I'm in the middle of taking an online sexual harassment class (as a recent hire, not as a punishment) and I just realized that the guy who narrates it is the same guy who did the narration for this documentary! Freaking awesome.
I want to know if there is an original unrevised version with the original Aylsworth Kleihauer's script? The version that we saw was the revised 1976 version with Ruth S. Zick's revised script.
Years ago, the Anatosaurus was known as the 'Trachodon'. Corythosaurus had a half-circular crest adorning its head. There was Lambeosaurus and Iguanodon.... Carnivores like Tyrannosaurus, Gorgosaurus, Allosaurus stalked the lands of the Mesozoic Era, with the latter of the three appearing in the Jurassic Period, while the first and second of this trio dominated the prehistoric realms of the Cretacious.
i used to have a tape similar to this one, but i just can't remember its name. i remember scenes with a t rex fighting with an ankylosaurus and then a triceratops, a small dinosaur raiding a triceratops nest, and a small, insect-eating mouse like creature in it. can anyone please tell me the name of that tape?
@dwiilaster It was called "Learning About Dinosaurs", I have the VHS. Sadly the 1st 4 minutes are not watchable but I have another copy where the middle is damaged.
@CaptainDinobot Thank you. I was wondering what the tape was named. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I do recall the VHS having a segment where Godzilla sings "Take me out to the ball game."
I had this on VHS back in the 80's when i was around 5 years old and somehow lost it in the late 90's. There was 4 parts to it. first part was "Dinosaurs The Terrible Lizards". the Second part i think was called "Fossil Mammals". The third part was a slide show of dinosaurs and the 4th part was a slide show of prehistoric mammals. Really wish i could find a full copy.
Actually, I just found out that that one's an adaptation of "Aquarium" from Camille Saint-Saëns' "Carnival of the Animals." You learn something new everyday, I guess.
5:57, the music is really close to the theme from Beauty and the Beast. Search "Beauty and the Beast Instrumental Music Prologue" and it should be the first to come up... It's kind of striking.
@gregrutz yes, that is right. brontosaurus was indeed a 'mistake'. they just placed the wrong skull on the end of another dino's body. now, they don't think dinos dragged their tails either.
@johnrunion Correct, science keeps discovering more every day. The now have over 20 different dinosaur fossils with feathers. Everything you think of as bird like, dinosaurs had: Feathers, hollow bones, three toes forward, warm blood, etc. , oval eggs in nests, etc.
@gregrutz Brontosaus existed. In the beginning, Brontosaurus excelsus and Apatosaurus ajax were considered to be of two different genus and species. Brontosaurus excelsus and Apatosaurus Ajax are slightly different, but scientist now feel that they are different species of the same genus so Brontosaurs excelsus was renamed as Apatosaurus excelsus. Yes, the skull was completely fabricated because a skull had never been found at the time.
Even though I'm 22, I still love to watch stuff like this. When I was younger I used to watch old episodes of Gumby and this video reminds me of it so much.
Do you know that the animator worked with Willis O'Brien himself on "The Black Scorpion", did maquettes for Disney, and worked on costumes for both Star Trek and the King and I?
I have been looking for this for soooo long. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'd really appreciate it if someone could locate a copy of the mammal portion of the film.
When I was a little girl, this movie was given to me by my grandfather on video-tape and I watched it constantly - even though the dinosaur at the beginning scared the hell out of me.
I remember this. My mom bought me this tape when I was a wee little boy. I brought ALL my dinosaur toys into the living room and let them watch it with me.
Ok, so Grumpy, Spike, Emily, Spot, the two Pteranodons from Land of the Lost... Stegosaurus, Allosaurus, and some of the duck billed ones are from different movies....
Tsintantosaurus according to what was known back then, but today paleontologists no longer believe it had the crest on its head. Had that been Saurolophus, the crest would've curved backwards.
thanks a lot

Did anyone else noticed that most of the dinosaurs in this were used in the 70s Land of the Lost?
I wonder if some of the dinosaurs that weren't in the series were made for it too, but didn't make it.

The name means 'terrible lizard' It does not mean they were. The avg. dino was 2-3 feet tall.
Brontosaurus was a mistake, it does not even exist.

6:55 Ha ha ha! The Styracosaurus stabbed the T. Rex in the bellybutton!
Wait, he's a reptile; he doesn't have a bellybutton. Or, well... now he does.
And why'd they say T. Rex was 50 feet long? The biggest skeleton is 42 feet long.
HoopsAndDinoMan 1 year ago
@HoopsAndDinoMan LOL!!! That was funny what the Styracosaurus did to the T-rex.
The T-rex measures about 40 feet in length and other larger dinosaurs like Saurophaganax and Spinosaurus measures about 50 feet long.

Scientifically inaccurate and imprecise, but highly entertaining.
TheCyberController 3 years ago
Okay, I'm gonna try to identify the unidentified dinosaurs
0:13 Allosaurus
4:46 Corythosaurus
4:52 Parasaurolophus
4:57 Either Saurolophus or Tsintaosaurus
5:45 Maybe Chasmosaurus
61btod 3 years ago
Almost forgot:
Brontosaurus is now called Apatosaurus;
Anatosaurus is now Edmontosaurus and Anatotitan;
and Monoclonius is a sub-adult of an unspecified horned dinosaur.
BTW, wasn't there like a sequal to this featuring the age of mammals?
61btod 3 years ago
yeah there is,on the video i had it was @ the end
philerbuni 2 years ago
@61btod Monoclonius is believed by some to be a sub-adult of Centrosaurus.
the86montecarlo 10 months ago
Tsintantosaurus according to what was known back then, but today paleontologists no longer believe it had the crest on its head. Had that been Saurolophus, the crest would've curved backwards.
And yes, at 5:45 it's Chasmosaurus.
DoomRulz 2 years ago
Tsintaosaurus does have a crest on it's head. The dinosaur you're thinking of is Tanius.
