The problem is Bromely Marks was only considering the short term profit, real capitalists would have let small enclaves in the United States grow and instead of doing a one time harvest they could have humanely (and profitably) allowed the humans to live and have them provide frequent blood donations for both the mutual benefit of the humans and the vampire. Eventually, the human populations would grow large enough to sustain society since vampire population increase = 0% if regulated.
i love this movie, it explained everything . This movie is so reasonable, i like the fact that they turned up side down at the end the story line, its all bout human race at the end. but i still like the vampires , they awesome and much cooler than twilight shit . lol

WTF was the soldiers near the end eating each other? did they want to get cured or were they still hungry, obviously not much biological research was done if they were'nt able to notice the effects of prolonged UV exposure or even get a clue. but it was a good movie way. i did sense a sorta realistic world of futuristic starving vamps.

this was the best depiction of vampires in a film this year. It was semi-true to origional ledgend as far as I am concerned and it was well made with such a low budget.

I just wanted to drop some lines on the human blood / pig blood arguement. In the movie, Edward drinks pig blood. As you can see, he already shows some of the subsiders symptoms. yet, all vampires are reminded not to feast on wild creatures in the forests. why is that so? two theories: (1) Pigs are genetically compatible to mankind. we have 90% of our genetic sequences in common. (2) most of the wild creatures are already vampire-infested /mutated. Feasting on (part-)vampires didnt work well..^^

The scene where their eyes lit up in the dark subway was my favorite scene. Not the greatest movie but it was still pretty good and the premise was VERY unique. I normally hate vampire movies.

okay, i have a major hole in this story: if they can survive on pigs blood, why on gods earth are they not breeding pigs and harvesting them i do not know, because the gestation period is short. i find it difficult to believe that after around 10 years or whatever it was in the movie they are running out of pigs blood, do you KNOW how many pigs there on on the planet? :|
Well we're not talking about pigs; we're talking about humans. You forgot that almost all the humans on the planet have turned into vampires. the very few remaining left are used to sustain a large population of vampires. its like box of 20 pieces of chicken, but there's about 60 people to feed. the chicken is going to eventually run out. duh. in the movie it states that vampires can only drink human blood, and if they drink anything else they will die, literally exploding.
if you actually WATCHED the movie you would see that the main protagonist (edward) only drinks pigs blood, and hes alive years later. he says he hasnt touched human blood once. and pigs breed quickly, and there are a LOT of them on the planet, possibly amounting to the same as the number of humans who are now vampires, and pigs have litters of around average 6. trust me, it would work but obviously it makes a better story otherwise.
If you watched the movie, you would have seen that Edward wasn't in perfect health at all. After 10 years of drinking pigs blood, he was starting to show the same symptons as vampire who either drink their own blood or no blood at all.

They were desperate the ratio of vampires being turned overwhelmed that of the number of pigs being prepared for harvesting. And do you think that everybody led a calm and human like nightlife? They even said in the movie that most mamals were already vampire-like.
@wimpie25 Obviously at the beginning they went mad, but after several years when the story is set they had organised. Pigs have a short gestation period. It just seems kinda obvious to me the different alternatives to just desperatly hunting humans. If they had been as sensible as they appeared, there wouldn't have been a problem, and that makes me think there are a load of plotholes in this story.
instead of harvesting them all at once, why don't each vampire have one human to themselves, and get a small amount each day, enough to keep their urges down, and enough for the human to still run properly?

Some can get weakened by daylight of their powers to become ordinary human beings and some are fine to walk in the daylight like Dracula for example or Egyptian vampires. Not all vampires drink blood, there is a type of vampire called Psi-vampires a.k.a. Psychic-vampires or energy vampires which they suck your soul/youth/energy/lifeforce out instead.
I thought it captured the essense of the blood thirsty world they were trying to project brilliently.
I think the way in which the characters responded to the events in the film were eerily accurate, in doing anything to keep yourself alive and how ruthless and cruel people can be.

