Great routine encompassed everything. I love this sport! Been a bb for 10 years competing for 3 and one day of this kicked my ass! True athleticism here!
why are all the haters who hate crossfit coming on youtube to watch crossfit vids? don't love to hate, love to love baby! its all good. I mean, watch the vids if you want to appreciate someone else's style or pick up some things, but why hate? does someone else's different opinion on how to do a deadlift or pullup affect you in any real way? don't think so.
Why does everyone get so angry about crossfit. It is a style of training. Like all things crossfit is excellent in moderation but can cause problems in excess. Working out with proper form is paramount most of the time but occasionally it is productive to push your self past your comfort zone and just go all out. A WOD is like going for a personal best it just integrates elements of endurance and body weight training into the fold.
@Moggs24 people get angry about crossfit because the MAJORITY of the practitioners are smug and douchey about their workout, as if it is the only way to develop functional strength and conditioning. as if it invented olympic lifting. and also because they call them "pull ups" when they are clearly something else
I can't stand this elitist wannabe bullshit...oh what...he has a shoulder injury or something? wonder how that happened! Great rounding of the back for the sake of saying you can do this workout. why don't you fucks watch someone like Kara Bohigian do some work so you can get your form better, from a Girl! But fuck who cares about form with crossshit, it's all about being macho and a warrior and getting the numbers so your dick or clit can get hard...fucks..
@spankaveli I'm not mad I'm smart. Been a trainer for 15 years. I know physiology and I'm not trying to feel macho by doing a bunch of dumb shit because "the marines do it!" So fuck off with your glorified circuit training. Big fucking deal.
@TheSuperAgnosticOne You're so damn ignorant man, unbelievable....... if crossfit is about being a macho retard, then why dont you see these guys spraying on tans and flexing on stage in front of a bunch of dudes? You've mixed up your sports buddy...... Crossfit is about focusing on every aspect of fitness, post a video of yourself doing this workout if its so shitty and then I'll stop talking... Also I'm a certified trainer myself so please save your expertise bullshit.....
@maiolo6 I actually think you are both ignorant. No one cares if your a certified trainer or how long you have been a trainer. The fact of the matter is that TheSuperAgnosticOne has a spot on point in the face that Xfitters display just as much macho bs as body builders they just display it in different ways. T-Nation.com article on crossfit is the best article I have ever read on xfit. Summary: If you want to be good at a lot of things but great at nothing...do crossfit.
@x35goahs1 haha T-nation is a BODY BUILDING website. You can't judge X-fit because of one article that knocks it, that makes YOU the ignorant one. I'm not saying one is right or wrong, I do both! X-fit for function, bodybuilding for physique. One sport is built around Vanity, the other is about Fitness. You've never tried X-fit and I doubt your ignorant ass ever will. I'm just saying try it, rather than arguing with me on here, go and attempt a Crossfit workout, read up on it, and then judge it
@maiolo6 No..It's a training website for all people that train. I judge crossfit because of my knowledge of human physiology and what it takes to become elite because I am. Xfit as its own entity i.e. sport...it's just as legit as anything, as a training methodology its less than average at best. I walked into a crossfit competition last month just to prove a point, didn't train for it, got 4th best time, nearly died. Was I impressed?..NO. None of those guys could last 2 seconds in my world
@x35goahs1 you're so full of shit it's unbelievable.... what competition was it I'd really like to look it up? What workout did you do? None of those guys could last 2 seconds in your world? if thats the case, post a video of yourself doing any workout and prove your point. Please, if your world is so great I'd love to see it, and I'll shut up right now.... "Testosterone nation, the intelligent and relentless pursuit of muscle" are you retarded?
@maiolo6 Barbells for Boobs Denver, Work out Grace,Time 3:45, winner got a $500 gift card to Rebok. Yes "my world." A world where athletes train Heavy for a specific purpose Like I said, not one person in that comp could hang with me going this heavy for that many sets. Yeah the "relentless pursuit of muscle" I forgot thats not what you xfitters go for, average physiques with average athlticism..."Xfit, the relentless pursuit of the average"
@x35goahs1 This is a stupid argument, neither of us are going to convince one another of whats right and wrong. I lift heavy. I do body building routines, I like having a good physique. BUT crossfit brought my athleticism to another level, and improved my hypertrophy training in the process. Also, that so called video of you, uploaded by another user? and it appears to be a crossfit gym even, what the hell is that? and why are you even looking up crossfit videos if bodybuildings your thing?
@maiolo6 Yup that other user being my coach...the guy standing behind me. And yes my sponsor is a certified Xfit gym. What can I say I'm a sell out, they let me train there with my coach for free. I'm also not a body builder. Body builders don't do olympic style front squats. I eat like a body builder and take the same strict detailed approach to my own training but maximal hypertrophy is not my goal, I'm an athlete.
@x35goahs1 what sport is that exactly? It's funny, you and I pretty much train the same way. I don't do specific Crossfit, Crossfit is a brand name. but I have taken some principles of Crossfit and applied it to my own regimen (i.e. Olympic style lifting, and short intense workouts like grace) but I have also incorporated bodybuilding for my physique. However, to say they have average physiques and are average athletes is crazy, the shit those guys pull off at the crossfit games is insane
@blove1586 They are made of coated rubber and are known as bumper plates. Normally they are coloured coded to indicate their weight but they can also be a single coloured regardless of weight (making it more difficult to gauge the lifted weight).
After reading through most of the comments people need to get one thing straight. Olympic lifters are good at olympic lilifting because that's what they focus on. Runners such as track athletes, marathon runners, ultra runners and more are good at running because that's what focus on. Crossfit athletes are good at crossfit because thats what they focus on. Crossfit specializes in not specializing. They work in all areas of fitness. Run, swim, bike, powerlifting, olympiclifting, gymnastics, etc.
I remember thinking "Man I wonder if Navy seals could benefit from this?" Then a few months later I got certified and find out Josh Everett is (or was, dont remember all the way) a PT director for Navy Seals haha. Figures
You all do realize josh everett used to or still is USC's football strength and conditioning coordinator, I think this applies to more than just wrestling there is also crossfit football. Also the reason they aren't cause he is a crossfit king and are seeing how fast he is at this workout and timing him. They all work out as well that are watching him.
If I'm gonna be perfectly honest the only sport I've seen crossfit be directly beneficial for is wrestling. It promotes general physical conditioning, mindset, a bit of strength training etc etc. For other sports it just makes sense to practice what the sport entails.
But my question is why are there so many people around him watching him working out instead of working out themselves?
Why bash him? Year there are assholes in local gyms who brag about doing crossfit..but then again there are also assholes who don't do crossfit at all..and then proceed to do everything with absolute shit form and ROM..this guy's doing a pretty tough workout here, and you should respect him for that
I don't understand the huge fuss here.... Josh posted a nice time on "King Kong" never in the did he claim to be the world fittest man nor did he say he was breaking world records... He performed at an outstanding level and for most of you here who armchair quarterback this put your own "amazing" athletic capabilities up here for people to pick apart. Josh, HELL OF JOB! As a fellow crossfitter I envy your talent.
That's one fit dude. I'm an athlete (205 bowling average), and I've been lifting remote controls and beer bottles for the last 23 years and I wouldn't even attempt something like that. I don't know why so many have negative things to say. This is truly amazing. Very few people in the world can pull something like that off.
@freedomsoldier187 David Morgan is a highly decorated Olympic Lifter from the UK, so no surprise there. Gotta give credit to Josh though, he's a beast and he can do a lot more than just olympic lifting.
I believe he's at UC Santa Barbara. In the movie Every Second Counts he shows a big board of wods and says that the athletes compete to best their teammates at each one. I doubt that's the only training he has them do though. While Fran is great and extremely exhausting, only doing that for the day at a D1 school would put them way behind. This is coming from an avid crossfitter btw so don't jump on me about how Fran is the Queen of workouts:)
I've been competing in US Sumo wrestling one year now, Crossfitting since Sept. Obviously Crossfit does not cater to sumo in any way shape or form, but you can't argue with results... This year I intend to place at US Nationals.
whatever the shit talking on here....this guy can deadlift the same or even more then most powerlifters, he can do OLY lift the same or better then most olympic lifters...he can run or sprint equal or better then most runners and sprinters etc etc...the only difference, is that he can do all of those things, while a sprinter can only sprint, a runner can only run, a powerlifter can only deadlift, squat, bench, and a OLY lifter can only OLY lift...
@chublancsti you clearly don't know a lot. Everetts best C&J is 160kg, kendrick farris (who is the same weight) can lift 211kg in training. His best 400m is 50s, not even top of high school grade, let alone better than olympic standard runners. Crossfit is a great way to achieve high levels of GPP, but crossfitters tend to be jack of all trades, master of none.
@chublancsti You are the definition of a crossfiter who has no concept of reality. He can lift more than power lifters??? How much do you think power lifts dead lift dude? He can do Olympic lifts better than most olympic lifters?? He can run better than most sprinters? Are you outside of your mind?? If he could do any of those things better than those athletes he would be on an Olympic platform or an Olympic track not a two cent broken warehouse someone turned into a cross fit center.
