some americans could be so ignorant" (which I believe you meant to say) instead of making it sound like "americans are ignorant", this would save you from a lot of conflict. It is good to argue here and there but its never good to be too harsh or insultive. But again, overall, good video!
the popularity of this video speaks to a well-chosen topic and solid performance, nick. that said, this ridiculous back and forth you are having with another member of the class will cost you (both) marks. the simple reason being that such useless squabbling doesn't add anything to your argument. it is pretty petty to be honest. argh. - mr.d

lol I didn't notice James pointing at me the last time I viewed this video.
Anyways I do agree that Americans could be ignorant at times when it comes to foreign policies and the climate crisis (I had an interesting american comment on my video about the climate crisis). However, not all americans are necesarily ignorant and the survey that was taken only demonstrated americans with the bad answers.
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race 2 : racial prejudice or discrimination
This is borderline. I gotta say, it was really funny. But we have to remember, there are stupid people everywhere, not just in the United States of America. If we ask enough people the same question, eventually we will get a funny answer.
Okay I don't have evidence. I am German, but I spent a year in America and I thought everyone was great and there was not an outstanding number of unintelligent people anywhere.
But you win, your country is full of stupid fat people because of this video. Happy? I don't know why you want to criticize your own country, but go ahead.
Nice rant, but what I like the best is the camera work. The zooming in and out adds effect, Also, when it turns to Laurent and James is pointing at him and to quote directly says: "Noooooooo". Another classic Laurent burn said by Nick. A bit out of context, but good rant.
