Just because a cat is born without a tail doesn't make them a manx. My Bob is completely tail-less and although he's not polydactyl (extra toes), his testes never descended. The vet said this isn't really a rare birth defect but it's not super common either. Yes, he is sterile but he counts himself lucky -- he didn't have to be neutered! Bob is rather dog-like and is the official household greeter. He likes to sit by the door to watch the people come and go.
That's a manx. The kind of cat I'm getting. Because of it's dog like attitude and it's cat like stealth and look. It's like getting a hybrid pretty much. Yea I have total nun chuck skills and computer hacking skills. That's how we roll.
This cat breed is called MANX. They are born with no tail. There are however three tail catagories. Rumpy, stumpy, and ? One has total absense of a tail, with a hollow area under the skin. The next, has a very short nub. The last one has a shortened tail, usually about 3 inches long. They are very doglike in the way they act. They are very intelligent. Mine is 21 yrs old he understands around 20 to 30 words, and tries to mimic 2 words (out and down). He will let you know exactly what he wants.
@Melungeon1961 Oz is alot of fun he always trys to talk to me and he listens alot, he wil come EVERY time anyone says "OZZY" in a high pitched voice. He acts like a dog with kids too he dosent mind babies, a very odd thing for any cat is to not be threatened by kids.
actually he only has the extra ones on his back feet the "thumbs" are elongated due claws he has 5 toes on front feet and 5 toes on back feet. yes he was born exactly the way he is.

They are not that rare. LOL I had one a several years ago. What about the Albino cat that has no eye or hearing loss. Does that make him rare?? lol

I have a Manx like that. A rumpy riser (rumpy with a tiny rise of hair) but she isn't polydactyl. Very cool kitty you have!

@martinberg78 also if Oz isnt a manx type breed he could be a "hemingway cat" they have abnormal tails and funky digits on their feet. So cute!

Oz is a Hemmingway cat, a cat with extra toes. But his do look like thumbs. (;^) Was he born without a tail?