what did I say he was better then PROFESSIONAL powerlifter, oly lifet, sprinter? I meant average, look youtube videos for deadlift and powerclean or clean and jerk @ 200ish lbs bodyweight and youll see i'm right and by the way I dont do crossfit
oh and you know what, i dont give a shit about your opinion, and mine, you see i'm just like you, I go on youtube and post useless comments to look interesting and make some imaginary friends, and yeah i like to say i deadlift 700 at 12 years old too...
@chublancsti unfortunately there are 16 yro oly lifters in his weight class outlifting him, and there are top lifters in the 145 class for powerlifting who have higher deads. and sprinting? theres no way hes going to touch the times for even a college sprinter.
@ngrooms5157 UC means University of California, yet he didn't specify a school or team, so he was probably talking out his ass. As far as general physical preparedness, this is what i take from it. I don't play sports anymore, but I still like to stay in good shape with intense workouts. Crossfit is great in this sense. Maybe I'm not training with DI or NFL strength coaches, but if some friends wants to play some pickup basketball or football, I'm confident I am in good enough shape to play well
@ngrooms5157 you know your absolutely correct, i wouldnt do xfit at a local gym, I go to a xfit gym. i did alot of olympic lifts and gymnastics in highschool which was in the 80s, so when xfit came along I was very interested. Your right about some individuals not knowing proper technique, and xfitters at local gyms are really annoying. Do i agree a 30 year old man that never did ring training his whole life just pick it up in one day? no, I do it because I can
@ngrooms5157 I can see what your saying about getting sloppy as he goes along (in the squat cleans) but don't all the sports you mentioned use explosive movment? And this is Crossfit"s most hardcore workout, not something these guys do everyday.
@ngrooms5157 I can see what your saying about getting sloppy as he goes along (in the squat cleans) but aren't all the sports you mentioned use explosive movment?
After going to 24 hour fitness for 2 years, I tryed crossfit for the first time and puked. Im not going to say crossfit is the best but it fucking works and i garentee you will get a good workout every time.
@ngrooms5157 Alright internet tough guy that's enough... I hear a whole ton of shit and not a lot of actually doing anything. But no, I'm going to believe your strength, physique and athleticism are all better then top tier crossfit athletes. Yeah that's sounds reasonable.... Grow a sack and do a crossfit workout or stop talking about your shitty workout routine.
why don't you all just get a life? he's just doing some bloody exercise and if any of you could form an objective opinion, you would have to say that what he's doing is impressive. it might not be your preferred way of working out, and it may have flaws, but if josh everett (whoever he is when he's at home) wants to do crossfit and put it on the internet, then despite all the arguing on here, he's most likely going to still bloody do it!
@E92MPower c'mon this is a good workout it seems, but im not into interval training or training circuits for time. Seriously tho, 95% of crossfitters got no clue how to clean properly. Im impressed with this guys performance, and im happy that there are people that want to change there lives by loosing weight.
My back ached just watching this felling doing his squat cleans, his muscles ups should not have even counted considering it was all done via body english.
@democratusnostradams - That's called kipping, slick. It's an integral part of CrossFit. Form nazi? Please. You don't know enough to criticize, obviously. Hater.
I've talked shit on here about kipping before. Just started Crossfit, so now I feel silly, and wonderfully sore. It's ok. They can keep their mind-numbing traditional lifting style. I'd rather not sit in a smelly gym for over an hour. 6.5 minutes of a sample WOD for my first intro class. I'm as sore all over as if I'd lifted for hours. It clearly isn't hype.
@ngrooms5157 For someone who seems to despise crossfit, you sure do spend a lot of time talking about it. If you know anything about Crossfit, you would understand that the goal of it was General Physical Preparedness. General. as in not specific. If you want to be a better swimmer, swim more. If you want to be a better snowboarder, snowboard more. Crossfit has never claimed that it will make you an Olympic athlete. I apologize for any crossfiters who have indicated otherwise.
@rks91 I have seen people who never did any kind of athletic activity and have taken up crossfit and it is amazing how it has changed the quality of their lives . I recommend crossfit for those who like a little bit of everything and are sick of the bodybuilding approach that predominates in gyms all over. I agree with you and I think crossfit bring something to the table that has been overlooked for a long time.
@sstslayer I didn't realize that deadlifting 500-750 pounds makes you an Olympic athlete. Nevertheless, would you mind posting a link to this claim? I'm a little bit doubtful, seeing as how even the best crossfitters seem to top out at high 500's (Rob Orlando's 1RM is 600 I believe). Even so, I'm 19 years old and have been crossfitting for less than a year. When I started, I could hardly pull 200lbs. Now I can pull close to 400.. needless to say I was out of shape.
@sstslayer I haven't done any serious strength bias yet (plan on doing so this summer) so its not ridiculous to suggest that I could approach a 500 pound deadlift in 16 months. Easier said than done, of course. I'm also only 5' 11'' and 170 pounds. The point is that these athletes can do some truly impressive things. They are well rounded in all aspects of fitness, . We should just appreciate how hard they train and what they can achieve both physically and mentally... not bicker mindlessly.
@rks91 I think if someone wants to be good at crossfit, train crossfit, that's all it makes you good at. I haven't got anything against people who do crossfit, only the ones that think they know everything about fitness because their crossfit coach said a couple things... Good luck with your lifts, proper strength training can get you to the 500 pounds.
@sstslayer Right, but there isn't anything wrong with that. oly lifts will make you good at oly lifts. running makes you good at running. Crossfit wants to get people to do those things well, not better then those who solely train in those areas. Some of the crossfit community needs to shut up and realize that, I'll admit. Crossfit isn't trying to produce Olympians, thats for sure. It seems that people outside CF don't understand CF, and those in CF don't always understand others. Thanks man!
@rks91 General fitness is the key.. No one cares about well rounded athletes, just specialization. That's like going to college for 12 years and majoring in 6 subjects, as opposed to getting a PhD.
@rks91 Couldn't have said it better! It gets annoying to hear people saying crossfit is the best program for every aspect of fitness. It is great for general fitness
@ngrooms5157 LOL. "Gobbeldy gook" is as accurate a way to describe it as any that I can think of. Without a plan, how do you measure progress, let alone achieve a goal?! "Benchmark workouts"?!?! Not in the real world of competitive sports. Crossfit can rest on the claim that military units use their training methods, but elite competitive athletes don't, and there's a good reason for it. If we applied crossfit planning methods to architecture, people would be buried under piles of rubble.
@ngrooms5157 Again; I agree. If you want to compare Everett with an International level Olympic weightlifter, it's "game over". Most world class Olympic lifters in his weight class play around in training with the weights he maxes out at. After watching someone like Halil Mutlu (65 lbs lighter than Everett, and stronger) lift, Everetts efforts seem like a joke.
@ngrooms5157 but one could argue the reason they compete in crossfit is because crossfit is the most emcompassing form of athlete. you know - runners don't lift, lifters don't run, etc.. from that logic, no "athlete" is an actual "athlete" if they don't compete in sports other than their own sport. is a pro cyclist not an athlete if he doesn't compete in football? i fail to see the logic in saying that crossfitters are not athletes for the sole reason that they only compete in crossfit itself.
@ngrooms5157 Agreed. Neither would I. I was simply pointing out that there are athletes who have been successful in both sports simultaneously. I'm not even going to attempt to suggest that training for one, benefits or enhances performance in the other. The SAID principle is always applicable in regards to optimizing performance in any sport. So, again; I agree with you. I would even argue that Everett is a great athlete IN SPITE OF his crossfit training, not because of it.
@ngrooms5157 I totally agree. This is, without a doubt, my biggest gripe with crossfit as well. That, and the fact that their "training methodology" can't be cogently explained or practically justified. If you're training the olympic lifts (snatch and clean & jerk) or any of the variations (hang clean, clean pull, push jerk, snatch balance, etc) with more than 5 (6 at most) reps per set, you essentially don't know what you're doing, and you're likely going to hurt someone.
Yeah he is an average joe when it comes to power olympic weightlifting, but he is a top crossfit competitor. One of the best cross-fitters out there. These guys don't just focus on strength like the olympic lifters. He is more well-rounded.
@sampson1604 for saying power olympic lifting you deserve to die.
David Morgan:
I have benched bodyweight for 60 reps full squatted 180k for 20, deadlifted 200k for 25 and 230k for 15. I have also benched 130k for 25 reps and rowed 2000m in 6.35
if you say josh everett is more well rounded than him ur opinion should be disregarded
@ngrooms5157 As far as the "supreme athlete" ego trip goes; I get it. Crossfit is just another training method that happens to be very ecclectic. It's not the apex of training methodology though (imo). There are more than a few crossfitters who do put on such airs (and undeservedly so, I might add). But, there are also some guys that are incredibly well conditioned and athletic, yet extremely humble, despite their abilities. That's just people for ya. LOL. Some are just cocky jerks.
@ngrooms5157 He IS a national caliber olympic lifter. Go check out the USWF boards for rankings. He's not going to compare to someone like Dimas, but he's arguably the best that ever was at 85kg.
