180 to 200 mph at that point and when the tire sheared off the rollling over car kind of punted it and it bounced up probably 30 ft or more and then hit some pavement in front of the stands and then bounced again way up and it tragiclly landed just right [or wrong depending how u want to say that] on top op a pit crew member of a nostalgic funny car team and she was later pronounced dead at a hospital, from what i hear she was dead at the scene tho and it was very gruesome, so sad...

i do agree about how sad it was, but info about the wreak was incorrect, idk about the cylinders of the car but they go out all the time in these and would have only caused a slightly slower run, the problem was the right rear tire sheared off the lug studs at about the 60 timer and the car obviously without a tire rolled over and hit the wall and bounced over on top of it it never went all the way over it was just kinda perched on it, the problem was that the car was moving at probably...

To me it doesn't matter who or what caused the death of the woman, but the fact that when a car crashes, or tires fall off, at those speeds bystanders aren't protected! Can someone tell me why there aren't heavy duty fences up so this doesn't happen? I realize people want unobstructed views, but is it worth the death of someone? My friend was at the race and the tire flew over him and hit the lady 30 ft behind him. It's amazing the tire didn't kill more people!

I retired from the pro drag racing industry in 2008 after 18 years of service with various teams and can say with 100% certainty that 85 to 90% of the rears coming off are due to improper torque or not torqued at all. The stuuds on these big strange or chrisman diffs. do not just snap off without something else aiding it. Besides they use a aluminum anodized lug nut torqued at 130lbft and they can fatigue. Get your story straight.

The car went into tire shake,during which he peddled the car 8000 Hp is what snapped the damn studs! when he peddled the studs were loaded then unloaded with 8000hp. kinda like working a wire hanger back and forth until it snaps! It was not caused by overtightening or being loose!

The tire came off when he re-applied the throttle peddle, what propelled the tire into the grandstand & pit area was that It hit the front of the car as the car made its left turn and rocketed into the crowd. Twit!
