  • Why didn't he wait until may to give his talk?

  • Homosexual activists understand the power of words.

Please visit my channel to watch a one-minute video clip in which popular atheist author Richard Dawkins admits that homosexual activists "hijacked the word 'gay'".

The word "homosexual" is more appropriate and accurate because it, unlike the word "gay", actually describes the behavior/attraction/relationship being discussed.

The word "gay" helps homosexual activists push their agenda.

  • who the hell is gonna buy a rolex?thats really stupid. they are way too expensive

  • Rolex ads are absoutely horrible. i had a much better image of Rolex in my head before seeing these ads.

  • Gay . Dumb video .

  • @JR12345111 umad homophobe ?

  • @machielste1 He mad

  • @Blobthe15 Why he mad doe?

  • Very impressive video guys !!

You knowe Im a huge fan of your work !

Looking forward to more in 2011

  • WTF BLUE THING.

  • A geodesic dome in the east river to attempt to deeply affect the decision making at the UN. Theres a laugh! The nations in the world are mostly dictatorships and tryannies, the UN sits in silence intentionally because the UN is controlled by those nations. How else do tyrants come in to power if not by the silence of the people in power of those nations. Iran!?! Syria! Saudia Arabia! Cuba! Venezuela! The naivety of these liberals buffoons just so they can feed their egos is neaseating.

  • I feel so much better that while i screw around great minds are at work with the goal of making the future a little brighter for the rest of us.

I am inspired to go out and see how i can make the world better.

  • @cmd2tuts right on bro I feel the same way

  • he should have named it sphere instead of orb. because it would sound so much better, for example, Nick Sears' Sphere, a very catchy advertising phrase.

  • Looks dangerous. What if someone push me and I hit it with my shoulder? Take out my skin and break my shoulder?

  • so the point of it is

  • I've seen a Dyna Scan (cylindrical spinning display) in person and it wasn't very impressive. Very jumpy and hard to see. It doesn't seem like the spinning display is much more than a fad. My money's on holograms!

  • Wow, in, I'd say, 15 years, we'll be sitting in our living rooms watching a life-size, 23,000p HD, fully 3-D, interactive hologram of our movies, home videos, porn, and everything else.

They will have to get around the spinning metal sphere blender-threat issue though....

  • It's a smashing piece of kit.

It has real promise for displaying spherical information, such as maps, and global real time info. Mapping a sphere onto a 2D surface or display has been a big problem for ever.

I high res version of something like this could be useful.

As well as just being an entertaining display medium. Just because "we can".

  • Rolex time pieces are crap, they can't keep time well...Go with a Longines

  • uuhwants to find a man who will share a good time with me

  • TED rocks, but don't you think sometimes their lectures are like product pitches for the personal gain of the speaker? Good info and all, but some can't help to mention patent pending this or oh looky I made that.

  • the Dalai Lama wears a Rolex. What a prick

  • @Robstailey

    Lmfao.

  • I like my rolex very much.

  • Rolex.... *-*

  • Remember the tv on Mars Attacks?

  • the point is that in order for this object to function it would stil phyically fill the area which it wants to project... why not build a non rotating sphere with leds....now it is creating a whole lotta noise and wind... the only reason it might be better than a static sphere filled with leds is that this is more energy efficient... otherwise i can't see the use.

in anycase it still looks impressive.

  • the reason to use a rotating ring with lights rather then a ball of LEDs is for definition of the image. The moving lights allow for natural images unlike a ball of lights where each light would be like a large pixelated image. The uses on the other hand is something else.

  • To begin with I thought it was a hologram and I was like woah, Star Wars here we come...Sadly not

  • That is cool!

  • these people are amazing..

  • What is the orb for?

  • creating 3d images out of light :O

  • amazing.

  • Try getting a psychology degree before making psych evaluations or trying to spout pop-psychology as some sort of fact.

If anything at all, his mannerisms indicate that he MAY be uncomfortable with public speaking.

As soon as you said 'this means his...' it became obvious that you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Mannerisms at best, indicate something as being more or less likely. Maybe his hand was cold, or maybe that's just something he does out of habit. It doesn't MEAN anything

  • At least the man is on the stage while you are sitting on a chair writing a comment of hatred.

  • Yes.

  • or maybe.

You don't have to offend yourself when posting comments.

  • how... is that...offending myself?

  • Oh great, I can see these things hanging from the ceilings of department stores projecting some kinda sales slogan on them... :(

  • Yeah, could be dangerous....

    Yeah it's really cool-NO DON'T TOUCH THAT!

  • man thats really cool!!!

  • A LITTLE DANGEROUS....

  • Nice, just don't touch it ;)

  • I hear they are working on a cheaper 2D-version too.

It utilizes a spinning disk with a series of holes spiraling toward the center, for rasterization.

Soon we wont need LCDs or plasma screens anymore.

  • Like the Baird TV system? How retro!

  • Very cool!

