  • i love the tenors at 1:48. really powerful.

  • wat is wrong with those people who dont like this?

  • @GabiBolin absolutely nothing

  • Now I understand the logic behind the castrati. What a beautiful choir of young boys!

  • @Xedome - your comment to mommawalt is totally wrong! The larynx of a 12 year old boy is already larger than that of an adult woman. There is more space for tone, but the lungs have not grown large enough to hold as much breath as a woman, therefore, the quality of tone of a 12 year old boy is unique. The Tölzers have the very best training to enhance that tone to its maximum. Lucky boys who have this experience! And to uptilthesky, boy's voices don't break, they just grow like the rest of him!

  • Wahnsinn.

    Einsame Spitze! :-)

  • suddenly the choire in witch im singing sounds pretty lame! ¤_¤ o.O

  • Lord have mercy

  • boys just have the most celestial voice :) then one day, vocal chord breaks, it's gone

  • Heavenly those angel's voices

  • wow!!...I'm hearing this for the 1st time and..the way the kids hold their high notes with their treble voices in the Gloria...which floats over everything else..just maked my hair stand on end...absolutely superb!

  • just amazing

  • QUE PAZ...

  • what KV is this missa ?

  • KV 427

  • @Mrjansen Thank You

  • Excellent job

  • Hm . This is the very end of it, the most beautiful part is just before. Check out the version where Gardiner is conducting. What's the name of that english choir again..

  • Camera guy captures them well.

  • these kids are amazing..

  • wow

  • Ιnfo : kyrie eleison means god (sir) give us your mercy in greek

  • A friend from Munich sent some recordings of

a current concert of the Toelzer to me.

As fast as possible I shall post some clips at

    YouTube.

  • i dont notice anything wrong with the recording its just typycal youtube standard its prob ur own speakers

    on your pc

  • i seem to be the only one who doesn't think this is a very good recording. Much of the time I can hardly hear the boys for the noise the orchestra is making. They could be singing very well for all I can tell but i would like to hear more of them and less of the orchestra. For example the recording of them singing with Harnoncourt, St. John Passion

  • Clam0391 If you do not like the the sound recording..you can start by sending a cash contrIbution to the TOLZER

  • I don't think that would have much effect! The best thing for them is to give honest opinions and not just indiscriminate praise, then they will be able to know what they sound like to an audience. They are a fine choir and deserve good audio recording techniques, which in this particular case they are not getting, but which in some of their recordings they do get.

  • I LOVE !!!!

    Who is the director ??

  • Good version...where's the rest? PS @1:48 the kid at bottom left's facials are priceless.

  • Magnificent !!

  • what kind of music is this

  • This is classic music. From around 1780:s and its written by the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The master of wienerclassismen. This is a mass for the church. So now you now :)

  • xD LOL

  • I like the directing. heh

  • Incredible...

  • my chorus class is singing it i love it!!

  • and omj they guys that went high is sooo good

  • their just kids!

  • iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiihhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • but it won't sound the same. besides, castrati were out of fashion centuries ago.

  • Only a century ago, Moreschi died at the beginning of the 20th century, the last officially documented singing castrato. He worked at the vatican. This mass had female singers, the evidence is that wolfgang offered it to constanza as her wedding gift and the openning christe solo was originally one of her vocal warm-ups he wrote for her. The choir was definitely all male as it was premiered in Salzburg under Colloredo who was a stickler for tradition. But it's still a kick-ass piece of music. :D

  • however there are people who sing "fake" castati. that requires special skill however, but not a natual high voice.

  • It's pretty hard to fake having your balls lopped off before your voice breaks, don't you think? They're called falsettists, singing in the head voice. Some people call them counter tenors but that's just a poor interpretation of the "haute-contre" voice, which doesn't use the head voice....and there's nothing special about sounding like Mickey Mouse. Still, it's a good mass. Cheers!

  • well mickey mouxe is a little harsh. i have heard a few good counter tenors.

  • i meant that in the sense that anyone can slip into their head voice which is what Mickey Mouse's voice really is. There are some great counter tenors. Huge fan Jarousky myself.

  • I have heard a good version of Mozart's Requiem with counter tenors singing the choir alto. Gardiner has a few in his alto. It has a lot of power if done correctly, and it doesn't sound like Mickey Mouse.

  • as i said, there are some good falsetists out there and they don't all sound like mickey mouse, but doing it in a recording doesn't make anything set in stone or official, it's just one way. This is another, and prolly a lot more accurate. i'm not knocking falsetists i'm just saying when you have young boy altos and sopranos singing music written for boy altos and sopranos it's kinda nice to use the real deal. either way, purtty music. :D

  • wow nice i love it

  • wow this is crazy. i love it

  • Does anybody know the KV # for this mass?

  • I think...

    KV 427(417a) Grosse Messe C-MOLL

  • thanks...i guess i didn't know that the video starts at measure 71 of the Kyrie.

    I love mozart...he's my favorite.

    thanks again wem3

  • @moms12 KV 427

  • Does anybody know the KV # for this mass?

  • This is awesome!!!!! Loved it!

  • There is a special quality of the unchanged male voice that has a purity than doesn't compare to young female voices OR mature female voices. In special acoutics, the boy voice has a harmonic other female voices do not have. And yes, much music of the era was sung by males, hence to this day endures the boychoir. Believe me, having known some of these boys, and my own son having been one, it is a sort of pathos when those voices change, never to return. But it is all good! More boys come along!

