  • love the dating analogy

  • Wow!!!You're really great! Thanks

  • Glad to be of help! :) And congratulations on a successful speech.

  • Great vid, good advice for any speaking really. Whether publicaly or with associates. Also I think teachers would benefit greatly from practising some of these things.

  • great vid. Very useful. thanks for sharing.

  • I've been on YouTube for 1 year now and this video is the most interesting I have seen yet. Therefore my first comment:

    Great video with good tips

    Thanks

  • I must say I like the sound of Sue in her slingbacks!

Very helpful video- my pg studies are starting to push me into the realms of public speaking... I needed this

  • I think this is very insightful! Come to think of it I've seem many stand up comedians fail simply because they start with material obviously introduced to get the audience to like them - However liking them does not make them funny. The funniest comics appear not to give a damn if you like them or not. For them it's just a simple matter of presenting what he or she finds finds funny (or interesting) along with an attitude that says " tough titty if you don't"

  • I have struggled with public speaking anxiety since boyhood. As soon as I'm in a group and the spotlight falls on me - even a small group in informal setting - I tense up, blush, hyperventilate, my voice quivers and goes into my throat. It's awful.

I'm well educated, but I've never been able to go for better paid jobs because of this phobia. Consequently my life is full of frustration and lack of fulfillment. I just don't know what to do.

  • What happened to the other two P's?

    Anyway, great vid.

  • After I watched this video, I noticed there were a bunch of others YouTube wanted to show me. They all said the exact same thing that "they" always say. You put it in ways that I have not heard before. Is this an original idea from you, as far as you know? If so, how do you think you managed to come up with the analogy of introducing two people? Was it empathy? First principles?

  • It is my idea, and it comes from my struggle to find a way to talk about the truth without getting in the way...

  • thanks Stef! , I'll try this out and see how we go before commenting so quickly. It obviously works for you, you present yourself extremely well and have great confidence in your own ideas.

  • so basicly you killed self reflection and self criticism. nothing new there. but at least now i know where it comes from. maybe you´ll still consider: the way you present an idea DOES impact the credibility of the idea. if you feel so strongly about the idea, like you do, you IDENTIFY with it(in a psychoanalytical sense). by only focusing on getting your ideas across, you are automaticly not REALLY open for discussion.

  • How ironic, if you fear the audience then you should fear the audience.

  • next lesson: how to pick up chicks...after all they are judging you arent they? PLEASE I BEG YOU!

  • id like to hear your thoughts on this one too

  • How can I love an audience? An audience is only a collection of individual people. You can't climb a forest and you can't love an audience.

Ok smart ass mode off. ...lol

  • Haha, good one! :)

  • Stefan, I can understand loving the concept which you're trying to present. But, as strange as it may sound, how do you connect to the audience in such a way that you don't view them as the enemy?

  • You have to love their potential, and then make that happen... :)

  • Thank you!

  • Excellent!

These are the best tips on public speaking I have ever come across.

  • Great job.

  • Hey, I just wanted to add that when the speaker has contempt for the audience it also bad. Like this guy VenomFangX who talks about Christianity. Your video makes me wonder if he only has contempt for the atheist audience he's trying to communicate to, or if this contempt stems from fear and ego gratification. Great vid Stef!
