It's weird, I'm also arachnophobic and but Phantom doesn't scare me at all. I admit, I was startled by his appearance when watching the DMC 1 trailer many years ago. But that's about it.

The bosses were terrible, the gameplay is shallow and without charm...and those horrible menus made me cringe everytime I had to pause to select any items.

This was trully and unispired sequel imo.

it was good in comparison to the rest of dmc2's bosses, because as far as dmc 1 and 3 goes, he was very forgettable.

Bolverk was a pretty cool boss, too bad they didn't give him much of a personality though like most of the other bosses.

Plutonian and Furiataurus were my favourite bosses.

Bolverk would've been a good fight if not for those fucking damn wolves. And I really despised Trismagia, he gave me hell.

and the gameplay was alright. but the 1st dmc was way too easy.
