I love Martha, she's the best companion in my opinion. I like Rose, and I think Donna is hella awesome, but Martha is the best. And of course, I looove the Doctor =D
I think the purpose of this episode is to show Martha's worthiness, because the viewers at the time were still mourning over Rose. Martha really did show em though! ;) She's tough, reliable, and compassionate, and that's what makes a great companion.
Best part of new Who ever, I think its the fact we finally get a break from the relentless fucking orchestra for once and are allowed to jusy take in the poignance of the scene. Ive always believed soundtraking is unnecessary, and its totally overused in Who, just let people hear the scene, why does everything need a fucking symphony underneathe it all the bloody time
@shannon97xxx Same here. Oh and I know I just posted a comment to you about the last scene, but since you asked if the Doctor loved Martha I wanted to add that I thought he was mouthing I love you as she was taken away at 0:32-0:40. I thought he was saying I love you right after he said I'll save you. Then he got all p*ssy in these next scenes about losing her like he was in love with her and he just lost the love of his life. Oh well, what does it matter right? The Doctor didn't deserve
Yup; And I don't care what any says; it doesn't matter who your favorite companion is: The Doctor and Martha's exchange here across the miles is one of the most powerful and moving scenes in New Who history.

@shannon97xxx Martha any way. He was such a jerk to her the entire season. Martha deserves better, like Riley or Tim or someone who isn't the Doctor.

This episode is like "The Impossible Planet/ The Satan Pit' except it had a black hole and a Panet instead of a ship falling onto a Star.
