i think your way off the mark.i could guess myself but im looking for the answer, the correct one.

i know your wrong as it says in the song, the towns of kilkee and kilrush can be seen building homes for their young round the cliffs of doneeen.(you cant see kilkee from ballyvaughan)

  • Comment removed

  • There are several places throughout Ireland named Dooneen. (Little Fort) which is why i mentioned ballyvaughan & kinvara. The only "Dooneen" that would have a view of Kilrush and Kilkee is Dooneen Point in north Kerry, however they are not cliffs they are a rock formation

  • the west coast of Co. Clare

  • a legend

  • Isn't Paddy Reilly so very special, a wonderful singer, so brilliant. Your Dad is very lucky to know a talent like him. Did he have training to sing, as his voice is as clear as a bell and is as sweet as nectar.

  • the words says you can see the towns of kilrush and kilkee then the cliffs must be in kerry? i would love to know where they are exactly

  • kilush and kilkee and the cliffs are all in co clare

  • The Cliffs of Dooneen are in Kerry. About 5 km north of Ballybunion and a 1km south of Beal point is Dooneen point clearly marked in any detailed map of the area. The Song was written by a man by the name of Jack McAuliffe who was about to leav it was written around the 50s and the lyrics close to the original can be found in the Shannonside Annual 1956. Killrush and Killkee can be seen from the area but not mentioned in the original lyrics may have been added to give the song wider appeal.

  • Hi Paintire,

you are a mine of information. thank you for that and for taking the time to repling

  • This song is so beautiful, and it's great that you're such a fount of knowledge about the area. It helps to bring the song to life even more. The singer Paddy Reiley has the voice of an angel.
