  • K.D. owns this song! Thank God she shares the gift of her voice to us!

  • Faszinierender Song!

  • Oh my, WOW...... (she never seems to wear shoes when she sings that song. Awesome.....

    Hoy!)

  • Definition of emotion

  • KD Lang's cover *soars* like no other. :)

  • She is a true artist

  • An angel of God sings Hallelujah!

  • I don't know or care if you're a lesbian, k.d. I love you. I love your voice. I love how your voice breaks on "hallelujah" and then gets soft and vibrato like an aria again. Thank you for sharing the pain and joy.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written and K D Lang does it justice. Beautiful!

  • This singer and her rendition of this song rips at my heart and I will never tire of listening to her voice. I just love her so much. She is a beautiful human being, that's all that matters. Hope she is happy and enjoying her life.

  • You take my breath away.

  • I've watched this a hundred times already and her performance STILL brings tears to my eyes!!!

  • beautiful voice, beautiful song.

  • Chills...

  • @MrTcork and YOU Sir will not be winning any spelling bees......beauty has an A in it.

  • I'm not a lesbian but...

  • k.d., you break my heart every time I hear this.

  • PURE perfection!

  • 1:50 2:10 Strings add greatly to the emotional pull. Gently great.

  • This is my third time listening. I'm having a hard time stopping.

  • I watch this video more than any other! EVER! I watch it and cry. I watch it in awe. I watch it and laugh. I watch it with gratitude and love~~

  • Could you imagine having been there? To have been so fortunate to hear that voice echo through those halls. Incredible!!

  • Unbelievably incredible. Love it more each time I hear it. This is absolutely the best version of this beautiful song. What a talent she has......her voice is like a musical instrument from God.

  • Who are the people who say not enough emotion, seriously. Most covered song in history and kd lang DOES show the most emotion. Doesn't get any better.

  • The prophet - Leonard; who wouldn't wish to spend an evening coffee with him........being fed with profound thoughts....ed

    w w w eddy nu

  • I think k.d. is very underrated.... She even said in an interview that she's a one hit wonder (Constant Craving, 1992) -- but yet, she has put out a retrospective CD set entitled Recollection, which features 20 tracks and 2 newly recorded songs...

  • You all need to stop contradicting and judging k.d. lang because she has masculine features...It does not matter... you are all just idiots if you think that this is unnatural! Listen to her voice and in fact, her name is kathryn dawn (kd) lang.....

  • Performed as near to perfection as is humanly possible. What a gift, thank you.

  • she sings the best most heartfelt version of this sublimely beautiful piece of poetic refrain. superb. none more may sing it henceforth :))

  • Absolute Heaven ♥

  • Absolutely stunning.

  • soulfull, she's magnificent really

  • Is she under-rated? I don't think she's under-rated by anyone with any real taste in music...

  • @Pabberzzz, of course, taste in music is very subjective, but the fact that k.d. lang was chosen to sing this haunting song TO Leonard Cohen as he was being inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, says that people more knowledgeable then you or I made that choice. @Harlzaaa, that "dude" is the man who wrote the song, Leonard Cohen, and given that he was bowing to k.d., and kissing her hands tells a different story.

  • @HARLZAAAA that dude is Leonard Cohen. The person who originialy made this song

  • She is amazing but I do believe that it is personal taste and my mom introduced me to her. Her voice rough and gorgeous!!!!

  • This is proof God has many creations..............this is angelic

  • Brava!

  • @lodengreeneyes You are a moron

  • @natfur1 Why?

  • annoying voice

  • I love you KD Lang! Cheers from Nova Scotia ~ Absolutely Divine! And with Leonard Cohen there just could not get better! I think I would be levitating!

  • I love you KD Lang! Cheers from Nova Scotia ~

  • @MrTcork k.d Lang is a woman and is a lesbian so if you have something against that please keep it to yourself and have some respect for a true artist.

  • Brava.

  • i personally, dont this cover, i feel the song is not meant to be sung like, this leonard cohen and jeff buckley understand this song i dont think she does

  • @MrTcork snert....who cares what you think

  • @MrTcork Who cares about beauty contests mr shallow

  • @MrTcork what an ignorant remark, did you arrive at this site to listen to music? This version of this song is one of the most moving pieces ever, and you decide to reduce your experience to your inability to find something positive to say.

