You'd have to breathe in a dose comparable to having a shell blow up next to you for it to be horribly dangerous. Seriously, its U-238. Alpha radation can't go through paper and we get it all day from the sun. It doesn't have enough energy to rip electrons off atoms, not exactly harrowing.

Cavities were simply redefined for those with high fluoride in their water... The cavities don't have rotten color to them though. The reality is that fluoride weakens bones and is neurotoxic.

The statement "the behaviour of DU in the body is identical to that of natural uranium" is misleading, since the form of DU generated on the battlefield is of a much finer form, and consequently can penetrate cell walls, lung aveoli, and kidney filters much easier and wreak havoc both toxilogically and radioactively much more significantly than larger diameter natural uranium particles (DU battlefield particles can be 0.1 microns in diameter vs. natural uranium at 5 microns, 5000 times smaller).

Masks are good protection against inhaled particles. A solid gram of DU isn't very harmful, but a gram of aerosol DU inhaled into the lungs will kill you.

Washing, vacuuming, sweeping can help clean up the dust.

Protective masks are effective at protecting one's self from the radioactivity of DU as it stops the Uranium from being inhaled. Which is the only way you'll actaully be affected by the radioactivity, apart from having a DU round/shrapnel piece pierce into your body, since Uranium-238 is an alpha source and alpha particles are stopped by the dead outer layer of skin.

you keep talking about U238 when actually U236 was found in soldiers urine and tissues. U236 is not found in nature, it is hazardous waste from nuclear reactors, declared illegal to use by UN. It is considered a mass destruction weapon.

Really? Could you please tell me where you heard that? Note: Just checked, there has been a press release by the U.S. military that traces of it were found in some of the DU rounds, but I've seen no such reports of it found in soldiers.

Well, for one, I have heard it first from our Doctor proffessor in college... and she showed us a movie, documentary, made by a German doctor scientist. The movie's name is: The Depleted Uranium, The Doctor and the Dying Children. There were stories about and with UK war and they were all sick. One lady even gave birth to a baby with no eyes..there were lots of blod tests done..and that's what they have found in their bodies. There are other movies here on youtube that go very in dep about this.

Good point, for U-238 it's 4.5 billion years. Unfortunately DU is also full of other lethal radioactive isotopes such as trace amounts of other uranium isotopes, plutonium, americium, neptunium, cesium, and strontium. The use of such genocidal weapons is beyond forgiveness. You're right, there is no way to reduce the toxicity of DU other than to wait a couple of half lives are over.

It's called depleted uranium because the vast majority of Uranium-235 in the sample has been removed, thus leaving almost all Uranium-238.
