Yeah, how backward of Christian Europeans not to REGULATE wife beating (actually, they did). The point, fellas, is that without active participation of women in religious practice & discourse, fallible, arrogant men tend to confuse their own egos with that of their god's will. Very convenient for these frightened misogynists—not so good for Muslim society— to quell and silence through fear & custom over 50% of the intelligence & brain power of their civilization. You must stop and think, for the time this was very "modern" (of course "modern" has to do with what just happened to be "modern" for the culture of the observer). Islam is the only religion that actually puts a lot of regulations in this sort of beating, and compare it to Christianity: no regulations. "No wife-beating in the 1st world" never was related to Christianity, and any religious connections ppl try to make were retroexplanations made afterwards.
