hat brand of guitar,, I wonder, he's the greatest,

  • Truely awesome.

The sad thing is we are never going to see the likes of Mississippi Fred again.

    Truely Legend.

  • He's a big inspiration to the harmolodic guitarists, like Vernon Reid.

  • Guitar takes place of people who would answer singer..blues is vocal, not instrumental (boy that's going to upset someone!). Funny, all the guitar blazing blues since it moved from black roots is really nothing to do with this music's purpose..a community binder. You sing troubles out. Instruments came along to take the place of "chorus", the field gang, the church congregration, who originally echoed singer. Then the "box" became a buddy...even a "gal" for musician.

  • if anyone did sell there soul it was this man , respect .........

  • "This man was the most haunting & rawest slide player that ever lived."

    Son House anyone?

  • Gotta love Fred. If you like Fred, check out so RL Burnside too...

  • what year was this?

  • He looks almost as if he's about to cry towards the end. Wouldn't surprise me if he actually was, as most of the older blues musicians suffered real hardship.

  • It's funny how he starts a sentence but doesnt't finish it, the guitar does. :3

  • whats the tuning? G?

  • @matthewtj887 open d

  • So good I gotta watch it again!

    And again

    And again

    ....

  • "I make the guitar say what I say"

  • maybe god?...

  • One of B. Raitt's influences, the music goes ever onward thru musician after musician. Burden laid down, music goes on and on. And that's enough.

  • Thanks for sharing, this is phenomenal

  • Great blues and upload!!

  • Fred McDowell is highly important, thank you very kindly for sharing!

  • whow play the Blues for the LORD

  • thanks for the post.

  • goddamn godamn

  • beautiful.....thanks for this

    Grandma mary

  • Otha Turner's version on his fife was amazing!

  • This song gives me chills. Just read where AKUS is doing a version on their upcoming record. Can't wait to hear Jerry Douglas's version.

  • Great stuff in here !!!

  • Fred's got a killer version of this in open G off his 1969 cut, "I do not play no rock and roll"

  • Glory Glory Glory!!!

  • Glory Glory !

  • One of my favorite bluesmen always a pleasure listen to Fred thanks for the upload

  • Took me a while to find out, but Fred Mcdowell plays in open E.

    E-B-E-G#-B-E

  • @panbread89 I was just wondering if it was open E or open Em...then I saw your comment...cool...thanks...

  • Fred deserves more credit as one of the best electric guitarists,

I also love this track, on the martin scorcesse film bout the blues they play it with a flute an drums it sounds fantastic...

  • @AnarAtragin Hello. Could you tell me what the title of the martin scorsese film is?

  • @taylor12martin Hey dude... the film's called Feel Like Going Home, it comes on a boxset of 7 blues documentaries and mediocre fiction films

and the flautist is called Otha Turner i think there's the video of him on youtube as well

  • @busessuck1 Much obliged for the answer and quick review.

Otha Turner? Funny. As in "No brother, I'm not Ike Turner, I'm the Otha Turner"

  • That was great stuff from a classic blues master. Thanks for posting!

  • Fred was what I love about deep blues, the kind with just a man and a guitar and what he can do with it. Everything else (drums, harmonica, bass, etc...) are just distractions, Fred proves that.

  • authentic inspiration and feeling 100%

  • Incredible...thanks for sharing!

  • wow

  • Fred McDowell... can it be more genuine?Thank you for sharing this.Every clip with him is priceless.

  • He could really make that guitar sing.

  • !!!

  • Maybe my favourite song of all times, in bothMississippi Fred and The Staple Singers versions.

  • @nightingalerider me too - and let's not forget mississippi john hurt!

  • @nightingalerider: Same here! You might wanna check out the version by Otha Turner and Corey Harris, I uploaded it last week! I can't seem to get enough of it.

  • thanxs, it's the first version i ever heard! No, actually the first was the dixieland style version by Dr John and the great Mavis Staple, check it out!

  • moving footage of fred is to rare, thanks for this one!

  • Capolavoro. Grazie mille.

  • man, i'm glad this is back...there was another post same song, but it had a woman singing the back up..it seemed slower as well. classic. this is just as great tho. thanx!
