The main purpose of clock escapements is to slow down the release of energy from a descending weight or a compressed spring. You could probably think up a mechanism of your own if you wanted.
Wow! I'll tell you Dad, that is a great way to illustrate your projects...far better than just a photo or diagram...You may try filming it against a slid white background, so you can see the parts better, but excellent work!
Very nice example. Does the speed of the mechanism change as the weight falls further from the drum, or is it completely dependent on the verge?