Since when, can an athlete not compete in 2 things (ie. crossfit and olympic lifting) simultaneously? I personally know a few guys who compete in wrestling and powerlifting and excel at both. Plus, crossfit incorporates olympic lifting, which would mean that they compliment each other.
I don't think there is anyone who weighs 185 that can split clean or split snatch more than josh everett....the guy is just a freak athlete who trains harder than 99% of people.
@tylerjones19 any junior olympic weigtlifter can do that. Pro olympic weightlifters in 18 pounds class will be in 400 pounds category. Compare to them this guy is a joke
@tylerjones19 Olympic weightlifters in 85kg category snatch 170kg(375 pounds) and clean and jerk!! 205kg(450 pounds). Check the "2008 europeans 85kg class" you tube video. This guy Josh Everett can't even qualify around world olympic lifters.
@juliesteve your not understanding..... I'm saying josh everett has the uncanny ability to !!!! SPLIT !!! clean a massive amount of weight for his body weight.
@tylerjones19 Are you saying that non of the olympic weigtlifters I just mention doesn't have that kind of ability? Vasily Polovnikov, russian olympic weightlifter in 85kg category deadlift over 800 pounds. Same guy who snatch 375 pounds and clean and jerk 450 pounds in 2008 in Italy. What I'm saying is that this Josh Everett can't step on the same platform with world record holders in his own bodyweight category period. Have no idea why are you so impresed with someone who's just average joe.
@juliesteve hahaha average joe, imagine if everyone was a stud in college track and field. I can't believe that the navy hire an average joe as their strength and conditioning coach. This guy has been inspiring crossfit athletes for years. I would hate to see your definition of an above average athlete.
@tylerjones19 Don't push the conversation any further please. You've stated: "A 185 pounder SPLIT cleaning 400 lbs!!!! holy crap can you send me that video? oh yeah it doesn't exist."
I did sent you video with way way way stronger guys than this average Joe(from olympic weightlifting stand point of view) and you didn't issue any appology for your mistake. Josh Everett is a "avarage joe" around olympic weightlifters period. Ther's no need for additional conversation.
@ngrooms5157 First of all, he's a national caliber olympic lifter, so I'm giving credit where credit is due. I've been lifting seriously for almost 25 years now. I weigh exactly the same as Everett, yet he can deadlift 100 lbs more and clean and jerk 50 lbs. more, so yeah, I find that impressive. Though, I'm a wrestler, not a competitive olympic weightlifter. Regarding the plates; I purchased York training bumpers in kilos 8 years ago that look EXACTLY like those.
@coachtaskmaster You've been lifting seriously for 25 years and you can't deadlift more than 355? What exactly have you been doing while "lifting seriously"?
@cflock The guy can deadlift 570 for a 1RM. I said that he can deadlift 100 lbs. more than I can. That would make my current deadlift 470, at 184, which it is. I've deadlifted 560, but that was at 215.
@coachtaskmaster it's graet that you weight as much as my dog but you didn't mention more important thing. How tall are you? You can be 200 pounds 5'6" midget wit T-Rex arms or someone who's 6'8" and it make all the difference. Seems like everybody talking bodyweight only. How about size of the lifter??? Don't tell me that 5'5" midget don't have deadlift or bench a lot easier than someone who's 6'8".
damn you are one strong mofo, im curious what bodyweight you're at. those are all impressive numbers for a 1RM, to do that in a circuit for 3 rounds is insane
Two things; I crossfit and play WoW sparingly, it's not about whether or not you play a VIDEO GAME its how much time you spend playing it (I also go to school full time, play rugby, and have a part time job.)
second; A 455 pound deadlift is still fucking insane. Half of y'all criticizing crossfit for whatever reason probably couldn't even do this workout. I know for one I'd have to scale the thing a little bit. Good job at the WOD, keep whoopin' ass man.
@teabrewer5- Your comments are absolutely moronic... this has nothing to do with being the "baddest dude on the block" (such a nob comment). Crossfit is about being fit. Furthermore, how many people with experience in MMA would say benching heavy or curling is more important than overall fitness and endurance?? I am going to go ahead and say none... Most MMA training is crossfit training because crossfit is simply a concept... A concept that has obviously gone way over your head.
Guaranteed any body builder could do this work out cross fit is just one way of getting stronger... and if you are going for pure strength it is not the best way
@teabrewer5 - first of all, I doubt a body builder could do muscle ups or handstand pushups, but completing this workout is 1 thing, doing it in a reasonable time is a whole other ball game. To your other point, crossfit trains all fitness components. So for training just strength , it isn't the best way, but unless you're a proffesional powerlifter being pure strong is not very helpful in sport/real life, you need stregth with a number of other fitness components, all of which crossfit delivers
@pup2000jd How could a body builder at under 4% body fat not do muscle ups or handstand pushups? And you agreed with what I said.. crossfit is not the best way to train strength.. but It is very good for all over fitness, yes and for decreasing body fat percentage... but If you want to be the strongest, baddest dude out there.. do not do cross fit.. just lift heavy ass weights
@teabrewer5 -Wanna be strongest? Sure lift big..Want to be the 'baddest' and be able to apply that strength in a real life setting like sport, MMA or combat?Do Crossfit. I would put my life on someone from the UFC or the armed forces who has undertaken a crossfit like conditioning to absolutley own a bodybuilder in a fight/sport. Don't know what body fat has to do with anything? I've seen overweight guys do muscle ups and shredded guys that can barely do a pull up - stop focusing on looks
@teabrewer5 Wow when did I ever say anything about looks? If you have lower body fat % you are more likely to be able to do a muscle up... if you want to be the baddest at anything cross fit is not the answer.. training real hard at that specific thing is I guarantee you someone who has trained in serious martial arts their entire life could work someone in the armed forces in a fight NO CROSS FIT REQUIRED
@teabrewer5 You've completley missed my point - I was not suggesting a crossfitter is better suited in a fight to someone trained in mixed martial arts. What I am suggesting is that crossfit, much like mixed martial arts, trains everything - speed, endruance power, agility etc. And if you want to be the 'baddest' as you put it, you need to excel in all of these areas. I won't even bother to address your comment about the muscle up - any one who reads that will have a good laugh at your expense.
@pup2000jd Yes, they aren't that hard... you act like cross fit is the answer to total fitness.. it's not... are sprinters fit? yes. do they do cross fit? no. gymnasts? extremely fit, no cross fit. there are many different ways of getting in shape.. for those who tout cross fit as God's gift to out of shape people
@teabrewer5 - There are 10 components to fitess 1. Cardiovascular/Respiratory Endurance 2. Stamina 3. Strength 4. Flexibility 5. Power 6.Speed 7. Co-ordination 8.Agility 9. Balance 10. Accurancy. Gymnists/Sprinters/Powerlifters/Marathon Runners each excel in a few of these 10. But crossfit hits all 10. If you were to put the best gymnist/sprinter/crossfitter (etc.) the crossfiter would perform well in all of these areas, whilst the others would do well in 1 or 2, then struggle for most
@pup2000jd WOW I can't believe you think a cross fitter would beat an olympic sprinter in ANY of these categories let alone most of them. AN OLYMPIC GYMNAST OR SPRINTER WOULD DESTROY ANY CROSSFITTER IN ALL OF THESE CATEGORIES
@teabrewer5 - CAPITAL LETTERS WOW, I'M INTIMIDATED! An elite crossfiter would deadlift, squat, bench clean and jerk, snatch, row, swim and bike faster/longer, do more pushups, pullups, muscles up, thrusters, than Usain Bolt. That is not an insult at Usain bolt, but he's specialty is sprinting - Elite crossfiters would probably even beat him in a 5km run. Similiarly, a gymnist would not be able to run/bike/row, deadlift, bench, squat, clean & jerk, snatch anywhere near elite crossfiters.
@pup2000jd Hi, now lets move on to my point It all depends on what type of exercise you do to show on those 10 components a Sprinter trains towards explosiveness which lead to higher max capacity in many things (Strength, Power, Speed, Co-ordination, Balance , Accurancy). And also comparing how fit different people are is almost impossible. Training leads to fitness thats it. The crossfiters are extremely fit but so i Usian Bolt, Leave it there...
@Devidar i agree with everything you've said, however theres nothing wrong with healthy debate, if you don't like it and want to 'leave it there' then your more than welcome to. But people are always going to debate what fitness is, its a high controversial topic, and very complicated and can't simply be put as - he's fit, he's fit, he isn't etc.
@teabrewer5 throw usuain bolt in a mile run, he would crap out after 800m hes trained for explosion not endurance bud. Crossfit helps people explore all levels of fitness and do there best at them
@930pal you're a retard there are bodybuilders that also compete in national power lifting competitions most bodybuilders are extremely strong you have no idea what you're talking about
God i hate the weight room meat heads that talk shit about crossfit just because we can outlift and out work them. I knew a 16 year old 125lb kid who was doing crossfit for a year challenged this 35 year old meathead to a crossfit workout and beat him by 5 minutes. The guy went on to say it was too much cardio and not enough strength training. Such horseshit, that shit pisses me off.
This would mainly improves cardiovascular endurance and work capacity, which are improved very quickly, such as during pre-season for a particular sport. Strength and muscle mass improve more via a cumulative effect in that the work you have been doing for months/years accrues. And the funny thing is that MOST CROSSFIT PEOPLE CAN'T DO THIS WORKOUT, BUT MANY WHO TRAIN FOR STRENGTH/BODYBUILDING CAN. You don't build the type of strength for a 455lb deadlift from just doing wod's.
Little kids that talk shit on CrossFit make me giggle, b/c they would most definitely toss their toaster strudel from any Crossfit workout, especially this one...
Great routine encompassed everything. I love this sport! Been a bb for 10 years competing for 3 and one day of this kicked my ass! True athleticism here!