  • you could probably attain an even greater resolution by arranging three (or more) rings in a gyroscopic formation. Great stuff.

  • wow its just like star wars, just dont put your finger in it.

  • The truth is out there.

  • Great vid. I've always said that TV will be in three dimensions some day. It will sit in the middle of your living room instead of against a wall. Very thought provoking.

  • and porn will be amazing.

  • -ly devestating when your dick gets chopped off...

  • @VivekRajcoomar Dont need porn... Only for nerd.

  • @KAMIKAZEMW2QC Saying porn is only for nerds is like saying the internet is only for nerds. Saying porn is only for nerds is also like saying that music is only for people like a certain type of music, or play in a band. You're a very ignorant person, and I hope that you sometime realize this, and get some logical thinking.

  • @Drazeroth100 I do have logical thinking. BUT, in my case, why would i watch porn if i get some puss... It was a Stereotype...

  • @KAMIKAZEMW2QC And stereotypical people are stupid.

  • @KAMIKAZEMW2QC must be a lot of nerds out there

  • "and invite you to take a closer look . .. " (long pause) "thank you very much" . .. people clap.

  • this was at the hope confrence

  • i think my cousin bought one of those at spencer's back in '95.

  • i thought it was a holographic display

  • This was really cool!

    ...30 years ago, i suppose...

  • They should make a magnetically suspended or hovering geo.

First time I seen something like this was Secret of NIMH - Nicodemus had one.

  • i dont get the point of this ORB?? what is it used for? and why is it important?

  • "..animations of global data, trends, and other information regarding the globe." ... according to the audio in the above video.

  • why is paper important? why are TVs and monitors important?

it's a new medium of display. it's importance depends on how it's used.

  • i want an orb-rolex

  • hahahaha

  • I have one. The arm goes back and forth and tells the time.

  • well,it just sucks..

  • "...that creates glowing 3D images."

The surface of a sphere can be expressed in two dimensions.

This guy ate too many mexican failing beans.

  • hmmmmm mexican failing beans

  • This guy isn't a) nervous b) using his arm motions too much

  • Awesome!

  • what is the point of this ORB?

  • it's new technology, a cheaper way to present certain aspects.

ie. the world. being able to show the weather for example

  • trying to make hologram? @_@

  • you can already guess that some engines will produce a lot of heat

  • So, Nick. You have a real important presentation of an expensive, new, shiny toy.

    What should you wear?

Should you bother to check your hair in the mirror, before you step out on stage?

No, by all means go with the dirty jeans and disheveled look, it says you just rushed over from the workshop, because you just remembered the thing you had to do.

Don't worry about investors thinking you might have just blown a bong-load, those haters just don't get the key market for your product anyway.

  • Ha ha ha that's funny. You're quite witty, and well spoken. Truly, a rare combination on youtube.

  • Thank You

I always am available for praise.

  • Rolex's are for bitches.

Everyone know's if you're baller you buy a Patek Philippe !

    Rolex can suck it.

  • Suck what?

  • the rolex part was cool

  • This is Porn for nerds and geeks

  • This guy isn't a) nervous b) using his arm motions too much

  • i wonder what language he is using to write the code for the LED display.

  • boring!

  • Bring that thing to Burning Man!

  • what the f... its way too loud and nothing special. i have a clock that works that way. that might have been cool in the 80´s, maybe...

  • So, put a clear dome over it. Big deal.

Actually...That would enhance the quality as well, by coating the inside with lumanecant material, kind of like a cathode ray tube.

  • kinda old

  • i like the rolex part better than the first part

  • Pretty cool!

  • fake sorry u naggers

  • anyhow, technically it is possible. and the idea is the most important thing. i use a led spoke pov by myself and i never had an idea like that

  • What is wrong with you?

  • i'm not impressed at all!

  • Wow, that was not informative AT ALL. If I wanted to see a three dimensional LED display that could cut my fingers off I would have gone to the nearest gadget-store and bought one. Where's the innovation and perspective??

  • waranoa: you are wrong.

``If I wanted to see a three dimensional LED display that could cut my fingers off I would have gone to the nearest gadget-store and bought one.´´ no, you cant, because they dont exist yet.

thats the innovation. in 5 years, you will be able to do what you claim to be able to to right now.

  • Allright, what he's doing here is a lot more sophisticated than what exists today, but the wirling rings of LED-letters the chinese lady near the restaurant wants to sell me work according to the same principle as far as I can tell, so in that respect I can't really see this as a scientific breakthrough. The only thing added is that the display forms a perfect cirkel, for which a lot of innovative technique had to be used, but neither the end result nor the originality of it really turn me on.

  • It is too dangerous, too much moving parts and people want to touch and get their hands rip of. There are other better hologram methods out there now.

  • You enclose the structure in glass. Thats seems logical to me.

  • It's effectively a sphere (with moving parts) that shows a changable image. Why not just build a sphere and save on the moving parts? A fantastically interesting gizmo sure but this gizmo certainly has no potential to improve the quality of my life.

