@Blackseed1978 thx buddy, I try and think of things that will continue to help others as they get into the business :) I appreciate your support and comments... Its been a blessing to meet so many other people out there, both driver and non driver.. :) -E
@yourboyethetrucker thanks for adding me on ur facebook. I'm "jeff thumper harris" on there, it wouldn't let me do thumperthejackrabbit on youtube. I'm pretty good in the kitchen but sucky in the truck too. I'm a sandwich guy, or microwave!! :) lol
@300savageshooter ok awesome.. its so tough to tell when your on youtube :) .. I like sandwiches and micros.. but I love the stove and chopping stuff up… :) thx for the reply haha I was just trying to get to these emails and comments :)
i love walmarts and rest areas, no im not gay lol, rest areas because i cant spend a crap load of money there like at truck stops, its an easy pull through and not a lot of lights at nite, walmarts because i can do my grocery shopping.
ALSO.. I have a coleman 2 burner stove that uses the small propane cyl. and also a small BBQ stove that uses the same propane cyl.. The Coleman WILL allow you to use a larger skillet and th BBQ stove will cook GREAT steaks... I have been trying to find more recpt on here for new idea on HOW to cook and WHAT to cook... I love to experiment... Thinking about writing a book someday from my notes I have made over the year.. GREAT vid.. Keep on Trucking....
I have been driving for right at 30 years now... I do probably 90 percent of my own cooking in the truck... One word of advice.. Get one of those 12 volt ovens, and save your left-overs from home and put them into a bunt pan... those that they use to make small loaves of bread, then you can freeze them, and when you leave home, take a couple of them along and pop them into the 12volt oven and in about an hour or so ( depending on how thawed they are ) you have a home cooked meal..
@kingofyal1 food varies, but the showers are free if I stop by the terminals or if I use my rewards cards when I fill up at the truck stops :) I think I average like 30 wk for food if I eat out every day.. (which I don't) :) hope that helps -E
Cool vids man. I got all my cook ware kitchen stuff at the swapmeets...real cheap! 1,000 watt single burner electric stove for $20. and it boils! it also heats up fast and cools down fast....Here's a tip, if you don't want all that smoke in the truck, turn the a/c all the way up, and open the(back) windows, (close the front ones) you'll get some nice ventillation in there and you won't steam up. Also, buy an inverter (at least 1500 wats)
@egsupertrucker thx for the comment, that was a good idea to hit the swap meets, your gonna have to vid how those items are working for ya haha the only problem on my end is I gotta watch what kind of inverter I put on… it has to be 12v compatible because otherwise I gotta hook up to the battery directly (which is cool) but not allowed in the terminals… i know I know, but those are the rules haha thx again
Hey great video. I love rice with my chicken too but since it is so hard to cook on the road and if you like rice maybe you would like yakisoba noodles. You can find them in most WalMarts. Drive safe & thanks for keeping America moving!
@OWHR2 thx for the tip... I actually got some 7 min rice that I could cook in the little 12v oven, but now I'm trying to turn a healthy leaf haha... so Im all about veggie soups haha... that and some subway when I get the chance... I guess the cooking will have to wait till I'm home :) ... I'll have to hold off on the title "your boy e the chef" haha
I dont know about swift but most companies alow you to put a tv in the truck as well as a 12v cooler. I did when I drove for that orange trucking comp as well as knight refer now I am with a OO,so I can do as I want. As for spices I carry all of mine in a small plastic tub (salt, pepper ect)
I also just got a seal a meal. I use a small colman single burner with propane. I am going to move up to a dual this month.Yes I used all this with the other companies and it was never a problem
This video was kind of depressing, but at the same time very informative. I'm not referring to the menu, it's the 16 hr. Layover in a Walmart parking lot with no pay. That kinda made me really start to rethink wether I want to do this or not. Could you talk a little bit about the pay and why you decided to go CD rather than OO. Thanks man ( it just occurred to me your name might not be e..) I appreciate the time you put in to make these videos for us.