  • The dude at 5:17 didn't seem too impressed.. :/

  • @HARLZAAAA that dude at 5:17 is Leonard Cohen, the man who wrote this song

  • you see that dislike bar over there??

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    yeah me either.

  • Listening to this will make any bad day go away and a smile overcome my face. The simple things in life mean a lot more.

  • Just beautiful! She has an awesome reverence & appreciation for what she is singing. She did Leonard Cohen & everyone, proud to hear her. She is deserving of the praise she receives for her achievements! Bravo!

  • THAT'S A CHICK!!!!!!! WHAT

  • I don't know why i have never heard her before cause she is dammmm good:)

  • I have heard better versions. This was good.

  • @buckleygeneration and i suppose that better version would be Tim Buckley's?

  • @rainspirit100 Unfortunately, Tim Buckley never covered Hallelujah. Jeff Buckley did, though. And yes, his cover is better.

  • Beautiful! Gave me goosebumps!

  • it´s breathtaking. thank you so much for this music!!!!!

  • my vag is all tingly now

  • Im gay

  • @Mitchnagel58 your point being?

  • One of the last songs my mom and I shared. My son and she had worked out the arpeggios on his guitar and he played and sang it for her while she was in acoma. I am sure it was one of her most treasured gifts. Thank Leonard and K D for the magic

  • This so SO beautiful! Thanks for sharing Wil:)

  • Best version ever <3 . I always comment on videos, saying "how could you dislike this?!" but disliking this video has just crossed the line. You four people must have mistaken the dislike button for "Dis, I Like"

  • ...thats... a chick!? TF!?

  • @TheBlueMystic Grow up. It's about the song.

  • My favorite version of this song.

  • @terransage - My favorite too, of so many versions recorded!

  • Perfect <3

  • gotta say she taking the whole idea of adding a personal touch too far

  • my top 5 favorites of all time (no order)...

Hallelulah - kd lang (l. cohen)

    One - u2

Like a Rolling Stone - bob dylan

    Imagine - john lennon

Fields of Gold - eva cassidy (sting)

  • Thanks to one and all for NOT bringing up sexuality; this is beautiful and it is time to just enjoy the music, the talent.

  • @jimquantic you just brought up sexuality...

  • @SuCkMyBaLLsBiTch1000 You are right, and that did occur to me. Just the same, the 'thank you" was sincere. More precisely, I was pleased no one had anything ugly along that line to say. Hopefully, neither did I

  • The absolute most under-rated singer on the planet.

  • @IDreamofWW 100 % agreed.

  • @IDreamofWW - You can't be more right about that - amazing

  • @IDreamofWW She is so good, and yet as you say, not known/rated as highly as she should be. The subtle delivery, never "too much", and never not enough--just right, you can tell she believes the words, and then delivers them. Another singer you might like is Tina Arena, you can find her singing "Don't Cry for me Argentina" and although she might not be quite as good, she too comes across as so genuine, and her facial expressions, the authenticity she offers is better than any other I've seen

  • @jimquantic you may not understand the words at all, but the way this guy sings is so amazing, it's unnatural.

type 'Balada de la trompeta Raphael', you won't regret it...

  • @SuCkMyBaLLsBiTch1000 Si, me gusta Espanol, y, la canta elegante. Gracias, Tiago

  • @jimquantic you're welcome. I just thought that good music should be heard by others...

  • @SuCkMyBaLLsBiTch1000 Yes of course and I love any recommendation of the same, which was why I mentioned Tina Arena and "Don't Cry for me Argentina", her face and hand motions, and her delivery spell binding. I did see by the way, the video you recommended, and I liked the way Raphael imitated the horn part so well, as well as his delivery. My own favorite Spanish song is by Rocio Durcal "Como han pasado los anos", also guarantee you will adore, Esther Ofarim "the three song",

  • Fantastic

  • I love her music and her voice! She is the best! Her voice mirrors mine! God has blessed her!

  • her voice just spills out with such meaning, such power, such a beautiful performance, thankyou KD

  • she really "tells" the story huh.

