  • I agree the world has gone to shit so much better back then

  • I'd give anything for it to be 1984 again, greatest times, me and my dad used to watch this and reenact the movie, best of times, I miss you 1984...I miss the way we were...

  • Hollywood is so political it's scary. Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts and Kim Basinger getting Oscars? Are you kidding? Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Kate Hepburn, Peck, Mitcham, Bogart, and the Hustons, those are Oscar actors. Only Hanks and Streep come close today. What's wrong with giving them the Oscar year after year if they deserve it instead of giving it to high school actors like Bullock and Roberts. Eric Roberts can act circles around his sister. Just look at RAGGEDY MAN.

  • Absolutely a classic movie. Realism, not Pixar bullshit. Let's get back to movies like this: slice of life.

  • @taypar11 I really miss it back then, the fucking world has gone to the toilet unfortunately, what a god damn shame...what the fuck happened??????????????????

  • Classic scene put the drink in a new glass and a drop of Gin!

  • Mickey was hot in this movie :)

  • what happened?

  • wow .....one of my all time fav movies on the internet ....I grew up and saw them filming this in the village ......love it!

  • I think this movie is Rourke's and Roberts best.

  • Hard to improve on all the great things said about this film. I just love this movie. It epitomizes 'cool'. Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts were fantastic. It too was was the first time I heard Sinatra's classic (back around 1986). Now I can't remember not knowing it. Thanks for putting it up WYouBee21.

  • Who is the one single tasteless degenerate who disliked this? He should die of cancer! And get a visit from Uncle Pete!

  • If you don't want to consider it an alternate take, that's your prerogative. But it's not the take that was included in the "Strangers in the Night" LP, nor on the 45. The version from the "Strangers in the Night" LP was the one used in the theatrical and dvd versions of the film. Whoever uploaded it here obviously re-edited it. But you're right, Frank revisited almost all of his songs over the years, with slightly different arrangements.

  • This is not an "alternate take"of Johnny Mercer's The Summer Wind! Sinatra made dozens of recordings of this popular song and not one was the same as the other. Sinatra improvised his melodies and you should make the point of collecting his music so you can hear his countless variations! Miles Davis said that Sinatra was one of the greatest improvisers of the 20th Century! Miles wasn't known for complimenting white boys for no reason!

  • What's with the alternate take of Sinatra's "Summer Wind"? The movie had the classic version.

  • @voice1 Absolutely right on

  • Does anybody know the location of Sal's Resturant?

  • It doesn't get much better than this slice of life film from Rosenberg who was a product of New York City. Rourke and Roberts were great in this.

  • I saw this on pay tv back when it was a new film. My intro to these two guys.Great movie. Never tire of it. Thanks.

  • @bobbya16...why not?...yeah that's not the sountrack they released....I like that one better.

  • Charlie is hot.

  • seeing Micky in the first five minutes of this flick makes me wonder how he would have fared if he took Alec baldwins place in the glengerry glenross

  • when marlboro were smokable

  • Not the originally sound track....why?

  • Dude, why'd you sub out the original music track with an alternate? I can't even hear the answering machine or the Rourke's line about "don't cook" before he takes off to work.

  • Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts were ridiculous in this. These two guys lost more talent taking this morning's shit than actors like Mark Wahlberg could ever hope to possess in their entire lives.

  • Great Flick, Mick shines in it.

  • The hat check gal is Randall Edwards..from "Legs Diamond"...I got into a fight with her boyfriend over a taxi the opening night of Legs.

  • Johhny Mack's private stock....LOL

  • "We gotta stop meetin' like this", lol. GREAT film, thanks!

  • Fantabulous movie and great story behind it with Mickey getting Stuart to direct post the prior director wanting to shitcan Eric and Rourke had the juice to do so.

  • Remember when Mickey Roarke used to be hot?

  • Sister Julia cant even hold a candle to Big Brother Eric....He out-acts her every time. She cant even do Broadway or accents.

  • @Hardliner1269

    How very true!

  • @Hardliner1269 I always say that Eric Roberts got all the talent (and all the beauty!) in that family. I marvel that little sis Julia has a bigger film career. It isn't right.