Moggs24 3 months ago
@Moggs24 people get angry about crossfit because the MAJORITY of the practitioners are smug and douchey about their workout, as if it is the only way to develop functional strength and conditioning. as if it invented olympic lifting. and also because they call them "pull ups" when they are clearly something else
toomanyscreennames 3 months ago
@toomanyscreennames I hear ya but it doesn't mean that it is not a viable training method that can be very productive if used properly.

@spankaveli I'm not mad I'm smart. Been a trainer for 15 years. I know physiology and I'm not trying to feel macho by doing a bunch of dumb shit because "the marines do it!" So fuck off with your glorified circuit training. Big fucking deal.
TheSuperAgnosticOne 3 months ago
@TheSuperAgnosticOne You're so damn ignorant man, unbelievable....... if crossfit is about being a macho retard, then why dont you see these guys spraying on tans and flexing on stage in front of a bunch of dudes? You've mixed up your sports buddy...... Crossfit is about focusing on every aspect of fitness, post a video of yourself doing this workout if its so shitty and then I'll stop talking... Also I'm a certified trainer myself so please save your expertise bullshit.....
maiolo6 3 months ago
@maiolo6 I actually think you are both ignorant. No one cares if your a certified trainer or how long you have been a trainer. The fact of the matter is that TheSuperAgnosticOne has a spot on point in the face that Xfitters display just as much macho bs as body builders they just display it in different ways. T-Nation.com article on crossfit is the best article I have ever read on xfit. Summary: If you want to be good at a lot of things but great at nothing...do crossfit.
x35goahs1 2 months ago
@x35goahs1 haha T-nation is a BODY BUILDING website. You can't judge X-fit because of one article that knocks it, that makes YOU the ignorant one. I'm not saying one is right or wrong, I do both! X-fit for function, bodybuilding for physique. One sport is built around Vanity, the other is about Fitness. You've never tried X-fit and I doubt your ignorant ass ever will. I'm just saying try it, rather than arguing with me on here, go and attempt a Crossfit workout, read up on it, and then judge it
maiolo6 2 months ago
@maiolo6 No..It's a training website for all people that train. I judge crossfit because of my knowledge of human physiology and what it takes to become elite because I am. Xfit as its own entity i.e. sport...it's just as legit as anything, as a training methodology its less than average at best. I walked into a crossfit competition last month just to prove a point, didn't train for it, got 4th best time, nearly died. Was I impressed?..NO. None of those guys could last 2 seconds in my world
x35goahs1 2 months ago

