I have tongs of question about my new 2 month old ferret, can I stop using that dry food that contains God knows what in it for anything Organic, I don't whant my ferret to die from some dangerous diseases from so call big corp dry food and government control vaccinations.
Great ferret videos. I love how you're so knowledgeable and passionate about your ferrets, it's the same way I am with rabbits. Keep up the good work and educate everyone :)
I know alot of people on youtube and in my school say that if your ferret is being bad then hit their noses or scruff them. Thats really bad because when ever you have to clean ears, take a bath,it's hurt, brush teeth and you scruff them then they will think that their in trouble. Then hiting their noses is very bad because people woudn't like it if your mom hit your noses so dont do it plus its very damaging and bad for their natural instincs with is smelling EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! .
method that works for me is to scruff-pin them. (so they're laying on their side, neck to the ground). of course, never put any pressure on their neck/body, you're just holding the skin to the floor. but at the same time hold firm as the hyper ones may struggle at first. always say (only) "NO", like you mean it, and point at their face while you do it. don't immediately reward them by petting, sweet talk, etc. just leave the play area for a minute or 2, or make yourself unaccessible.
Me and my friend each have a ferret both different genders. They keep biting each other (mostly on the neck and tail) and we don't know what they are doing. Please reply if you know or think you know (:
I want a ferret, so i have been watching your videos for information. I think your ferrets are awesome, and i want a ferret just like yours. I want to be able to go to a pet shop and say i want ______ color ferret. What color is Percy?
oh my god ;3 i want a Ferret sometime in the future, and im learning how to take care of them. Hope i can walk around with him, in a nice transportation bag. Hopefully he will be happy with me =3
just a quick question but do your female ferrets have a less musky smell then your male or visa vrisa lol please tell me im trying to get my mum in to letting my get two ferrets
also nappa seems to hate the colour green. she anihalated the handle on one of my nerf swords (yes i know nerdgasm), and if im wearing green socks she chases my feet and tries to bite them... anyone know if thats normal?
just got 2 ferrets ghost and nappa. both of them are reyt little bastards for biting. started doing the scruff drag thing and first time i did it to ghost she ran straight back up and bit my hand a lil harder three times in a row before i put her in the cage. then i saw this and was like 'ohhhh that makes sense' haha
@TheAlphaFerrets that and a fear problem, i got my ferret from a lady whom saved the parents of my ferret, my ferret is 14 weeks old, but his biting is bad hard and each time he bites its almost like he locks his jaw and he draws blood each time, and i am belivign that my ferret had been hit because he will come up to you and have no problem but once he sees your hand he bites do you know anythig i could do, that would help :(
@rika57bitches First of all, do **NOT** discipline him AT ALL, even the methods on this video! Fear biters are completely different and if you start to discipline him he will just get more scared. How long have you had him? Give him 1-2 weeks to settle in and when he's out playing, just sit with him. Leave him be and watch tv or something. Let him go to you so he won't feel pressured. Once he feels secure around you, pick him up (make sure he sees you doing it so he isn't spooked) .....
@TheAlphaFerrets and hold him for a few seconds and give him some Ferretone and put him down. Repeat this a few times a day, and every week hold him for longer. If he gets uncomfortable, put him down and go back to a shorter time. Don't forget the Ferretone, either! That way, you will start to teach him that your hands bring good things instead of pain. Please let me know if you have any questions. I know someone who takes in fear biters because she loves to help them, and I can get her to help.
@TheAlphaFerrets I have a question and I need it answered asap. I found a lost ferret on the street and tried to look for it's owner but come to find out they moved. So I took her in and she's been wonderful. No biting, playful, everything. I thought she looked kind of lonely, so I went to PetSupermarket and bought another girl. She's been nipping and biting me really hard! She jumps up and attacks me when I'm not even doing anything. OIs this common on the first day home?
@zmingy Sometimes ferrets bite and nip out of fear. for the first few days you should keep them in their cage and let them adjust a little, The second day you should let her out of the cage and let her wander/explore the room a bit. then on the third day you should play with her a little and slowly introduce her to her new life. If she continues to bite Scruff her and instructed in the video. It worked for my ferret (: Hope this helps (:
@angelr728 There are only two or three types of flea meds that are safe for ferrets, but I don't know the dosages so you would need to see a vet for that. You can try washing them in a little bit of Dawn to kill the fleas (rinse them REALLY well after) but it won't prevent them from coming back. Whatever you do, do NOT buy any flea baths or medications without your vet telling you to do so. Flea meds from places like Walmart have killed animals.
@rika57bitches Try to bond with your ferret and play with them, pet them besides the mouth area and...if dat didnt work then ye go wid TheAlphaFerrets loll
i heard that putting milk on your hands helps because if you do it alot they will get into a habit of licking your hands instead of biting, do you think this would work?
@mickeymyhamster I've heard of people doing that with things like Ferretone and other oils, but it never worked for me. Definitely don't use milk, though! Ferrets are lactose intolerant and it will just get them sick. :)
mines not litter trained she kinda is but when I have her out plainy she tends to use the restroom in the conrer of my room so I put her in her cage & close the door she gives me that look but it sometimes works
@111skaterade Hitting their nose will only give them another reason to bite, and they probably only let go because they're in extreme pain, which is never good. Try putting your thumb and pointer finger on each side of their jaw where it hinges and put a bit of pressure and it will wedge their mouth open. When mine didn't let go before they were trained I would lift their jaws like that. Once they're off of you, scruff, drag, and hiss.
@TheAlphaFerrets it only bites when i try to pick it up when im holding it its fine and thanks ill try the jaw thing but scruffing pisses mine off and it tries to bite when i do
@111skaterade Is he/she deaf? Sometimes deaf ferrets get scared when they're picked up without warning as they can't hear you coming. Ferrets are JUST like toddlers, meaning that when you scruff him, that means you just told him "no!", so he's going to continue to try and push your limits until he gets it in his head that you won't let him cross the lines. You just need to be more persistant than he is!
@Synukoo For the most part they are just distracted by the "black box" (my camera, haha) and only have one goal. After I hold them for a bit they start to get irritated though. I've learned that as long as you keep your hand moving it typically will keep them interested enough to sit still for a bit.
I've tried all the methods you spoke of.I don't flick the nose anymore and even when I did it wasn't very hard.the methods I use now is scruffing with a his, pinching the ear but not with your nails, and time out when they are really bad and make me bleed.differn't things work for different ferrets each ferret has a different personality.the most important thing is patience.
I love my ferrets very much and they seem to love me too.they cuddle and snuggle and give me nose kisses.
Oh, and was wondering...In a couple of months our family will be taking a road trip, lasting about 7 hours. We have never traveled with our ferrets before, when you have time, can you make a video about how to travel and travel safely with your ferrets? I've looked at some videos posted here on you tube, but none were very informative or specific.
@ALASKASnowBaby Yes, I will definitely work on that! I'm so sorry for the late reply... I didn't get a notification for the comments on this video and just happened to be watching it and now I see what I've missed! :(
Great Video!! Completely agree with you!! We tried the bitter apple stuff, and it didn't work for our ferrets either. We just got our little girl, "China Doll", about a month ago, and she liked to nip and bite. We used the scruff and hiss method, and it didn't take her long before she got it.
I've found time out works really well. I also use scruffing, but I've not tried hissing. Hissing may work for one of mine, but my littlest one is deaf so hissing won't work for him. Keep making good videos.
ok thank u

ferretsrawesome19 1 week ago
@ferretsrawesome19 Not really. Playful bites aren't that painful, especially after you teach them your limits. Fear biting is pretty painful, though.
