James Dempsey is one of the engineers on the Cocoa frameworks team, last I heard. A couple of years ago, he was the trainer responsible for teaching Apple customers how to use WebObjects.

Everybody has their own version of MVC. Here the view cannot update the model directly. He is singing more about Model View Presenter. The View in actual fact could be Web Pages, or Windows and the presenter can take actions or populate from either via an interface or interfaces. The views implement the interfaces.
