My point is that yes there are innocent civilians but which ones are innocent is hard to determine; especially in a foreign and semi-hostile land. A moments hesitation could be death, a small child who sprints toward you in an instant might carry, strapped to his/her body, a bomb. So do you shoot or wait?
Basically it’s all saying our freedom is not free without those willing to fight for it and a civilian who won’t listen and continues his or her approach is a threat. Still besides the idea that it was all started for oil control every war we fight is either to combat communism or secure our allies. Who intern keeps us safe politically in the world. I mean look at it this way…If we sat back on everything we would just be a huge target with no outside defenses.

Where Limbaugh goes wrong is in WW2 America bombed German and Japanese civilian targets in Germany and Japan, not in France or Russia or any Pacific Islands... Afghanistan is the liberation target, not the enemy target so his point is absolutely insane.
As far as the civilian casualities go - yes they are horribly unfortunate but considering how far the military goes to avoid them I think they should get some slack - not much mind you, but some. There's friendly fire by/on the military too

Mr. Uygur. I'm not a Rush supporter, but the point he's making is... the US is running its operations in a surgical strike mode. Total war is unacceptable. The civilians that are harm and killed are far less than the classical carpet bombing this nation has done historically. Does this suck, yes. The sovereignty of our nation isn't challenged by US military actions; Terrorist operate in spite of the rule of law. Are US actions in any of this justified; until the President says 'stop'.

The worst of it is that the war was against the Taliban and al Qaeda - they were routed in about 3 weeks, so everything that has been going on in Afghanistan since is America standing in the middle of a civil war from that power vaccuum. If you really care about the 'War on Terror' pull out of Afghan except for border garrisons in Paki frontier and keep up drone strikes on taliban and al Qaeda leadership in Pakistan. That should take roughly 80000 less troops and cost 1/10 of what it does now...

I hate Limbaugh too, but I am pretty sure he was being sarcastic there. It doesn't mean it made what he said any less exceedingly poor taste, or that I don't disagree with him. But I don't think he meant "It was better in the good old days, when we went to war to kill civilians, YEAH BABY!" I think he meant, "So we killed civilians? Tough shit, we've done that before, too!" There are valid reasons to attack that asshole's opinion, but misrepresenting the sarcasm is the least of them.

I'd say rush is an idiot entirely but as for innocent civilians; I have friends who have served and are still serving in the armed forces. From what I've read, researched and heard it isn't too usual of an occurrence for troops to accidently kill civilians. I mean it's bad yes, can it be avoided? Depends… Such as if my friend just days before was blown to bits by a child he saved then it's safe to say even the children will and must be held to the same standard as an adult threat. Sad yes

Also let’s remember folks that we don't wake up to gunfire or mortars in our daily lives. We also don't drive to our jobs and homes wondering if there is a road-side bomb waiting for us on the off ramp. Now I do not excuse Limbaugh or the death of civilians but in a situation like the one our troops were and are in, you have to do what ever possible to keep you and your team alive. So if a man walks up toward your squad with a cellular phone he is a threat. A kid with a toy gun is a threat.

Cellular devices can trigger bombs; a toy gun could be a modified gun. My point is that yes there are innocent civilians but which ones are innocent is hard to determine; especially in a foreign and semi-hostile land. A moments hesitation could be death, a small child who sprints toward you in an instant might carry, strapped to his/her body, a bomb. So do you shoot or wait?