@illbmeubu Ah Man.. haha... you said "depressing" I hear ya about the wait time. Its part of the package. Sometimes is "go go go" other times its "wait your turn". But in the end it all pans out. Just keep yourself busy, read a book, watch a movie, SLEEP, make calls to your fam... those 16 hours zapped by really fast. Re: OO or CD I am still looking into going OO, but for now Im working on going up the ladder as a CO :) Ps. Names Edward, but I go by E
@waypenn To my understanding, I dont think so... they dont want anything draining the battery. So if they company truck they give you does not come with it, then i would not install it. Also I think its because its a company truck, and they may have you switch out and drive a different truck down the road. Owner Ops are different, you can pretty much install anything you want. So till then I would say, save your money :) thx for comment :) - E
Good work! All highway tractors should have built in inverters.I`ve seen too meny burned plugs. The tractor I drive has an APU.Still I wish it had a built in inverter. My thinking is if the truck is already running, why would I fire up an APU.See I run team so it seem im always doing things when the truck is running down the road. Also as long as you have the AC on or the windows down don`t worry about cooking in the truck.
@pwarren1010 I hear ya :) sounds like you got a good arrangement with your partner ... you should film what cha got cooking for us all :) thx for the comment
@jbraxton11 thats cool bro.. I hope its all going good for ya :) hit me up on facebook sometime :) yourboyethetrucker@hotmail.com :) holler anytime - E
you got to get a 12 volt adapter that lets you plug in .electric cord..it has a cooling motor.....good enough for small pan ..radio........comp,,,,,i suggest a habachi grill...its a small cast iron outdoor grill small, compact, easy to use ....then get a folding chair and youll be chillin...hey iced tea....GODs NECTER lol.... chill bro...................ps cock pot is the BOMB,,,,cut potatoes ,put on bottom put whole chicken on top 6 or 8 hrs smell will drive you wild ..late Bro......
I've never seen that 12V "frying pan", but I do have the little "Oven to Go" by RoadPro and I love it! It will cook a giant potato in one hour, top that hot potato with some Hormel Chipotle Chicken and you have a hot, nutricious meal for dinner. I also make Hamburger or Tuna helper in it, and I love when the whole truck starts smelling good from the food cooking...it makes my stomach grumble and my mouth water in anticipation of some healthy, good eats. :D
My instructor told us he used to have a crockpot in his truck, he would put all the ingredients in it in the morning and put it on low to start cooking so it would be ready to eat at the end of the day. The only problem was that after a few hours it would start to smell really good in that truck right, so for the whole day he could hardly concentrate on his driving because of that smell lol!
YO...E, Great videos dude i much appriciate all the help, i am 3 wks into my training w/ my mentor, and one thing id like to add to yur list of challenges is not being able to go to the restroom whenever you need to when driving with a mentor, so you really have to be carefull as to what you eat cause what goes in must come out, and some things come out quicker than others,HA HA,but no doubt yo great vids keepem commin. mike, by the way i work for swift as well... hope to see you out there.
@domino817 I heard that haha ... your got to adjust to not not being able to go anytime you want and then when your with a partner you have to adjust even more because when you gotta go in the middle of the night, you gotta get off your bunk quietly so you dont wake them up. Its is a challenge for sure haha. thx for the comment :) I'll keep filming for sure - E
Hey E! Good video, good idea with getting the slicing board, thx man. One tip for cooking rice; I found that the only way to cook rice is if you use that minute rice, and cook it in one of those 12v. stoves. Regular rice don't cook all the way thru, so get you a stove and put a cup of minute rice in it with a little water and it'll cook up in 10-15 min. Also if you want a quick laugh on the road, check out all the SCTV videos if you're into comedy. Check this one man, SCTV cruisin gormet :).
@scopelite I just bought one of those stoves too, so I'll defiantly try and cook the 7 min rice and I'll let you know how it turns out :) thx for the idea I appreciate it - E
I would never drive for a company that has no APU's in there trucks.i stay out 4-6 weeks and cost to much money to eat 3 meals a day 7 days a week.I always cook in my truck.Lucky for me I got a frige and tv,lol.
