Funny how they introduced a car in the states in 1987 that had been launched in europe TEN YEARS earlier and discontinued in '86.... Talk about behind the times!!
@MrCaddilac Considering they were one of the most dependable and fuel efficient 4 cyl engines of that era, yes. One of the few engines that generated 1 hp per cubic inch. GM couldn't touch them. A turbocharged 2.2 could eat a 1984 V8 equipt Comaro for lunch.
what year was hers?? what kinda problems did you guys have?? i have a 1978 horizon and its running great no problems but yet again i take really good care of it and so did the girl that owned it before me!
i think it was an 85 or 86. the previous owners clearly treated it like a hunk of junk. when we got it it had a broken brake light, no door panel on the inside of the driver side door weak battery and the fact that it was just too old and beaten up to run the way it should have. and the material around the ignition was torn off, implying that the car was stolen at some point in it's life. we were it's last owners because the exhaust rotted off and popped a tire and took down the gas tank.
i ran out of space lol. anyway the gas tank sank slightly but we didn't know and we drove it for another year before finding out it wasn't safe enough to be street legal. every time i hear a screeching belt on a car i think of the horizon because ours always screeched in the cold. personally i love horizons.
Maybe, but I'm pretty sure Chrysler Europe designed them as the Talbot Horizon to replace an older Talbot line, they were then introduced here with bigger engines, longer bumpers, chrome, and the usual silly American options like fake woodgrain.
False woodgrain, thankfully that was just a fad. I guess after the Ford Woody other car companies thought it looked good, it was just a useless fad like when cars had high amounts of chrome, little bumper grilles, and four headlights.
@Ryoku75 Yes, the pride is back, born in America!!! ..... ..... Ok,so it's basically a French car. Who cares, just show another US flag in the commercial and people will buy it.
@mipmipmipmipmip They looked French but the models for America were made in America at the same factory that gave us the Bluesmobile Monacos, nowadays even the Challengers Canadian.
No I sold the entire car for 75.00 to some guy and he fixed the engine or replaced it and drove it for several years before it disappeared. It really wasnt a bad car it was just weird looking and the inside was so dated. I think it was a 1986 model but it had lotsf of spunk to be an automatic. When I bought it it had been sitting for five years in someones backyard. I slapped in a battery and some gas and after three or four turns it started right up.

Oh my....my younger brother had one of these cars, poor guy had the biggest chick repellent
in history.

They were cheaper because they were taxed as a contraceptive.

@daniellma What? His face??
boardskins 1 year ago
@boardskins Nope...the car... it was nicknamed the silver bullet.
I think it had the 1.7 liter with an automatic trans...can't remember
the mileage. I had the TC3 (2-door) model and was a dealer demonstrator
1.7 liter with a 4 speed standard, would normally get over 40 mpg on the
highway.
Actually my brother was an all-state wrestler and quite popular, even in
college he just had bad luck with cars.

The pride is back - born in France.
CptTuttle 3 years ago
These cars are as American as the statue of Liberty, meaning they're French.
Ryoku75 2 years ago
Good point.

WRONG!
bearmassaro 2 years ago
Well, whats right? Some were made in French, some were made in America, but they were designed for the French to replace a French car.
Ryoku75 2 years ago
Actually, I believe they were designed by Mitsubishi to replace the dated K-Car line...