  • goosebumps

  • I've never heard anything like this before!!! Absolutely stunning and brilliant!! k.d. is a very attractive woman I just can't explain it!

  • Beautiful

  • Powerful beautful voice always pitch perfect also you always hear every word she sings. Brilliant.

  • She"s just soooo happy now I think. She earned the right to say if you don't like me that's just too damned bad. I won't sell out, I'll do it my way LOL

  • Saw her live in concert - she shook my son's hand & he thought he'd died & gone to heaven cause he loves her so!

  • why on earth was she never on The L Word? she must have said no when they asked.

  • so much better than the original. but then, she has the effect on a song. her version of Crying was better too.

  • I could listen to KD Lang forever.....

  • so much emotion in her voice!

  • I'm sitting here with goose bumps, tears running down my face, and I'm smiling. Did you guys notice how far she drops the mic when she's really hitting a note with strength? She has to do that or else she'd blow everybody out of the water. What an amazing performance! What an amazing woman!

  • when kd did this at UB Buffalo every body in the place buzzed with goosebumps...then at the end some guys shouts,

"you made the hair on my chest stand on end!" He spoke for everyone - in that place and anywhere else she exhales that gorgeous siren-OM. What a wonderful thing she does with air. <3

  • she looks like a man.. fantastic voice though! 1st time ive heard of KD Lang.

  • Everytime she does this song, it really sends shivers up my spine. It is a thing of beauty, and tenfold when kd does it.

  • Did this guy also sing it at the Vancouver Olympics?

  • I like!!!

  • I like!!!

  • everytime I hear this song - especially from KD Lang - I watch, I hear, I cry ...

    wunderful

  • this song is so awesome I can't fid a better song

  • This is beautiful but the definitive version has to be the one by Jeff Buckley. When Rufus Wainwright recorded this for the Shrek sundtrack, it ws clear that he hadlistened closely to Buckley's version. Here is a link to a live version he recorded. if youre interested, it's on the album Grace. (the only album he released before his death.)

  • Well it won't let me post a youtube link (Odd) but just search for it, you will thank yourself.

  • Check out the whole song..... every verse; some verses are missing here. If every verse would have been sung here then you would know that it has religious overtones or undertones; depending on your perspective. This song is so amazing that it will say different things to different people... it just depends on who you are, your perspective on life, and what you know about God, David, and the Bible. To me it's not so much about religion but it's about Relationship with the One the writer refe

  • Amazing..... I so wish she could have sung every verse of this incredible song. What incredible composure to sing this song and nail it like that in front of Mr. Leonard Cohen himself. K. D. ..... you're awesome and privileged to have been able to do it. WOW!

  • angels would cry if her and myles kennedy sang this song together!

  • She takes my breath away!!! Totally moving!!!! Bravo KD !! Bravo !!!

  • This is the video I've been searching for...thank you.

  • @Waltham1892: Best comment......EVER! :^)

  • Mastery of the art.

  • @mangethegamer maybe in china but not america

  • The absolute highlight of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics was when KD Lang sang this song! Truly, a Canadian icon!

  • How is it possible that she is singing a religious song on tele?

Isn't that like really illegal? o.O

  • @mangethegamer O.o u R so dumb! hows that religious dumb fuck!

  • @nimamiz listen to the lyrics before you start accusing people.

And btw, nobody listens to a troll like you

  • @mangethegamer

this is not a religious song

  • @mangethegamer

this is not a religious song

  • @MadLennyFan ehh, yes it is.

    Just listen to the lyrics

  • @mangethegamer ""I wanted to write something in the tradition of the hallelujah choruses but from a different point of view... It's the notion that there is no perfection - that this is a broken world and we live with broken hearts and broken lives but still that is no alibi for anything. On the contrary, you have to stand up and say hallelujah under those circumstances." - The Man

  • @Mattagosti Well, he makes it religious by adding religious terms.

"That David played, and it pleased the Lord" HOW IS THAT NOT RELIGIOUS!?

  • @mangethegamer Just because the song mentions a religious topic does not make it religious. By your reasoning because you are mentioning religion, you are a religious person. I even quoted the man who wrote the song, I got nothing more to show you. I understand that you are an adolescent who, I hope is just trolling, because if you really cannot tell the difference than I pity you.