Yes "my world." Yeah the "relentless pursuit of muscle" I forgot thats not what you xfitters go for, average physiques with average athlticism..."Xfit, the relentless pursuit of the average"
x35goahs1 2 months ago
@maiolo6 Check your inbox.
x35goahs1 2 months ago
@x35goahs1 This is a stupid argument, neither of us are going to convince one another of whats right and wrong. I lift heavy. I do body building routines, I like having a good physique. BUT crossfit brought my athleticism to another level, and improved my hypertrophy training in the process. Also, that so called video of you, uploaded by another user? and it appears to be a crossfit gym even, what the hell is that? and why are you even looking up crossfit videos if bodybuildings your thing?
maiolo6 2 months ago
@maiolo6 Yup that other user being my coach...the guy standing behind me. And yes my sponsor is a certified Xfit gym. What can I say I'm a sell out, they let me train there with my coach for free. I'm also not a body builder. Body builders don't do olympic style front squats. I eat like a body builder and take the same strict detailed approach to my own training but maximal hypertrophy is not my goal, I'm an athlete.
x35goahs1 2 months ago
@x35goahs1 what sport is that exactly? It's funny, you and I pretty much train the same way. I don't do specific Crossfit, Crossfit is a brand name. but I have taken some principles of Crossfit and applied it to my own regimen (i.e. Olympic style lifting, and short intense workouts like grace) but I have also incorporated bodybuilding for my physique. However, to say they have average physiques and are average athletes is crazy, the shit those guys pull off at the crossfit games is insane
maiolo6 2 months ago 2

