@AliaSparrow You're kidding right? Have you heard his music that's not from films? 'Short People'? 'It's Money That I Love'? 'Mama Told Me Not To Come'? 'My Life Is Good'? They tackle racism, greed, loneliness, just about everything. Randy is probably one of the best lyrics writers in America today. Don't comment about something you know nothing about.
@SparrowFreak yes he did. randy newman has composed songs for many movies, like james and the giant peach, toy story, (and many other pixar movies) and a few disney classics, like princess and the frog.
God, I'm a huge Randy Newman fan. But after seeing that episode of family guy that had him in it I can't help but make a parody of his "morning fog" song.
I trust Randy. He composed music for "Cat's Don't Dance" and I love the songs in that movie. Don't judge him from Pixar. Pixar movies aren't the romance/musical type.

I don't like the song, even though I do appreciate that they got New Orleans native to sing. I don't like most southern music types, this included, but I am still interested in seeing the movie.
@Lonsoleil - Randy Newman is not a bad composer. While is NOT my favorite musician, he does have some ok songs at times, not all but some. And no, he does not sing on the soundtrack. This song is actually performed by Dr. John and Anika Noni Rose (Tiana).
YAY! ZOMGOOODNESS! I am sooo excited for this movie, it's literally on my calander. This song is so wonderful, I love Randy Newman, his past work has been wonderful and this is by far no exception. Well done!
Hey McAwesome2006. I read my comment back to myself and it does sound funny.lol:) I'm just really excited because I have two things in common with the new disney princess (where she's from and her race.)
A "shotgun shack" is known here in New Orleans as a shotgun house -- named because one room is behind the other, and if a shotgun blasted through the front wall from outside it could go through every room in the house
I believe I can make out most of it: The evening star is shining bright So make a wish and hold on tight There's magic in the air tonight And anything can happen In the Southland, there's a city Way down on the river Where the women are very pretty And all the men deliver They got music, it's always playin' Starts in the daytime, goes on thru the night When you hear that music playin' Hear what I'm sayin, it makes me feel alright
(cont.) Grab somebody come on down Bring your paintbrush, paintin' the town Theres some sweetness goin' round Catch it down in New Orleans They got magic, good and bad Make you happy or make you real sad Get everything you want, lose what you had Down here in New Orleans Hey partner, dont be shy Come on down, give it a try wanna do some livin' before you die? Do it down in New Orleans

Dr. John needs to keep his mouth shut and just keep playing his instrument. Randy Newman ought to be the one singing this theme song. Hey DISNEY, stop stepping over the line with all your "P.C." crap - we all know that you and ABC are very conservative, anyway, so enough with the phoniness. Masking your true colors with false image is only making it worse.
As long as Randy's writing the music, I'm happy. Too many people only praise him for his music for Toy Story. He's done so much more (including music for the animated film Cats Don't Dance).
Yea i know what you mean i just went to a concert of his in Philly and it was great. I my self would say he is the best musician, songwriter and my favorite to listen to.
Awesome! I've only discovered his lesser known work recently and I must say he is without a doubt my favorite singer/songwriter. I LOVE the fact that he composes film scores as well! I've never had the privilege of going to a concert of his, though...
I will admit that Randy Newman did a great job w/the song for the new film, but let's not be hasty w/judging Dr. John's rendition long before the actual film is being released.
I like some of Dr. John's music, and besides, only a segement of the actual song performed by him was heard in the trailer. That's not enough to decide who's version sounds better. We'll just have to wait until the film comes out in December to hear the whole song.
And something a lot of people overlook is that Dr.John is a staple of New Orleans. He's very much a signature sound that when people hear his voice, they immediately think: New Orleans!
Randy Newman is also from New Orleans, but he's more recognized for his work with Pixar. My dad used to play music in New Orleans in the same circles as Randy in the 1970's, and by his report he's a really nice guy. As a New Orleans native, I'm thrilled about this movie, but not happy about people dissecting it.
Anyone who knows Randy well or listens to his music also would think of him as a New Orleans guy. Randy Newman is way better than Dr.John and I dont care how many little thumbs down things I get for saying it. I can already tell that Randy is more fit for this song, I dont even have to listen to dr.johns version to know that.
That's cool, you're totally entitled to your opinion of who would be a better performer of this song. Being a New Orleans girl, myself, I've been raised to love the voice of good old Dr. John. I guess it's all just a matter of personal taste :)
i love randy newman's voice! if i could marry a voice...would be his!!!

You guys can look up Princess and the Frog On Ice and Naveen and Tiana are skating to this song. :D

Oh God.
Randy Newman is going to be singing on this soundtrack?
Why does Disney and Pixar insist on torturing us with his music movie, after movie, after movie?
Ugh, oh well. The trailer for the movie looked so awesome that I'm willing to excuse the Newman music!

monitifus, you've almost got it exactly right, but the last verse is:
"Shotgun shacks and mansions,
sugar barons and Mardi Gras kings.
Rich people, poor people, they all got dreams.
And dreams do come true in New Orleans."
DisneyEchoTV 3 years ago 3
Thank you for clearing that up! It makes more sense to me now!

everyone the real version.. how it is suppose to be sung is on the teaser
to the princess and the frog

can anyone understand a word he said? I'd like to know what the lyrics are, but I cant make out anything outside of what was used in the teaser.
