and also i have been trying to burn the tiger os x onto a dvd from a windows 7 pc and it doesn't show up on my mac. do i need to burn the dvd on my mac and install on the same mac?

Mike - I found the bittorrent and downloaded the one for Tiger. The iso file. Thank heavens I didn't need to change anything. Your instructions worked like a charm and I burned the DVD and am now installing it on our mac mini from 2005! (Lost the original disks.) if ur iMac just spits the dvd right out check if your iMac is able to read dvd's, my iMac is from 1999 and has a slotload but is only able to read cd's

@IllustratedDan i actually did not download the one you specificly have on video, because the G4 has only a cd-rom drive but the one i downloaded is the same only broken into 4 parts. any help? Thanks

@IllustratedDan just burn the 4parts so separate cd's and when its finished installing 2 it will ask for disk 2 and so on. you can also break an image into parts. there are many step by step tutorials online

@kbiggzy its either not reading the disk as an image, it doesnt support dvd's, or your ibook doesnt support 10.4. try re burning the disk and instead of holding "c" press option at startup and chose the 10.4 disk

Can u help me? After i turn the iMac on, push the dvd in and hold down "C", the dvd comes out. I push it back in & it still doesnt work!!

I als tried opening the dvd file and clicking on the "Install Mas OS X' icon, it tells me to restart ,asks for my passsword & again it pushes the dvd out!

@dmcnmami that usually means ur computer does not read dvd's. split it up into parts and burn each part to a cd and install that way. there are many tutorials to split up an image

@msfili On my iMac G3, I had Mac OS 9 installed. I went from there to 10.4. you'll be perfectly fine.

@KayakServer Make sure that isn't a grey colored disc! If it is, it won't work. The grey discs are designed for the specific iMac that disk came with.

Neither does mine. I made an ISO of my legal retail DVD and used Win32 Disk Imager to dump the ISO to a flash drive. The install on my iMac (600 Mhz 1 gig RAM 40 Gig HDD) took a short 2 hours through USB 1.1.