Run, swim, bike, powerlifting, olympiclifting, gymnastics, etc.

russebla000 8 months ago
If I'm gonna be perfectly honest the only sport I've seen crossfit be directly beneficial for is wrestling. It promotes general physical conditioning, mindset, a bit of strength training etc etc. For other sports it just makes sense to practice what the sport entails.

This is coming from an avid crossfitter btw so don't jump on me about how Fran is the Queen of workouts:)

whatever the shit talking on here....this guy can deadlift the same or even more then most powerlifters, he can do OLY lift the same or better then most olympic lifters...he can run or sprint equal or better then most runners and sprinters etc etc...the only difference, is that he can do all of those things, while a sprinter can only sprint, a runner can only run, a powerlifter can only deadlift, squat, bench, and a OLY lifter can only OLY lift...
chublancsti 11 months ago
@chublancsti you clearly don't know a lot. Everetts best C&J is 160kg, kendrick farris (who is the same weight) can lift 211kg in training. His best 400m is 50s, not even top of high school grade, let alone better than olympic standard runners. Crossfit is a great way to achieve high levels of GPP, but crossfitters tend to be jack of all trades, master of none.
FTWSquat 11 months ago
@chublancsti You are the definition of a crossfiter who has no concept of reality. He can lift more than power lifters??? How much do you think power lifts dead lift dude? @ngrooms5157 UC means University of California, yet he didn't specify a school or team, so he was probably talking out his ass. As far as general physical preparedness, this is what i take from it. I don't play sports anymore, but I still like to stay in good shape with intense workouts. Crossfit is great in this sense. Maybe I'm not training with DI or NFL strength coaches, but if some friends wants to play some pickup basketball or football, I'm confident I am in good enough shape to play well

I apologize for any crossfiters who have indicated otherwise.
rks91 1 year ago 23
@rks91 I have seen people who never did any kind of athletic activity and have taken up crossfit and it is amazing how it has changed the quality of their lives . I recommend crossfit for those who like a little bit of everything and are sick of the bodybuilding approach that predominates in gyms all over. I agree with you and I think crossfit bring something to the table that has been overlooked for a long time.
lechoso72 11 months ago
@rks91 yes it has claimed to make you a top athlete, saying they can increase your deadlift to 500-750 from 250 in a couple years...
sstslayer 9 months ago
@sstslayer I didn't realize that deadlifting 500-750 pounds makes you an Olympic athlete. Nevertheless, would you mind posting a link to this claim? I'm a little bit doubtful, seeing as how even the best crossfitters seem to top out at high 500's (Rob Orlando's 1RM is 600 I believe). Even so, I'm 19 years old and have been crossfitting for less than a year. When I started, I could hardly pull 200lbs. Now I can pull close to 400.. needless to say I was out of shape.
rks91 9 months ago
@sstslayer I haven't done any serious strength bias yet (plan on doing so this summer) so its not ridiculous to suggest that I could approach a 500 pound deadlift in 16 months. Easier said than done, of course. I'm also only 5' 11'' and 170 pounds. The point is that these athletes can do some truly impressive things. They are well rounded in all aspects of fitness, . We should just appreciate how hard they train and what they can achieve both physically and mentally... not bicker mindlessly.
rks91 9 months ago
@rks91 I think if someone wants to be good at crossfit, train crossfit, that's all it makes you good at. I haven't got anything against people who do crossfit, only the ones that think they know everything about fitness because their crossfit coach said a couple things... Good luck with your lifts, proper strength training can get you to the 500 pounds.
sstslayer 9 months ago
@sstslayer Right, but there isn't anything wrong with that. oly lifts will make you good at oly lifts. running makes you good at running. Crossfit wants to get people to do those things well, not better then those who solely train in those areas. Some of the crossfit community needs to shut up and realize that, I'll admit. Crossfit isn't trying to produce Olympians, thats for sure. It seems that people outside CF don't understand CF, and those in CF don't always understand others. Thanks man!
rks91 9 months ago
@rks91 General fitness is the key.. No one cares about well rounded athletes, just specialization. That's like going to college for 12 years and majoring in 6 subjects, as opposed to getting a PhD.
BeepimajeepBeep 9 months ago
@rks91 actually Glassman publicly has claimed that very thing
str94100 9 months ago
@rks91 Couldn't have said it better! It gets annoying to hear people saying crossfit is the best program for every aspect of fitness. It is great for general fitness
BeepimajeepBeep 8 months ago
@ngrooms5157 LOL. "Gobbeldy gook" is as accurate a way to describe it as any that I can think of. Without a plan, how do you measure progress, let alone achieve a goal?! "Benchmark workouts"?!?! Not in the real world of competitive sports. Crossfit can rest on the claim that military units use their training methods, but elite competitive athletes don't, and there's a good reason for it. If we applied crossfit planning methods to architecture, people would be buried under piles of rubble.
coachtaskmaster 1 year ago
@ngrooms5157 Again; I agree. If you want to compare Everett with an International level Olympic weightlifter, it's "game over". Most world class Olympic lifters in his weight class play around in training with the weights he maxes out at. After watching someone like Halil Mutlu (65 lbs lighter than Everett, and stronger) lift, Everetts efforts seem like a joke.
coachtaskmaster 1 year ago
@ngrooms5157 Being good at Crossfit makes you good at Crossfit. Cf is a sport and this guy is a beast at it.
DarthNader0 1 year ago
@ngrooms5157 but one could argue the reason they compete in crossfit is because crossfit is the most emcompassing form of athlete. you know - runners don't lift, lifters don't run, etc.. from that logic, no "athlete" is an actual "athlete" if they don't compete in sports other than their own sport. is a pro cyclist not an athlete if he doesn't compete in football? i fail to see the logic in saying that crossfitters are not athletes for the sole reason that they only compete in crossfit itself.
ArcticSheep 1 year ago
That right there is the sickest thing I've ever seen..
MrWilsonSK8 1 year ago
@ngrooms5157 Agreed. Neither would I. I was simply pointing out that there are athletes who have been successful in both sports simultaneously. I'm not even going to attempt to suggest that training for one, benefits or enhances performance in the other. The SAID principle is always applicable in regards to optimizing performance in any sport. So, again; I agree with you. I would even argue that Everett is a great athlete IN SPITE OF his crossfit training, not because of it.
coachtaskmaster 1 year ago
@ngrooms5157 I totally agree. This is, without a doubt, my biggest gripe with crossfit as well. That, and the fact that their "training methodology" can't be cogently explained or practically justified. If you're training the olympic lifts (snatch and clean & jerk) or any of the variations (hang clean, clean pull, push jerk, snatch balance, etc) with more than 5 (6 at most) reps per set, you essentially don't know what you're doing, and you're likely going to hurt someone.