  • "There is a special quality of the unchanged male voice that has a purity than doesn't compare to young female voices OR mature female voices. In special acoutics, the boy voice has a harmonic other female voices do not have."

That's NONSENSE!!! I think exactly the opposite. And I absolutely don't agree with the choice of not teaching also to female voices. It's anacronistic..

  • of cource. but not in a boys choire. though female voices are not worse, they are different.

  • @mommawalt

That is not actually right. In Sweden there are proof of (quite) the opposite as well. i am an example myself, spending 6 years in school for perfection, singing classical music. Boys and girls voices are very much the same at the age of .. say 10 - 13. Not only that - the female voice is slightly better when it comes to performing solo. I would state that it's a highly cultural matter - specific to Britain, unfortunately.

Live and let live!

  • @mommawalt ;

There are some possibilities to keep the voice like that, but we (fortunately) dont do such things anymore. ;)

  • We're singing a version of this in choir. A public school. :/

  • at 00:09, is the blonde with long hair a girl? :S

  • thats a boy *g*

  • oh, but he sure looks like a girl :P

  • yes youre right, but its the "tölzer boys choir" no girls allowed :)

  • The only girl ever in ths choir was the conducters doughter.

  • wow...the first 12 seconds it sounded as if everyone was singing the sorprano part..even the guys..wait are the boys singing female parts (SSA?) and the men are singing the tenor, baritone and bass parts?

  • Caneinthehouse - Men and boys choirs were the norm until relatively modern times. Much, if not most of the older choral music that we now hear sung by choirs with female soprano and alto sections was actually written for all male choirs. Handel's "Messiah" was originally sung by all male choirs, as were the works of Bach. Enter "Tolzer" into the search box to find other examples of all male choral singing. It has a sound which many feel is superior to male/female choirs.

  • Boytreble= soprano

    Boyalto= alt

  • In former times girls/women were not aloud to sing sacral music. The "mulier taceat in ecclesia"-canon (1. Kor. 14, 34) of the roman-catholic church banned women from doing official duties like serving as priest, diacon, altar "boy" oder chorister.

  • Wow...That was...wow..That was incredible!

  • Sehr schön :]

  • Very beautiful to listen to.

  • amazingggg

  • I like this song. You can hear this song (female voice) here: youtube com/watch?v=PEHJY0T9RsQ

  • WAM quotes the Handel Hallelujah Chorus in the repeated "in excelsises" ("Excelses"?) I think. He would have known it well as he arranged a version of the entire "Messiah".

  • excelsis

  • Not a typo. I was merely being clever. Apparently I didn't succeed!

  • Once they hit puberty their career is down the toilet unless, however, they keep a voice worth performing with.

  • Bachzart is correct.

  • Some of them get lucky though. Panito Iconomou, for instance, is a pretty successful baritone these days.

  • Panito was his nickname. You can google him under his adult name: Panajotis Iconomou, and he is more than a "pretty successful" bass-baritone with HUGE overtones in his voice.

  • zajebiste!!!

  • who has not what?

  • Seen the movie "amadaeous" Youtube is stupid, it's hard to find out who replieed to who.

  • Yeah, just the use the "reply" button, lol. But I've seen it. One of my favorite movies. When I was a kid, I always thought Mozart was some old dude until I saw that movie...

  • Amadeus...?

  • the movie.

  • In case you haven't found this out on your own yet, if you click page 2 (or any page with earlier comments) all the replies will be put with the comments they are answering.

  • I love the song Gloria in this.

  • Expecting boys to sing bass and tenor is like expecting violins to play in cello and double bass ranges.

  • the boys choir probly doesn't have enough of the deeper voices for these kind of songs to sing it by themselves, therefore, the adult choir helps them out from time to time. I've seen Amadeus...

  • is that robin scholtz at 1:53 or so? the blond?

  • Thanks for all your comments. > Yes, it´s him! =D. < And you can fin Alexander Lischke also in this video.

  • WOW! Thats all I can say really...

  • this is beautiful! Please, do you have the rest of this mass? what about laudamus te and the rest of the kyrie eleison? and credo? and the others? I checked and I founf cum sancto spirittu, but that's it. Please show us the rest of the mass!!!! and thanks for this part.

  • Mozart's seem to be inspired by God, so beautiful they are. They seduce us and glorify Him!

  • ever see the movie amadeaeus?

  • Who has not?

  • yeah that's why their called the Tölzer Knabenchor . Knaben means boys.

  • the video is from 2002. it is made at a concert in baden-baden (i think). direction had sylvien cambreling.

  • i was singing there too^^

  • nice .... how great of you to be there!

  • Who are you in the video???

  • Yes sure, 4th from left in front row - right?

I´ll always miss your fantastic voice, musical feeling and humble appearance.

  • Wow, these children have such mature, lovely voices! I especially loved Kyrie Eleison. It's such a serious song and the kids really pulled it off!

  • eleisooooon *_*

  • Now it was more than one week we could see some videos of Toelzer...I want more!!!!

  • oh my goodness. theyre young and amazing?! they have to have adults with them tho.

  • I just checked out their website. It's supposed to be a youth boys' choir! So...no grown ups. Only youths. Except for the orchestra and director.

  • The adults are not because of any lack of skill by the boys, but to provide a source of tenors and bases. Just listen to the soloists sometime. The boys knock your socks off, even with no adults.

  • Whis year is it from.I can see that both Alexander and Robin is there

  • I think (maybe) in 2002 or 2003.

  • Also the wonderful Philipp Mosch and on the alto side, Peter Mayr.