  • @KellyGreen5555 Correct, indeed. From what I've read, she shadowed him when he was in Hollywood, slept with right folks to get ahead {Satisfaction, Mystic Pizza}, dissed Georgia Southern roots/erased accent, when he fell into drug dependency AFTER car accident, she turned her back on him, cut off communication. Once she dated/engaged all her costars, stole baby's daddy from his wife, she became Liberal to get the Oscar (undeserved}

  • @Hardliner1269 Agreed. Eric was dating Sandy Dennis in the early 1980's, and "Julie" would always tag along, hoping to catch a break. Eric landed her her first film (1986's Blood Red)

Julia abandons Eric in his darkest hour and won't speak to him for decades.

Another fact about America's Sweetheart: Julia Roberts has a nasty habit of parking her car in handicapped spaces!

  • @KellyGreen5555 Plus, as soon as she got the oscar for 'Erin Brokovich' {undeserved-it belonged to Joan Allen, Laura Linney, Juliette Binoche,or Ellen Burstyn--take a pick} she dumped Benjamin Bratt like the next day {3 mos. later}, she then broke up danny moder's marriage & married him. She has no scruples. She dumped lyle lovett when it turned out to be a drag for her. Now that Eric's daughter Emma is in the spotlight & Eric is doing the series 'Chuck' now she's trying to get back in picture.

  • @Hardliner1269 Julia Roberts is a hag who won the most undeserved Oscar in history...until Sandra Bullock (the poor man's JR) got hers.

  • @pdonster2 Last year the award belonged to Meryl Streep [Julie & Julia] --OR-- Carey Mulligan [An Education] who got more industry nominations/awards than her from powerful industry organizations.

  • @Hardliner1269 I thought the fat girl from Precious should have gotten it. Carey Mulligan was good too but I think Meryl Streep is kind of overrated.

  • @pdonster2 Yeah, you're right about Gabourey Sibidie deserving the Oscar. On Meryl Streep's defense, since 1992 the academy has snubbed her in favor of younger women when it definitely was her win. Usually the actress who wins must play a lesbian, killer, handicap, be very liberal, be foreigner, drug addict, or be in a film dealing with black racism

  • @pdonster2 This year it could have gone to Annette Bening because she plays a lesbian wife which is a Hollywood Plus for the Liberals --OR-- Natalie Portman because she is young [MANDATORY FOR A WIN] gorgeous [ A PLUS], the 'it' girl, pregnant from a foreigner Frenchman {A PLUS}, Jewish { A PLUS], plays a demented killer who has a death wish [ MANDATORY FOR A WIN ]

  • @pdonster2 Hollywood gives best actress to accents, black racism issues, foreigner, suicidal, drug addicts, liberal issues, diseased/illness/handicap, lesbian, killer, whistle-blower for liberal issues, young, dementia, victim {example rape, amputated finger}. Mark my words. I cross checked the list going back to 1983 AFTER Meryl won the award.

  • @pdonster2 Gabourey Sibidie from Precious fit Hollywood definition for Oscar because the role was black young victim of abuse & gets disease. But then the academy wanted it to go to Bullock because it was film about black racism in the South, interracial, accent, foster kid, homelessness. Precious situation was worse if you ask me. Gabourey deserved it more according to Hollywood Elite Standard but was Obese-a no no. Then Sandra kissed Meryl Streep on the lips to sway for the lesbian vote

  • @pdonster2 This year the oscar is supposed was supposed to go Annette Bening [The Kids Are All Right] [23 industry award nominations] --OR-- Jennifer Lawrence [Winter's Bone] [19 industry award nomations] but Hollywood always gives it to the 'IT' girl

  • @KellyGreen5555 Correct. Put it like this. Imagine Ferris Bueler-popular kid in school. Think Jennifer Grey-little sister, decides to copy brother & leaves southern Georgia, dismisses humble beginnings, starts showing up in studios where Ferris is doing films, sleeps around, hooks up with right click, gets small parts {Satisfaction/Mystic Pizza}. Ferris is in bad auto accident that leaves him in coma, gets drug addicted from meds, face is disfigured/body messed up. Sister takes over.

  • @Hardliner1269 julia is an idiot...eric is the best!!!!

  • We use to go to the Village to get away from characters like this.

  • i love this movie, 5th time watching it this week lol :D its so good

  • Love the song....

Sinatra didn't have a great voice.

  • @cinerama62

    Susan Boyle

    Tom Jones

    Aretha Franklin

    Andre Bocelli

  • @frickadele Interesting thought - this is a far inferior version of Sinatra's Summer Wind than the one they used in the original film. His voice is still awesome though.
