  • The writer of this went on to create 'Burn Notice', the only excellent US television show that is still running. We salute you, Matt Nix!

  • Smart ending. Would be much better if Citizien 43215 turned out to be Emmanuel Goldstein.

  • This was originally on Atomsfilm around 8 years ago.

  • This was originally on AdamsFilm around 8 years ago.

  • when Big started talking it scared the mess out of me, doubleplusgood!

  • Oldthinkers unbellyfeel Ingsoc.

  • I love how the Thought Police are credited as Stormtroopers

    OR

    thinkpol credited stormtroopers doubleplusgood

  • A decrease in rations being reported?? It seems like someone isn't doing his job at the Ministry of Truth.

  • @mongoose308 Should have said it like "Flour Rations are being increased from 12% to 9%." Doublethink will make that work,

  • BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!!! (Even when he would rather not...)

  • @MrUnidyne WIKIPEDIA, fuckhead.

  • Doubleplusgood!!

  • Ungoodthinkful crimethink! Oldthinkers unbellyfeel ingsoc!

  • @narutowned Translation: 'Bad criminal thoughts! You think like an old grandpa!'

  • @erikals2

Or, people (heretical though criminals) are not able to understand the wonderful aspects of English Socialism.

  • That's just so awesome. Yahtzee!

  • 1984 actually has a character like this -- Parsons, who is arrested all the same for faking his love for BB. Cute parody, but realistically, in Orwell's totalitarianism, uncooperative types were simply marked down and unceremoniously eliminated. Vanished, as unpersons. Hard to play Yahtzee with a jackboot stamping on his face -- forever.

  • This fellow is a great example of doublethink, and a way in which it can be used AGAINST the ruling party!

  • I saw this on Exposure in 2001, and I 've been searching for it since.... Now that it's more relevant than ever, I"m more than happy to have finally found it! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  • Freaking hilarious, one of the best 1984 riffs ever!

  • You fools ! This feeds you Goldsteins lies ! Are you blind ?

  • Great video, just goes to show not even fascism can bring down an optimist!

  • @FrankNinja But 1984 is supposed to be based on Communism, not Fascism.

  • @Butzopower Both actually, its supposed to be if you took the worst of Stalinism and the worst of Nazism and put them in a state

  • @honsou48 Yes, I see your point, you are correct!

  • "as long as a man can look at the eyes of his oppressor he is free."

Those are wise words, man. They're not always helpful. Or particularly rational. But wise... in a way.

For me, they demonstrate the freedom of your mind to recognize what's going on, the working of your senses to feed your mind with new information, and the influx your mind lets you unfold over the world.

As much of my reasoning and consciousness since high school depended on "1984", I'm grateful for this movie.

    5 stars

  • no one can fight stupidy - so use it against your goverment.

    #k.

  • Actually I think he quote the book...

    OH LOOK IT'S GOLDSTEIN! *points*

  • These must be the most intellectual comments on youtube.

  • I like the opening credits music. Really sounds like the Oceania songs. :)

  • Really, the TP would have just vapourised him the first time he spoke to the screen. But funny anyway.

  • You have to be especially clever to beat the Thought Police...if possible

  • No, there is no escaping the Thought Police. As a matter of fact, I have a theory that not a single member of the outer party actually dies naturally. They're all taken down to MiniLuv, eventually. Think about it. But don't, because then you'll be arrested by the Thought Police.

  • How about you pretend to love Big Brother with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind to the extent that Big Brother will get annoyed with you but has no idea on how to arrest you because he loved you? That is how Spongebob beats Squidward.

  • double plus good, definitely. I loved the book, and think that this satire of it would make orwell proud.

  • This is by far one of my favorite short ever. Absolutely brilliant, this is more than just a spoof.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • This is great. I love the book and I'm glad to see that someone is making a parody version.

  • thanks a lot for posting this. it was amazing.

  • Had a great laugh, thanks for the upload.

  • doubledoubleplusgood.

    i don't think theres a word for 4 times ;)

  • double double plus good, more like double double double double double double double double double double double double double double double doubleplusgood

  • lol he would so get arrested from tht and big brother would never leave.....yet, i liked this one SO much better! lol ;p

  • octupleplus awesome

But I think he commited sexcrime several times

  • Ha that was brilliant! Loved the glove puppets! Yes very well done, loved it : )

  • Very nice - great upgrade to the original, I love the creativity & vision.

  • Doubleplus ungood refs unpersons verge crimethink unproceed rectify antefiling

  • Well, I agree about the crimethink part, but it's fairly overt, not verging. Also, there were never any unpersons referenced, and there's nothing to rectify.

  • I love the end =) The comedy is great, but the ending is powerful. Be annoying enough and the oppressors will leave you alone.

  • @raydred1 Well, it's not really powerful 'cuz it's not true one bit.

