The Wellington Carillon at the National War Memorial is the only instrument of its kind in New Zealand. It has 74 bells weighing over 70 tons and the largest, "Rangimarie" ("Peace") weighing over 12 tons is the largest bell ever cast in the Netherlands. The next 3 largest were also cast on Dutch soil. All the others were cast in England. The carillon is the 3rd heaviest of the World's 650 instruments.
It is an early keyboard instrument. Around about 200 years before the first piano. You play it with your fists and feet , they keys are attached to wires that chime the bells of towers