I seriously find it stupid, why can't they just nurture the humans and let them you know....BREED, MAKE BABIES, HAVE SEX?! Like seriously they will produce babies and the human population wouldn't become extinct. Then just have the humans come in on a timed basis to ensure a constant supply of blood but at the same time manage the health of the human donors and keep them alive for a long time.
I don't want to spoil but the last solution was perfect if anyone was willing to kool down and go w/ it

if you have a pregnant woman, and want a health baby you can harvest. taking blood from that woman wouldn't be a good idea so you just reduced the livestock for 9 months by however many women are pregnant. and babies are not a significant source of daily nutrients.

@painterofemotions It is meant to be a parallel of our own economy, we take and take and take without giving the need to replenish in order to meet supply in demand, thinking that whatever we are taking will never run out. Like in the hypothetical: if cattle were being turned into burgers too quickly, most people wouldn't care so long as they got their burgers.

okay, i have a major hole in this story: if they can survive on pigs blood, why on gods earth are they not breeding pigs and harvesting them i do not know, because the gestation period is short. i find it difficult to believe that after around 10 years or whatever it was in the movie they are running out of pigs blood, do you KNOW how many pigs there on on the planet? :|

Well we're not talking about pigs; we're talking about humans. You forgot that almost all the humans on the planet have turned into vampires. the very few remaining left are used to sustain a large population of vampires. its like box of 20 pieces of chicken, but there's about 60 people to feed. the chicken is going to eventually run out. duh. in the movie it states that vampires can only drink human blood, and if they drink anything else they will die, literally exploding.

no...i dont think you thought this through.
if you actually WATCHED the movie you would see that the main protagonist (edward) only drinks pigs blood, and hes alive years later. he says he hasnt touched human blood once. and pigs breed quickly, and there are a LOT of them on the planet, possibly amounting to the same as the number of humans who are now vampires, and pigs have litters of around average 6. trust me, it would work but obviously it makes a better story otherwise.

If you watched the movie, you would have seen that Edward wasn't in perfect health at all. After 10 years of drinking pigs blood, he was starting to show the same symptons as vampire who either drink their own blood or no blood at all.

@wimpie25 They could have made a hybrid mixture of pig/human blood, or rationed the human blood from the beginning? and in the movie his brother said "they're even running out of that pigs blood you drink" - this doesnt make sense at all...they presumably arent stupid, and would have started harvesting the pigs for the 'vegetarians', just as they do now to make pork?

They were desperate the ratio of vampires being turned overwhelmed that of the number of pigs being prepared for harvesting. And do you think that everybody led a calm and human like nightlife? They even said in the movie that most mamals were already vampire-like.

@wimpie25 Obviously at the beginning they went mad, but after several years when the story is set they had organised. Pigs have a short gestation period. It just seems kinda obvious to me the different alternatives to just desperatly hunting humans. If they had been as sensible as they appeared, there wouldn't have been a problem, and that makes me think there are a load of plotholes in this story.

No Silver can kill vampires too, but NOT all vampires burn in the sunlight like in hollywood movies, i'm a true vampire expert. Some can get weakened by daylight of their powers to become ordinary human beings and some are fine to walk in the daylight like Dracula for example or Egyptian vampires. Not all vampires drink blood, there is a type of vampire called Psi-vampires a.k.a. Psychic-vampires or energy vampires which they suck your soul/youth/energy/lifeforce out instead.

I actually really liked this film.
I thought it captured the essense of the blood thirsty world they were trying to project brilliently.
I think the way in which the characters responded to the events in the film were eerily accurate, in doing anything to keep yourself alive and how ruthless and cruel people can be.

@DropkickMurphys12 LoL Edward is a pansy. Totally agree with you here. Daybreakers (or is it Day Breakers?) and 30 Days of Night are like the only "real" vampire movies that portray that killing, creature type of characteristic. That's what makes vampire's different from humans.

that is why I made the Resident Evil reference, and yes I know its a piece of crap, I saw the reviews. I think the IGN guy forced to play it, asked his bosses if he HAD to finish the game. Unfortunately for him, his job required it. That is how much it sucked according to him.
Dude I was referring to a game DONE RIGHT.
One thing Vampire Rain gets right though is the LOOK; in the original Romanian folk tales, a vampire was a blood drinking cadaver, they were much scarier.
