  • The product seems to have all the characteristics needed, by the way does anyone happen to have the blue print of the hydroponic station that is on the video I have a nice space where it would fit perfectly.

  • chopped up upholstery foam, find it anywhere reclaimed furniture cushions work best, american ingenuity reinventing the obvious

  • where can i get some

  • @mdatkinson09 Try Sure To Grow website store locator on the How To Buy page.

  • dry fluff

  • could you use pumice( i hope thats spelled right) When i lived on Okinawa we called it floating rock.I just think in a system like this it would work and it has to have some beneficial side effects of being from a volcano.?

  • @onebigkahuna69 All volcanic rock makes excellent grow media. Pumice is no exception.

  • But… will it blend???

  • i think its funny how everybody is still giving names.

    1. they already named it Sure To Grow

    2. this was made in 2009

    3. thumbs me up so everyone can see.

and this is a great product

  • call it fuck cubes.. that a good name... yeah thats a good name.

  • rootcheese

  • ISn it good to grow WEED? u better answer

  • may be.... hygroton (HYdro-aGRO-crouTON)

  • hydrocubes...good name...!!!

  • call it : hygro... freebie!

  • MATT how's the WEED growing?

  • @Z71Ranger lol

  • Your "Beta testing" some Styrofoam? How is that even possible? That's for software!

  • @muthafuckindevilsson its called sure to grow. its not styrofoam

  • @817ricky82

    *sure to grow

    happy?

  • so you guys chopped up some styrofoam ?

  • how about naming it "shit for suckers" or "super high maintenance and super high prices" or how about "oil absorbant you can get online and 1/10th the price"? or hows' this one? "you cant reuse it, it grows algae beneath the surface due to light zone penetration, not designed for horticulture, i've got a bridge i have for sale cheap if you like STG"? yeah thats a good name. that root structure is typical of any plant in deep water culture. its not because of STG. its just highly oxgenated.

  • HEY PEOPLE, this is an old video, so you can stop suggesting names now. They are selling this "Hail" now. Go check it out on their website.

  • what is the material made of....??

  • @daveisatrini PET, see newer videos, or GO TO THEIR WEBSITE!!

  • Looks like some kind of foam, mattress pad or something like that.

  • Respond to this video... sponge bulb

  • doesnt look like it can be recycled out of harvested crops. Lots of maintenance. doese it break down in soil? Is it toxic? organic?

  • styro-grow

  • Grow-tons

  • sugar cubes

  • rootec cubes

  • "Cubricator" would be funny. Second is "LiveDice" on my mind. What do you think ? And did I get it right ? Please give some mor explanation or links to the subject itself so that one could get into it - since Im new to the whole topic - thx !

  • ICE CUBE LOVE!

  • Here's a few suggestions for names:

Grow Cubes, Magic Cubes, Wonder Media, Super Cube, Hydro Cubes, Grow Cubes,...Here's a std corp. techniques...get some postit notes, gather your key terms...then stick onto a bulletin board and rearrange into word constructs for your naming conventions.

Is this a kitted system? If so, where can I get it? tks

  • Call it HydroFoam

  • I haven't used the crouton sized Sure To Grow yet, but I do use the Sure To Grow 4x8 table mat and I love it.

As a few other people say, this stuff does grow algae as fast, or faster than other media's.

If you can't avoid getting yours wet, you should be using an Enzyme of some sort to combat the Algae. Most peoples first choice is Hygrozyme, and Sensizyme second. Besides getting rid of algae, it will also help your plants by eating excess nutrients, and creating a healthier root zone.

  • Can it be used with an aquaponic system?

  • @dutch1565 great idea

  • its the white cube in the pot is a foam???

  • im going to do this for my hydroponic garden. great work!

    and a name? hmm..root max?

  • @dutch1565 Thanks for the suggestion. I have been thinking the same myself.

  • Can it be resterilized?

  • @Wormy365 YES, BUT PRETTY DIFFICULT.

  • @SureToGrowers SPEAKING IN CAPS SURE IS FUN

  • SUGARCUBES!

  • I'm new to all this. But i can tell you that I already want to steer clear of any plastics as much as possible. I know it's easier/ cheaper to use STG, but the reason I got interested in all this in the first place was to get away from all chemicals that we get in our food.

I would like to have an alternative even for the PVC pipes.

  • @saeidmomtahan We do live in a world of plastics...STG is made from PET. PET is recongnized and approved as the safest food packaging material available. By design and make up PET/STG can have no interaction with your plants or nutrient. it is 100% inert. i have been told by OMRI if STG was not a synthetic, it would be a perfect media for organic crops. Food for thought.

  • @SureToGrowers

Where do you get your info on PET being 100% inert? I have heard that using the same PET water bottle over and over, will release carcinogens into its contents after a while. Specially if get's heated up.

