does this dude understand that this is business... not politics? Mackey alienated the whole foods customer base, when you as a CEO are hurting the organization you get fired. period. The average lifespan of CEO's today is 2 years. Mackey is a great CEO, he has incredible vision and i love his relationship oriented style so I would not fire him but it is important that he be reprimanded because in big business you simply do not speak out on political issues. That is just PR 101!!!

I dont think you have read into what Mackey's view actually are... he believes in healthcare and understands that it is a major problem. The only difference between his views and the views of "progressives" (haha) is that he doesnt believe that the gov't can do a good job with it. I agree with this as well but that does not mean that nothing should be done about the problem.

It is the GOVERNMENT that denies people healthcare. It is the private sector that PROVIDES people healthcare.

It is the GOVERNMENT that causes people to suffer.

It is the private sector that alleviates all suffering.

The government is immoral. The private sector is moral.

I just found out about the mess John Mackey has gotten into, and it's nice to finally find someone who did some research to learn the facts. I've been seeing only the protestors' opinions and they all take one line from his article, rip the original meaning out, and use it to make Mr. Mackey look like a bad guy, when if you actually read the article he wrote, he is looking out for the people and ensuring that they still have control over their own health care.

True, the resulting chaos of him being in there for four years will probably serve to wake more up. I often fall into the trap of hating the establishment's marionettes just enough to get a level of gratification out of seeing them fail. I got heavily criticized by some for celebrating when Bush's poll numbers were in the tank 2 years back.