  • @mangethegamer

    whatever -

  • No matter how many times I hear

K.D. sing "Hallelujah" ~ it takes my breath away.

    Her almost painfully, exquisite voice

gets in all the cracks in your soul

and then soars above it all.

    .

  • @Giavannanow Have been struggling with how to describe this voice and along comes someone who says it exactly how I feel it. Thank you for putting words to how I feel when I hear this wonderful woman sing this.

  • @sapphire60s

Then we are kindred souls in joy.

    .

  • @Giavannanow I go further and say, anyone of the many versions of this song are all haunting. It's the melody and the lyrics that are simply breathtaking.

  • @Giavannanow I go further and say that all versions of this song are hauntingly beautiful. It's the melody and lyrics....Cohen, Buckley, Wainwright, Crowe, the four Norwegian men, etc. :D

  • @Giavannanow I go further and say that all versions of this song are hauntingly beautiful. It's the melody and lyrics....Cohen, Buckley, Wainwright, Crowe, the four Norwegian men, etc. This song just makes me shiver....:D

  • @Giavannanow On Youtube she can take our breath away...can you even imagine what it was like to be in that hall that night? Must have been like a little bit of Heaven.

  • @ReasonsItrust

    IF given that opportunity

I would bow in humble gratitude

    to K.D.

    as she did at 5:32

to the great artist Leonard Cohen!

    .

  • @Giavannanow Yes, they both seem quite humble., and are for sure amazingly talented.

  • @Giavannanow Yes, yes, yes, so true..........

  • Divine. Hallelujah!

  • Showing her respect for Cohen, is just another example of her beautiful soul. You, bet she owns that song.

  • Leonard Cohen might have written this beautiful song, but k.d. OWNS it. I would bet even Cohen would completely agree. He is a master of words but she is a master of interpretation. I am in complete awe every time I hear this.

  • @specialfx35 I agree. Did you know that it took Leonard Cohen more then 5 years to write the song!

  • @brianable Its worth every minute he took....

  • @brianable I actually did not know that. I can believe it though considering the number of verses he wrote. Interesting how each artist picks out only certain versions to do. Who knows, maybe it still isn't finished. He probably just keeps adding to it. Wish someone(k.d.) would do the whole thing though.

  • @specialfx35 Good point - and I hope it is also never finished! Wouldn't it be more interesting to hear more verses coming out of the woodwork over a period of time - of course all written by Leonard Cohen - but we will (probably in our lifetime) never hear the entire piece. I wonder if Don McLean's 'Vincent' was also really complete?... even though it is considerably longer than 'Hallelujah' ... need to know if he kept some verses hidden from view?

  • I was with her all the way through. Captivating!

  • The best performance I have seen. Wonderful. --

  • so beautiful...so beautiful..

  • I am in love with her voice. A true talent and an incredible human being. This is the perfect combination of master songwriter and virtuoso singer.

  • Awesome.

  • Leondard Cohen wrote this beautiful song and K. D. Lang owns it. This is beautiful and she shows how gracious and sincere she is at the end with her unspoken thank you to Mr. Cohen.

  • The best thing I have ever seen sung. When she stops you can see how happy she is with her performance of that song, on that stage, on that occasion, for and in front of that man - her performance is a thing of such elemental beauty and seeming perfection, it's hard to believe it actually happened - bravo

  • She's got more talent than 90% of the singers in the world added together...yet she's never, ever is anything but humble. She's a great lady...very great lady.

  • @JayJayhope AMEN!

  • @JayJayhope So true. kd is superb. I'll bet Len is very proud of her take. She has surpassed John Cale's amazing version.

  • @JayJayhope I could not have said it any better, great comment.

  • @BigRabbie100 (Using my wife's account name) Thanks...we are always amazed at her talent and humility...She should be rated #1 everywhere.

  • The look on Leonard Cohen face at the end of k.d. lang's performance... PRICELESS

  • You could tell how moved Cohen was by her version of his song. He and his partner Anjani Thomas later referred to this version as Hallelujah's "ultimate blissful state of perfection." I really love Cale and Buckley's version of this song as well. The fact there have been so many wonderful covers shows what a great song it is.
