  • I adore this concerto, especially the way it just keeps rollicking along in such a sunny mood. Haydn's happiest moments are just sheer joy. . . reminds me of how, as a college student many years ago, my password for our then-primitive computer system was "papa-haydn-rocks". :-)

  • Haydn sounds like Vivaldi who sounds like Bach. Were they plagiarists? Perhaps. It is a very well known fact that Haydn went to an obscure music shop in Brandenburgen strasse in Vienna and bought 100 sheets of music by Vivaldi. Circa 1756 .Correct me if I am wrong. The arpegios and the fugues and toccatas are very similar. Papa Haydn lived into his 70's while Mozart died at 34. That is what you get for mixing alcohol with musical genious.

  • I hear gut strings and baroque cello.Souds great !

  • Thank you for this;wonderful.

  • ¡Simplemente hermoso!

  • Le jeune Haydn, qui nous explose la période baroque et met les pieds dans le classicisme ! Fantastique!

  • Breathtaking. He stays ahead of the beat, right on the cutting edge, always pushing it forward. Great attack. Relentless phrasing. Fearlessly played. Thank you posting this. Very grateful.

  • Man, I don't understand so much from classical music but I could swear that it was Mozart when I've first heard this. Can someone explain me, why they sound so similar? Who inspired who?

  • @seckin12 It was the style of the period, the classical period, but Haydn was the leading exponent before Mozart really came forth, and yet Mozart in his turn influenced Haydn! Two tremendous geniuses!

  • This is my top favorite cello piece.