Since when, can an athlete not compete in 2 things (ie. crossfit and olympic lifting) simultaneously? I personally know a few guys who compete in wrestling and powerlifting and excel at both. Plus, crossfit incorporates olympic lifting, which would mean that they compliment each other.

I don't think there is anyone who weighs 185 that can split clean or split snatch more than josh everett....the guy is just a freak athlete who trains harder than 99% of people.
tylerjones19 1 year ago
@tylerjones19 any junior olympic weigtlifter can do that. Pro olympic weightlifters in 18 pounds class will be in 400 pounds category. Compare to them this guy is a joke
juliesteve 1 year ago
@juliesteve A 185 pounder SPLIT cleaning 400 lbs!!!! holy crap can you send me that video? oh yeah it doesn't exist.
tylerjones19 1 year ago
@tylerjones19 Olympic weightlifters in 85kg category snatch 170kg(375 pounds) and clean and jerk!! 205kg(450 pounds). Check the "2008 europeans 85kg class" you tube video. This guy Josh Everett can't even qualify around world olympic lifters.
juliesteve 1 year ago
@juliesteve your not understanding..... I'm saying josh everett has the uncanny ability to !!!! SPLIT !!! clean a massive amount of weight for his body weight.
tylerjones19 1 year ago
@tylerjones19 Are you saying that non of the olympic weigtlifters I just mention doesn't have that kind of ability? Vasily Polovnikov, russian olympic weightlifter in 85kg category deadlift over 800 pounds. Same guy who snatch 375 pounds and clean and jerk 450 pounds in 2008 in Italy. What I'm saying is that this Josh Everett can't step on the same platform with world record holders in his own bodyweight category period. Have no idea why are you so impresed with someone who's just average joe.
juliesteve 1 year ago
@juliesteve hahaha average joe, imagine if everyone was a stud in college track and field. I can't believe that the navy hire an average joe as their strength and conditioning coach. This guy has been inspiring crossfit athletes for years. I would hate to see your definition of an above average athlete.
tylerjones19 1 year ago
@tylerjones19 Don't push the conversation any further please. You've stated: "A 185 pounder SPLIT cleaning 400 lbs!!!! holy crap can you send me that video? oh yeah it doesn't exist."
I did sent you video with way way way stronger guys than this average Joe(from olympic weightlifting stand point of view) and you didn't issue any appology for your mistake. Josh Everett is a "avarage joe" around olympic weightlifters period. Ther's no need for additional conversation.

@juliesteve never saw a 400 lb split clean please post the link
tylerjones19 1 year ago
@ngrooms5157 First of all, he's a national caliber olympic lifter, so I'm giving credit where credit is due. I've been lifting seriously for almost 25 years now. I weigh exactly the same as Everett, yet he can deadlift 100 lbs more and clean and jerk 50 lbs. more, so yeah, I find that impressive. Though, I'm a wrestler, not a competitive olympic weightlifter. Regarding the plates; I purchased York training bumpers in kilos 8 years ago that look EXACTLY like those.
coachtaskmaster 1 year ago
@coachtaskmaster You've been lifting seriously for 25 years and you can't deadlift more than 355? What exactly have you been doing while "lifting seriously"?
cflock 1 year ago
@cflock The guy can deadlift 570 for a 1RM. I said that he can deadlift 100 lbs. more than I can. That would make my current deadlift 470, at 184, which it is. I've deadlifted 560, but that was at 215.
coachtaskmaster 1 year ago
@coachtaskmaster it's graet that you weight as much as my dog but you didn't mention more important thing. How tall are you? You can be 200 pounds 5'6" midget wit T-Rex arms or someone who's 6'8" and it make all the difference. Seems like everybody talking bodyweight only. How about size of the lifter??? Don't tell me that 5'5" midget don't have deadlift or bench a lot easier than someone who's 6'8".
juliesteve 1 year ago
@juliesteve I'm 5'10" 184 lbs.
coachtaskmaster 1 year ago
@ngrooms5157 You're right, it isn't 455. It's actually 463. The first 3 plates on each side are 25kg each, and the end plate is 20kg.
coachtaskmaster 1 year ago
@ngrooms5157 well Josh's 1RM DL is 570, so 455 isn't even 80% of his max, and I wouldn't call him skinny personally.
StruDawg93 1 year ago
damn you are one strong mofo, im curious what bodyweight you're at. those are all impressive numbers for a 1RM, to do that in a circuit for 3 rounds is insane

What a great team! everybody is just yelling and shit, definite motivator during intense training like that.
cleve101 1 year ago
Two things; I crossfit and play WoW sparingly, it's not about whether or not you play a VIDEO GAME its how much time you spend playing it (I also go to school full time, play rugby, and have a part time job.)
second; A 455 pound deadlift is still fucking insane. Half of y'all criticizing crossfit for whatever reason probably couldn't even do this workout. I know for one I'd have to scale the thing a little bit. Good job at the WOD, keep whoopin' ass man.
arkamedes1 1 year ago
@teabrewer5- Your comments are absolutely moronic... this has nothing to do with being the "baddest dude on the block" (such a nob comment). Crossfit is about being fit. Furthermore, how many people with experience in MMA would say benching heavy or curling is more important than overall fitness and endurance?? I am going to go ahead and say none... Most MMA training is crossfit training because crossfit is simply a concept... A concept that has obviously gone way over your head.