Oh yeah and also for all watchers so they know.. It used to be that ALL Wal-mart super centers were considered safe zones for trucks and RVs but now because of cities and certain states have introduced ordinances no longer allowing overnight parking in the parking lots. Wal-mart actually used to even advertise the parking arrangements at their stores but not anymore. There are still quite a few Wal-marts that do allow it but you have to check if it's ok or you might get a knock on your door.

There are still quite a few Wal-marts that do allow it but you have to check if it's ok or you might get a knock on your door.
@xraysmoothj your probably right ... I'll have to keep my eye out for that... my usual goal is to park out of the way, keep my idle very low to none if possible, purchase something from walmart and see if other trucks are parked there as well.... but I feel ya .. that would stink to get that knock haha
There are some other videos I have watched regarding cooking in the truck.. I don't know if you have watched Bigcattruckers or Keystrucker vids on cooking but Bigcat used a propane(?) hotplate or some sort of gas.. He was able to use a normal sized skillet/pan and it heats up real nice.. Keystrucker shows how to cook things in a crock pot such as lasagna. They had some good ideas as well
@xraysmoothj I'll have to check those out, although I dont feel too good about cooking with live flame in that little truck haha... lasagna sounds good haha
@yourboyethetrucker I cook with "live flame" but of course, the truck is always perfectly still and parked when I use it. I use my propane burner every morning to boil up a pot of water.....for my instant coffee, and then I also have hot water to get washed up with. Sometimes, I'll throw some small sirloins into the frying pan and sizzle up some steaks, then I remove the steaks, and add fresh broccoli. Instant mashed potatoes on the side, and voila, a great home cooked meal. :D
The propane burner with the stand is only about $25.00 at Walmart. I buy the two pack of propane tanks, about $5.00 or less for the two. One tank last a good while, over a month, at least. And I use it every morning for coffee and hot water for washing up. Well worth the investment, and it takes up only about 8" (circular) of room. Use it only when parked, of course.
Dude there is a propane stove on walmart for $ 20 I think you like it cuz it seams that you are a good cocker, if you have it I sure youll make a huge meal ....as always bro nice video keep it up
@roro560v8 thats cool thx for the tip :) I like propane but I need to work on the set up to see where I can cook on it. Usually there is the catwalk I see people cook, but my problem is the fuel tank is right by the cat walk so thats a no no... Imma have to maybe invest in one of those little fold up tables haha
@balla4eva91 You can, I have seen other drivers have them however the more you have, the more power you draw and I know swift has certain rules about power inverters and such. But to answer your question, you can have small appliances and stuff, just watch your power draw
@balla4eva91 Well I think during your 240 hrs you may wanna just pack light haha because you will be in your mentors truck. Afterwards when you get your own company truck, you can put things in there but they have to usually stay within the 12volt idea. xraysmoothj has the idea... The Company does not want you drawing directly from the batter which is what those 1000 watt converters do...when you get out on the road you will see what works :) -E
I really enjoy your videos. I am curious about how you like being OTR? It would seem that your are dealing with it pretty well. How is your family handling it? My plan is to wait till the first of the new year to make the move. Keep the vids coming!
@desertdog36 OTR is cool, but the pressure and stresses of being away is off and on. Honestly when I am "working" I usually do well, but its the times where I have to do 34 hr resets or sit during a long loading or off loading time is when I usually feel the "being gone" part. My family is cool, of course they want me home but know that I am trying to accomplish goals so they support me 100%. Thats cool your gonna start soon, make sure you keep me updated :) thx for the comment - E

@roro560v8 thats cool thx for the tip :) I like propane but I need to work on the set up to see where I can cook on it. Usually there is the catwalk I see people cook, but my problem is the fuel tank is right by the cat walk so thats a no no... Imma have to maybe invest in one of those little fold up tables haha

good video but when you start out in swift you cant bring a tv or anything ???
balla4eva91 5 months ago