  • @saeidmomtahan thank you for your comments. please check out this site for good information on PET. got to plastics info .org.

  • could you use orbies for filling the netty pots

  • not reusable like hydroton. i'm sticking with hydroton its much better.

  • i think the stirofoam (i dont know how to spell it) puts off chemicals so iwould not want my plants in that. just my opinion

  • @thedankassweed420 STG is made from food grade PET. Very safe and proven.

  • @SureToGrowers Have you thought to try "oasis growing medium" I have found it to be easy and seems it is being used more and more world wide for all kinds of plants, eaten and non.

  • @AlwaysBeamin We make or own version of grow cubes, that we do pretty well with. Oasis is not really popular with the hobbyist grower, its huge with commercial growers, very inexpensive and works well. the hit on it, is that it leaves lots of sediment in the systems and its not durable. its also made with the not nicest of ingredients, if those kind of things bother you. always good to have choices.

  • how does it stand up to Algae!?

  • @blue4uism I tried a couple of these and green stuff is starting to show up on top of them. I'm sticking with Rockwool.

  • @blue4uism STG can grow algae like all other media, but it is also nonwicking. So if you do not get the top area of STG wet, it will not suck up the water to the top on its own, so you therefore can control whether you get algae or not. That is why you rarely see algae on our media in the videos.

  • SHS!snowflakes hydro sterilizer (or)RBS root booster sterilizer

  • SHS!snowflakes hydro sterilizer (or)RBS root booster sterilizer

  • Where do you get that STG?

  • I´m already watching all of your vids to get the most information possible in order to build my own hydroponic-system at home... Here in Germany you wont find nothing!!! The only countries who "know" something about it are Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal (because of Brazil - where hydroponics and aquaponic is sooooo common!) ... What I want to say is: you guys are so lucky to live in a country where people are openminded to new methods. Thank you for all this wonderful advices-namaste

  • @flygloria Thank you for the kind words. STG is getting more available in europe check out mailto:legrowinde@live.fr for more info or contact them.

  • Why dosn't the government just give everyone one of these grow systems... And give the rest of the Excess food to the poor. :P

  • @PawnsMons Amen Brother

  • @PawnsMons Our government doesnt make money giving..

This is NOT expensive, Start your own, Do it year round..It will keep you out of wally world..

Great Video, I am hooked and looking to start soon...........This really works

  • NICE!! great plants you got there..

  • I think you done a great job!!!

  • What size pots are you using and how long is it?

  • @JadedIceBlade the system used 3" net pots, the larger one is a CAP Ebb-12 2.5 gallon. As an aggregate Hail will fill any size pot.

  • thats not areoponics thats hydro bud i saw water where there should be steam

  • pore squares

  • call it sugarcubes and send me a free sample for coming up with an awesome name

  • What do you think of Aeroponics over conventional Hydro? I hear people bitchin and moaning about it and maybe those same people only have experienced Hydro and afraid to try something new? Maybe because I'm a mechanic, I don't see any disadvantages difficulties other that a pump could fail. It just seems such an Efficient setup for fast results. BTW your Products are Bitchin.

  • @VintagedreamcarsV8 We like aeroponics, we have run several AP systems and our growes were always good. GH and Botanicare use it for their systems, so its hard to argue with success. you should check out DWC as well. We have several videos on that method too you might like.

  • has any one noticed all those cuts started in rockwool, not STG cubes? rockwool has grow cubes as well, a pain to clean the first time around compared to hydroton, but cheaper than STG Hail at full price and better than rockwool 4/6 inch cubes in hydroton.

  • miracle cubes

  • How bout Grow Cubes as a name?

  • WAS INTERESTED IN TRYING STG PRODUCT AND PLACED AND PAID FOR MY ORDER (THE SPECIAL FROM THEIR WEB SITE)AND HAVE YET TO RECEIVE MY ORDER.IVE REQUESTED TO EITHER GET MY PRODUCT OR GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK,NEITHER HAS HAPPENED.WORD TO THE WISE IFYOU WANT TO TRY STG DO SO THRU ONE OF THEIR VENDORS

  • Cube-Grow.

  • @SureToGrowers

They look like Toe-foo how about Grow-foo?

  • ewww polymer, i tried something similiar last year and liked how it was soft on the roots but idk if roots like it.

  • call them sugar cubes

  • roots look awful ....a nice healthy root system is white

  • nice, cutting up sponges

  • Name it eco cubes. BUt do you sell these now it been a year since this video has been posted please let me know thanks!

  • name it Crouton Sponge!

  • for a name how about the white cubes

  • do you guys plant ganja?

