I built 2 much smaller/slower mills than yours back around 2003 and 2005, though my next CNC project will likely be a Plasma cutter for flat 2-D cutting.
The last cut was suspose to be .03 of a cut to clean up the outer surface but I forgot the .0 and put.3 so it made a full cut. It still handled the cut just fine.
Yes I designed it using solidworks. I am working on my second router and a cnc plasma . I will try to post more built-threads as I go.

Nice chips and speed. Correct cutting speed and feed rate is very important. Good luck in work!
