the US provides 2.7 billion in military aid, all of which must by law be spent on US made wepons , providing jobs to 10000s of US defence industry workers. Israel's GDP last year was 135 billion, mostly from high tech exports, so the cutting of US aid would not hurt very much and many Israelis think it would be a good idea for Israel to refuse further aid. Israel does not require this aid to survive.

I'm pretty much in favor of the US ending military aid to Israel as long as the US also ends military aid to Muslim countries at the same time . . .

Israel has often tried to sell modified US military equipment to China, for example; the US has vetoed this.

If Israel just bought stuff on the open market, it could then do what it wants this way and maybe even earn more in arms trade than it just collects from the US.

No rockets on civilians in Sderot == no attacks on armed men in Gaza.

The Palestinians could stop this bloodshed in one second but they do not want to.

I don't think very many human beings who do not have an air forces would shoot rockets at civilians of another country that does have an air force. This is just not logical. In fact it is very counter intuitive behavior.

If you have not figured it out yet, the rockets are intended to bring Israel into the middle of the Palestinian civil war.

There is a basic conflict between on the one hand the elements in Palestinian society like Fatah that, while not happy to accept Israel, are realistic about and ready to reach a compromise, and those who are incapable, for religious reasons of ever accepting Israels right to exist, regardless of the cost to the Palestinian people in lives and suffering.

The situation is no different this way; Israel has stolen no land.

Israel won this land beating back the Arabs in a defensive war in 1967.

Last I heard, nations that win defensive wars get to dictate the terms of the peace, not the losers that started such a war.

Israel didn't "win" any land, the land was given to them by the British and allies after ww2, Jews even commited terrorist attacks against the British demanding them to leave Palestine, attacks that they even celebrate to this day!! that says a lot about the people currently occupying that land.

Additional land was taken during the six day war, that is ok, what isn't is that after the war Israel continues to take land illegally and call it "settler expansion".

Israel WON this land in The Six Day War; when a nation fights a defensive war, it gets to keep the territory unless you are one of these people that like to make an exception ONLY in the case of Israel . . .

I remember when in Jan. of 1992, surviving members of WWII's "Bomber Command" erected a statue in memory to their late Commanding Officer, Arthur "Bomber" Harris.

As you know, Bomber Command made casualties of 6 mil. German civilians, 10% of those being outright DEATHS.

The German Foreign Minister, along with the mayors of Cologne, Hamburg & DRESDEN all lodged an official protest with the British Government but the statue remains to this day.