Guaranteed any body builder could do this work out cross fit is just one way of getting stronger... and if you are going for pure strength it is not the best way
teabrewer5 1 year ago
@teabrewer5 - first of all, I doubt a body builder could do muscle ups or handstand pushups, but completing this workout is 1 thing, doing it in a reasonable time is a whole other ball game. To your other point, crossfit trains all fitness components. So for training just strength , it isn't the best way, but unless you're a proffesional powerlifter being pure strong is not very helpful in sport/real life, you need stregth with a number of other fitness components, all of which crossfit delivers
pup2000jd 1 year ago
@pup2000jd How could a body builder at under 4% body fat not do muscle ups or handstand pushups? And you agreed with what I said.. crossfit is not the best way to train strength.. but It is very good for all over fitness, yes and for decreasing body fat percentage... but If you want to be the strongest, baddest dude out there.. do not do cross fit.. just lift heavy ass weights
teabrewer5 1 year ago
@teabrewer5 -Wanna be strongest? Sure lift big..Want to be the 'baddest' and be able to apply that strength in a real life setting like sport, MMA or combat?Do Crossfit. I would put my life on someone from the UFC or the armed forces who has undertaken a crossfit like conditioning to absolutley own a bodybuilder in a fight/sport. Don't know what body fat has to do with anything? I've seen overweight guys do muscle ups and shredded guys that can barely do a pull up - stop focusing on looks
pup2000jd 1 year ago
@teabrewer5 Wow when did I ever say anything about looks? If you have lower body fat % you are more likely to be able to do a muscle up... if you want to be the baddest at anything cross fit is not the answer.. training real hard at that specific thing is I guarantee you someone who has trained in serious martial arts their entire life could work someone in the armed forces in a fight NO CROSS FIT REQUIRED
teabrewer5 1 year ago
@teabrewer5 You've completley missed my point - I was not suggesting a crossfitter is better suited in a fight to someone trained in mixed martial arts. What I am suggesting is that crossfit, much like mixed martial arts, trains everything - speed, endruance power, agility etc. And if you want to be the 'baddest' as you put it, you need to excel in all of these areas. I won't even bother to address your comment about the muscle up - any one who reads that will have a good laugh at your expense.
pup2000jd 1 year ago
@teabrewer5 - Just out of interest, have you ever done a muscle up?
pup2000jd 1 year ago
@pup2000jd Yes, they aren't that hard... you act like cross fit is the answer to total fitness.. it's not... are sprinters fit? yes. do they do cross fit? no. gymnasts? extremely fit, no cross fit. there are many different ways of getting in shape.. for those who tout cross fit as God's gift to out of shape people
teabrewer5 1 year ago
@teabrewer5 - There are 10 components to fitess 1. Cardiovascular/Respiratory Endurance 2. Stamina 3. Strength 4. Flexibility 5. Power 6.Speed 7. Co-ordination 8.Agility 9. Balance 10. Accurancy. Gymnists/Sprinters/Powerlifters/Marathon Runners each excel in a few of these 10. But crossfit hits all 10. If you were to put the best gymnist/sprinter/crossfitter (etc.) the crossfiter would perform well in all of these areas, whilst the others would do well in 1 or 2, then struggle for most
pup2000jd 1 year ago
@pup2000jd WOW I can't believe you think a cross fitter would beat an olympic sprinter in ANY of these categories let alone most of them. AN OLYMPIC GYMNAST OR SPRINTER WOULD DESTROY ANY CROSSFITTER IN ALL OF THESE CATEGORIES
teabrewer5 1 year ago

@pup2000jd an elite gymnast would smash a crossfitter in the deadlift, u kidding me?

@pup2000jd Dude, you think an "Elite Crossfitter" would probably beat Usain Bolt in a 5km run? Haha, is that a joke?
RedCl0ud22 1 year ago
@pup2000jd Hi, now lets move on to my point It all depends on what type of exercise you do to show on those 10 components a Sprinter trains towards explosiveness which lead to higher max capacity in many things (Strength, Power, Speed, Co-ordination, Balance , Accurancy). And also comparing how fit different people are is almost impossible. Training leads to fitness thats it. The crossfiters are extremely fit but so i Usian Bolt, Leave it there...
Devidar 1 year ago
@Devidar i agree with everything you've said, however theres nothing wrong with healthy debate, if you don't like it and want to 'leave it there' then your more than welcome to. But people are always going to debate what fitness is, its a high controversial topic, and very complicated and can't simply be put as - he's fit, he's fit, he isn't etc.
pup2000jd 1 year ago
@teabrewer5 anyway jut a difference of opinion, i respect that its not your thing so no big deal
pup2000jd 1 year ago
@teabrewer5 throw usuain bolt in a mile run, he would crap out after 800m hes trained for explosion not endurance bud. Crossfit helps people explore all levels of fitness and do there best at them

MrBlowies 1 year ago
This would mainly improves cardiovascular endurance and work capacity, which are improved very quickly, such as during pre-season for a particular sport. Strength and muscle mass improve more via a cumulative effect in that the work you have been doing for months/years accrues. And the funny thing is that MOST CROSSFIT PEOPLE CAN'T DO THIS WORKOUT, BUT MANY WHO TRAIN FOR STRENGTH/BODYBUILDING CAN. You don't build the type of strength for a 455lb deadlift from just doing wod's.
