Love this song i was 13 drunk as as pig at my sisters 18th birthday party in my mums garden summer 1973 (i think) kept singing this song on the floor no one new what the hell i was singing about, still love it now all these years later
I've been getting a bit of greif for my next comment but......does it annoy anyone else that 'The Faces' became 'Rod Stewart and the Faces'. No one knew who Rod was until he teamed up with Ron Wood and the ex 'Small Faces' It seems a little unfair that 3 members from one of the finest bands ever to come out of the UK were demoted to just being Rod's backing band. Especially when Lane wrote and sang lead vocal on many of the Faces best songs!
When reading the liner notes of the Faces box set, Ronnie was chosen to sing this song because the key of the song didn't fit Rod's preference. They were laughing their asses off when he was in the studio when he was trying to record it. True story.
Rock and Roll is the original rock, to say it isn't pure rock goes against history.
Although personally I do prefer later rock, not any band in the world can claim to be equal to The Beatles. Only individuals such as Dylan, Hendrix and Charles can claim to be equal to them.
beatles really weren't that good, sure they sound nice but it was just a few dudes settling with popping out piss easy hits - their lyrics were 90% of the time bullshit to encourage the female demographic to hit up their concerts
they were the original boyband, stones.. kinks.. all those other bands around then are better for not taking the easy way out and actually varying their music and making well rounded music
no they aren't masterpieces, at least 4 songs per album are below par.. but i shan't argue :) your naive outlook on music can remain with you, sweetcheeks - it's jazz time
yer man, kings of leon SHOULD do this, that would sound the fucking bees. i can kinda see calebs voice moulding round this... good fucking bands, the both of em!
..... but i do have to hand it to The Faces... i mean, fucking hell, rock n roll is only pure when it comes from england.
Dumb fuck. I like English rock but you're sorely mistaken. Shitty southern blues crap? You know where half of the Stones and LZ's songs came from? Shitty American southern blues. If not in name then surely in inspiration. Bunch of wanker white boys ripping off "shitty southern blues songs." There would never have been English rock without America. Period. And again, I am fond of English rock but you have to respect who laid the track.
And there would never have been the America with today without the english discovering it, so have some fuckin respect for your founding fathers you dick.
No need for swearing. If you need to resort to that then I'll take that you agree with my point then.
It's only music at the end of the day, no need to start being aggressive over a valid point. I'm English but I know that Rock and Roll started in America. It's a fact, not an opinion.
i saw with out a paddle maby time but didnt remember this song i just was surfin and clicked on someones profile saw a cover look at a few covers because i thot it was a good song then came to this the real thing, its brill
You don't have to be from the era to know the music. That's such a cop-out. Explore other eras of music. I was born in the 80s but I listen to music from the 40s to current.
I'm not looking to one-up you here and I know that the world will continue to spin, but just to be accurate. It IS Ron Wood who sings this version, it was Lane and Wood who wrote it. Not that its the end-all, be-all, but I'll cite my reference here from wikipedia, in addition to just listening to stewart's, lane's, and wood's voices.
Not Ronnie Lane but rather Ronnie Wood singing. Plonk and Stewarty were in a row over something, and were at an impasse when the producer recommended that Woody give it a roll, and voilà...here we have it.
Don't take offense to this but... that mask is quite possibly one of the scariest things I have seen in my entire life. I'm going to crawl into my room with my tail between my legs now, hoping that it doesn't sneak into my room and kill me.
when I hear this song when I`m depressed I pop that in or No Rain by Blind Melon and it makes me remember good memories from the nineties the good ol` days
Wow, great. I spent the whole morning trying to remember parts of the lyrics from this song so I could look it up! I wish that I knew what I know now... How could I forget!

Have you listened to The Beatles later albums?
Every single one of them are masterpieces.
They aren't the most successful band for nothing.
And wtf do you mean they took the easy way out, they were more experimental then any of the bands you mentioned.
There is no point in arguing, since it seems that you have only listened to the hits

Additionally...Both Stewart and Lane made recordings, but this from the Ohh La La LP was Woody.

One more thing...supposedly, the riff between Plonk and Stewarty was because Rod thought this number was beneath his standards.
Odd, then, that he'd do his version of it years later.
