I find myself listening to this over and over...I swear, it sounds better with a dramatic soprano as opposed to the original intention for a tenor soloist. Jessye handles this with such grace and dignity. Those high A's that she floats on the "pleni sunt" phrases are amazingly beautiful. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Stellar performance with great conviction.

Yes it was written for tenor voice as a soloist,but can be eeasily performed for o mezzo and still better for a soprano. The richesse of the piece is largely done by the chorus , that need to have the following voices: Soprano I ;Sopranao II (alto ) ; tenor I , II and bass.It sounds good if the soprano /mezzo/tenor soloist are able to be up over the chorus in the bars 81 -85 - 89 -93 -97 -101 and 105-E Largo).

Jessye Norman is a gorgeous woman with a lush voice. She does the tenor aria justice. I also like this video, as it focuses on some of the individual musicians. This is the best version of Sanctus on youtube.