  • Hi guys....love your videos. Very educational! I am looking at setting up a hobby system to grow veggies and as a teaching exercise to use with my home-schooled kids. I am looking at the Greens 1001 Leaf and Vine Crop system by Cropking. Do you have any experience with this one? I like this FHD Tier 18 system...but haven't seen it anywhere...can you point me to a retailer of this system and do you know the approximate cost? Also..any thoughts on using LED lighting systems to grow? Thanks

  • Looks like packing foam....? please let me know

  • @deano7an7 They wont tell you or theyd lose money, Iv seen this material before, its not uncommon and is super cheap, just dont know the name

  • This isn't quite the topic, but how is that FHD Tier 18 balcony? A friend of mine is thinking of getting one. It's true aeroponic right? Not aeroflow where the roots are misted but also sit in a flow of water?

  • @Painkiller86 We like it and have heard good things from others that have used it. The only down side; it is a real bear to put together.

  • So since it doesn't "hold" the water will a drip system be required when starting a seed in this medium?

  • @digitalPimple Thanks for the question. STG does hold water, it does not wick water. Seed starts are different than growing a plant. Typically for seed starts you just want to keep the media moist, so top misting is the preferred method. Once or twice a day should suffice. Simple touch to test wetness is the way to go and adjust accordingly. If your enviornment is constant, you just need to dial it in, it will work the same everytime.

  • yup sugar cubes thats the sweet spot

  • The new cubes look like classic sugar cubes. Sure to grow Sugar Cubes.

  • do you guys ship outside the USA

  • @yojimbow thank you for your question. We do ship outside the US. It must be in case quantity, but we offer discounting to help offset freight. Please email or call our office for details.

    Cary

  • have you guys thought of using this for carrots the root wouldnt bind to the cubes and I would think you could reuse it then. I will try some of your stuff I am going to start this coming spring

  • @hazegry We recently heard from growers trying onions, carrots and potatoes in Hail. So far so good from each. love to hear from you as well.

  • Beautiful thanks STG, but i wish i could buy the system off you guys and save me all the trouble LMAo XD cheers :D

  • I dont use hydroton i use rockwool and i have done my research on this and dont need to use it!! Im not saying it isnt better im just saying that its not worth the money especially for a commercial grower.. lower the price and i will switch over

  • @dirtball1096 DB, please contact us for commercial grower prices. We may be getting closer.

  • Not worth tha money!!! Been growing for a long time and this stuff is not worth tha money.... sorry guys

  • @dirtball1096 DB, To each its own, a lot of growers we talk to are just not in to all the cleaning and mess of hydroton. They place a high value on that. Hail is is under $40.00 a bag, right around hydroton. Think you will agree, nothin wrong with having more choices. Have you ever tried STG?

  • do you have a vid. thats step by step on how you bilt your little growing hydro?

  • how about naming it Growtons?!?!?

  • Not reusable, that's a deal breaker for me.

Tough to beat the rockwool cube/Hydroton combo, but keep at it, innovation keeps everything fresh.

  • grow cubes

  • sugar cubes

  • "Hidrocubes" would that be a good name :)

  • i am new to hydroponic system.but may i know is there any hydroponic system which do not use electricity.i your illustrations i saw we have to use the pump and all for that we have to use electricity.here in our state the electricity charge per unit is high.i am from india.and one another thing what i have to tell you is that sorry i have no words thanks a lotttttt such beautiful interesting illustrations.please reply me at the earliest.

  • Dont buy it. What i have seen used effectively is just this memory foam (coach or cushion foam) diced and placed in drill holes in Styrofoam holsters or styrofoam driled with holes ands trhe foam placed in the holes as starters works well. No need for these gimmiks that are sold in hydro stores. That said I qam sure there are marginal advantages for using the rockwoll pourous clay etc... but for the price you pay... unless u r growing hydro coke it is probably not worth the expense.

  • @easemailbox Unless you have tried STG, it wont do you much good to assume how it will work in your system. Unlike memory foam, STG was developed as a grow media and has unique qualities for growing. In terms of support, roots grow right through the cubes and form a root ball like a tree and provide good plant support, also cubes hold water, which adds weight for addtional support. Why guess? Try it and let us know what you think

  • Yes its just memory foam. After growing Hyrdo/aero etc in Australia for a 15yrs or more. I now teach in Thailand. I was so suprised 2 c this used so effectively in Thailand Instead of rockwool or the like. I have not used it as a full medium for a grown plant as I do not believe (belief only happy to be prved wrong) it strong enough to support a full size plant unless a suport of some kind was also placed in the pot. (plastic support etc). It works very very well & is common in low economys.

  • where can i buy this

  • Judging by the way it moved with your hand when you pressed down, I'm assuming that you diced up memory foam. Please tell me I'm right because I've been thinking of that idea forever and I've been wondering why no other professional hydroponic shop has marketed that before.

  • Ok I'm sold where do I buy them.

  • Aquadize your mediums with Aqua Dice. With Aqua Dice you will never crap out,

  • Hi, how about aqua dice. Cool vid.