  • ssprouts: because LEDs are not translucent. so this wouldnt enable you to create a 3-dimensional display. the globe is not truly 3-dimensional, its just one surface. how would you do it truly 3-dimensional without LEDs that are either translucent without moving or translucent because they are moving?

  • very nice tech very advance but kind a dangerous from the way it spins from that spped @_@ what will happen if something object or may your cat will hit that thing you can't display this in certrain place in your house or office etc..

  • I don't really see the use. So if you disagree with me; please do explain why it is usefull.

Imo 3d should really be 3D, meaning a 3D projection. If you touch this your hands get cut off..

  • Fuck the United Nations!!!!

  • about damn time

  • Don't get your fingers near it!

  • so we're going to have 3d porn soon?

  • Dude, get your lotion out already /watch?v=thOxW19vsTg

  • Yeh, but you'll cut your wang off if you try anything

  • very good point.

You nerds want to impress me.

3D porn that you can put your wang into without getting it cut off.

  • Why????

  • Fail, nothing new... not terribly useful.

  • it is useful whether you believe it or not. just get used to the fact that the world does not care what you think. think about what you are going to say before you leave a comment like that.

  • I thought long and hard about it. And in my opinion its quite useless. Thus I posted my opinion in the spot for opinions. Im sorry that you think it is useful but I dont.

    Thanks

  • Nice machine Rolex

  • I think the machines making the Rolex watches are more impressive then that LED light globe. What use is that LED light globe? The best it can do is produce low resolution 3D images. In a world of High Definition I think it's behind on the times.

  • Meh, this isn't that great, considering I got a clock a couple years back that went back and forth and produced the time, date and etc.

So basically it's the same thing only going in a circle.

  • this shit is dumb.

  • 啥呀?

  • omfg!

  • thank you Rolex.

  • google the "Perspecta Spatial 3D" to see a proper polished version of this display technique.

  • ah it seems there is a low quality video of the Perspecta Spatial 3D on youtube:

    watch?v=8KaQmn2VTzs

  • Well he is an american and they think edison was an inventor.

  • 我媽說我降世之時 左手指天 右手指地 環行七步 目顧四周 曰:天上地下,惟我獨尊!

  • agreed

  • ???? 你同意什么哈? 很郁闷! 说的明白点行不?

  • 只有一些政策不是所有的

  • I feel like I've just had pillow talk with Rolex.

  • Good thing to have at a rave

  • Why didn't I think of that!

  • es un buen vido pero no lo entiendo solo entiendo español

  • Awesome ^_^

  • that's a good idea!

  • cool it might be the beginig of a 3d display

    give it 10 years

  • I liked the Rolex ad.

  • same here

  • heh, I thought for a moment at the beginning of the video, that it was an actual hologram :)

  • Pretty neat.

  • woah

  • Is this a new method of watching porn?

  • Impressive!

  • why is this a phenomenon..

  • If you need to ask then you don't need to know.

  • fuller rules!!

  • I happened on a nice large display based on this working principle at a local mall. Search for Dynascan 360. It's far superior to the one in this video.

  • that device looks very dangerous. It might make you touch it with your fingers the more it looks like a globe.... this will not be good for you fingers.

  • You're right, perhaps they will think of a protective fiber-reinforced-plastic sphere in the future.

  • Rebel Pilot: Shooting torpedos into a 1 metre gap is impossible!

Luke: It's not impossible, we used to shoot wamp rats smaller than that on tatooine

  • I saw Sean and his dad at the last HOPE over the summer. I made a video interview. I think I'll post it.

  • er. Nick. sorry.

  • seen this in bars and circuit parties for years

  • it looks nice but seems like a sophisticated type of decoration....

  • wtf with the commercial at the end?

"now free to the world" --except for advertising.

  • scapino7: did you have to pay to watch it, yes or no?

  • kurtilein3: why would a company pay to have their gold watch advertised? Because it effects statistics of consumption. so yes, I pay for advertising, even when its 'free'. everyone does--they just don't realize it because people think their purchasing habits are based on conscious decisions. how much of your mind and desires do you really own?

  • scapino:

so if you watch a tedtalk, and stop the video at the end of the talk so that you dont watch the commercials, you watch it for free? and if you watch longer, it suddenly costs something? that doesnt make sense. how much did you have to pay to watch the advertisement at the end of the video?

a ticket for the TED-conference costs 6000 dollars, so maybe can we still call it `for free´ even if you have the feeling that some money is now missing in your pocket because you watched the ads.

  • Audiences are indeed "sold" to advertisers. That's how broadcasters make their money.

Even though we as the audience are being bought, sold and traded as commodities - we don't see any of that money. We get "paid" in watchable content.

  • I'm gonna go buy a rolex because they had an advert on TED

    advertisements make entertainment free

  • I hope he puts a guard mesh around it - stick your finger in that bugger rotating and you lose it.

  • omg I have a shitload of ideas where to apply this

  • example?
