If you preform a correct throw, I don't think you'd need any ground work in self-defence... One good seonage or osotogari onto the pavment and it's lights out... Especially since people fighting in the street don't usually know how to take a fall =)
@ArK50 Better to be over prepared than under prepared though right? Although I do agree for the most part, I would try very hard to stay upright in a street fight. Luckily since I do judo I'm pretty good at that :)
Some underestimate it. But, " JUDO " is definetly it. I've stressed it over and over. A good judoka could easily cripple somebody out in the open " concrete "no matts". Just using ashi-waza. It's not just take downs. And if you carry out any lock or choke to its fullest, " CAN'T FIGHT LIKE THAT "
Judo, like other grappling arts has an advantage in the sense the sense that you can train your techniques in almost full motion and with full resistance from your partner, which allows you to develop real body mechanics and self defense skills.
This stuff really works. I've used it in a street situation & with the training i'd had, intercepted a much bigger guy's punch twice & used his momentum plus my own speed & strength to drop him on to the street pavement. I meant to armlock him after the first throw but was a little drunk. I didn't have to think & the witnesses couldn't believe how fast the throws were.
I'm a first degree black belt in judo and also a Shootfighting student, I have to say really nice job, a lot of people underestimate judo as a form of selfdefence but you prove that I can be used and is very effective, good job I would love to study with you!
44 seconds is my favourite part

I cannot stop watching 43 seconds, makes judo seem pretty viable an aspect of self defense.

Judo is SCIENTIFIC. Once you know it well; that's it. Everything else is just a helper to get to the CORE.