  • GreenEx

  • rockwool has little cubes like this as well, but I alwayse use 4" net pot with a little 2" cube for the seedling, then I fill the net pot with hydronton pellets. The pellets are supose to cover to rockwool, so algea shouldn't grow, if it does then buy this guys product.

  • Hail and several other STG products available in UK and EU at puregrow.co.uk

  • can you make it in black where then can I try some, and I would call it hydrolock or h2o inert substrate.

  • call um sugar cubes, there sweet! lol

but seriously i would like to try it.

    hit me up.

  • call it sugar cubes, there sweet!

lol but seriously i would like to try it.

    hit me up!

  • I live in San Jose, CA. I want to know where I can get that from please tell me!

  • @SureToGrowers yea where could i get it! do you guys sell in calgary alberta

  • Looks like you just cut up a larger brick lol =)

  • @poppabear666 Yes, it is just many small pieces of STG. The key is in the little pieces...... this way the fibers are all aligned randomly, to drain free, and breath better.

    Z

  • call it gro rite or quickgro

  • youve probably already answered this question but, can this new medium support a heavy plant?

  • @focusteam Yes it sure can, take a look at some of the pepper plants that we've grown in 2 gallon buckets.... They're massive

    Z

  • Why all the hate??We support the free market and sell through our loyal retailers. We never understand haters, be happy dude. If you have tried STG and did not like it, let us know. We can talk it out and see if we can help. Not every grower understands STG at first. we came out wiht Hail beicase it is real easy. Try it first, then let us know without the negative waves..

  • Yo, Matt! That looks like pretty nasty algae on the starter cubes,,,

  • That DAMN unit cost 900.00 thats why no price..LOL

  • why no prices on your website?

  • Because we are a manufacturer, and do not sell directly to the public. You can check pricing with your local retailer, or do a shopping search online.

    Z

  • thanks

  • i like footies

  • mahjahblak,

Where have you been? I haven't heard from you in a minute..when you get a chance give me a call with an update and let me know how your homebuild systems are selling. Best of luck.

  • I neglected to say I am using S2G cubes, successfully. S2G 'Grow Nuggets' should be fantastic for anyone using net pots.

  • PF,

Thanks for the vote of support and thanks for the baking soda/flu tip. Just used it and i must say it decreased the duration by about 60%. Pretty miraculous.

  • hey man!nice vid, can i ask what baking soda/flu tip ur talking about??

    peace

  • Recommended dosages for colds and influenza: -During the first day take six doses of half teaspoonful of Baking Soda in glass of cool water, at about two hour intervals

-During the second day take four doses of half teaspoonful of Baking Soda in glass of cool water, at the same intervals

-During the third day take two doses of half teaspoonful of Baking Soda in glass of cool water morning and evening, and thereafter half teaspoonful in glass of cool water each morning until cold is cured

  • Unquestionably the S2G system will work, but there is a much better way..

Notice the roots are mostly tap root in nature. NFT/F&D systems do not promote the ideal root environment.

In the ideal environment, roots hang in a dark chamber and are fogged with nutes 1-3 minutes then off 3 minutes (digestive stage). Repeat 24/7

Roots grown this way have billions of hungry receptor sites= bigger plants/yields in the shortest time.

  • to tell you the truth it looks like a vinyl foam ,kinda like the stuff they use for making swimming pool "noodles"

  • lets call em suckoids lol

  • or just hexahedron. third power could work too

  • or maybe Hail Storm

  • how about: growtons or sure-to-tons

  • wow amazing stuff you have there

  • I would love to try these. I would call them "Qubes". They seem like they would be perfect in ebb and flow and aero.

  • I cant find this stuff in any of the 3 shops near by. I keep asking them and they say contracts are in the works. But when?? How bout a sample? Im dying to throw this stuff in my DWC buckets!! laters

  • Comment removed

  • sure to grow mini cubes or checkers sure to grow cstg

  • I kinda like checkers, i dont know why but its so random that it may just stick in peoples heads.

  • I knooow. I hope I helped you man. I would use this :)

  • my vote is with STG mini cubes

  • i would love to see a diy on how to build a system like that one. is it similar to the dwc?

    give it the name "stg"

could you reuse this stg material after harvest?

that would be godly if it is like a one time buy kind of thing.

  • hey Matt I got a name for ya " The Sure To Grow mini STG cube insert " or 'The Sure To Grow mini monster cube" then you can say some thing like it may be small it packs monstrous results. lol

  • or " The Sure To Grow mini STG pot filler cube' or with or with out the cube part lol

  • Nice!!! It appears we have a real front runner as far as naming the product.

  • I like it, I've been looking for a replacement for hydroton. The cubes worked fine, but I like the chopped up idea better.

  • very nice