  • Quadrupleplus good! The 'antithesis' to Winston is hilarious! Anoying the BB to the point where he turns off the telescreen so that the 'antithesis' can do as he pleases. Once again, Quadrupleplus good.

  • doubleplusgood!

  • Doubleplus ungood refs unpersons verge crimethink unproceed rectify antefiling

  • Doubleplusgood job chaps! I must say, this is quite possibly on par with the very book itself. Not only does it offer a glimpse into another view of the oppression, it also offers hope that behind that damnable aloofness lies the heart of a revolutionary of justice. I must express my joy wholeheartedly as to the end, very unforeseeable. Why, using his methods, I believe we could spread syphilis to all the members of the Inner Party! Though getting syphilis might be an inadvisable endeavor...

  • We finally got there didn't we? Very well made! Hug the Big guy for me!

Everyone else, keep reading, keep writing, keep hugging and take it to the streets. Re-Re-Educate!

Time to fire the Big Guy.

    Chief of Liquid Neutrino

  • Maybe you are right. But it seems to be an unstopable circle.Since man walks the earth it is always the same story:the people are afraid of the unknown.Fear leads to the wish of security, security leads to control-to hate-to violence. The enemy of humankind slumbers in each and everyone of us. But hopefully it's not too late.

  • its a pro movie

  • maybe the point of this is that the only way of getting back at the big guy is by making him watch what he wishes not to see, funny but could be interpreted as mocking 1984 but upon closer analysis is the "laugh or cry moment"

I will always choose to laugh and to live!

  • so if you cant cope with the repression of the human being then maybe you can laugh about it and the absurdness that is that no one reacts to this mad world, they just continue to live and to laugh about it, which maybe means were laughing at ourself.

    AND SO THE CYCLE CONTINUES

  • Cruel - but Humanly compassionate. - You'd hate to think we are headed here . . . !!!

  • "Citizen 43275B, a nudnick"

Do you know Hebrew by any chance?

  • Doubleplusgood reeducation comrade!

Of course I've read the book, it's probably the best book ever written.

  • I like the video. It's thoughtful and 43275B presented himself as a character who MIGHT do something against the totalitarian leader. The video was a nice parody of the movie 1984, but as always if you want to understand what Orwell wrote, you need to READ his book.

READ IT, instead of WATCHING it!

  • where the hell did he get the boggle set? i thought everything which can induce thoughtcrime is removed?

  • its laced with anthrax, so the thoughtcrime is silenced immediately

  • Great way to make fun of Panopticism!

  • Doubleplusgood.

  • One time, I saw this girl holding 1984, and I asked her how she liked it, and she said the ending was stupid. "Nothing happened."

I told her (spoilz ahead) that the protagonist had been shot in the back of the head.

She didn't believe me, and we both went in separate directions.

If you read it too and didn't think that's what happened, it's very subtle.

  • Did he really or did he THINK he got shot?

We had a long discussion about that in my Brit Lit class...I love 1984.

  • If he only thought he got shot it was because he was waiting to get shot. Because he was going to get shot.

    Shot.

    I also enjoyed 1984.

  • He did get shot. The way it works with political prisonersn is that they are tortured to the edge of lunacy to convert them, then they confess and stay in the public for a while. They then disappear again, this time for good. They then become "Unpersons" meaning they do not and never have existed. So yes, they ARE shot. An Unperson is someone who must be dead, since they do not or never have existed.

  • You should say, they never existed in the Party's mind.

  • So that's how you take down a totalitarian government- play sock puppets and tell knock knock jokes!

  • No, if I remember correctly, Goldstien was the leader of the resistance group, but then it's revealed that he was a fabrication of the Party. This guy is meant to be an actual revolutionary.

If I don't remember correctly, I'm sorry, I read the book a while back.

  • Nah, it's just that the book never really reveals if he's real or if he's a fabrication of the Party. However, certain parts do suggest that he's a fabrication, but that's not completely certain.

  • That was awsome. I know you didn't make it but still. This not at all ruins thew book, if anything it hepls it. Nice twist. And There is way more than one joke in there. If whoever made this video ever reads this, keep it up. It's awesome!

  • Did you watch it to the end? Dumbass.

  • Do you by any chance pronounce the word "literature" with emphasis on the "ture"?

If you gave the matter any impartial thought, you'd realise that its only your extensive ego being butchered. "Classics" can only be butchered by their authors.

  • no, i dont put an emphasis on the ture bit. extensive ego? hardly. what i do mean is that the book was a very good book and although usually i have a good sense of humor about this sort of thing (i mean, im a CHASER fan for god's sake) it was simply the way this wasn't at all funny and seemed to somehow detract from the book, although i cant explain how.

  • sorry, i just realised that not everyone reading this will know who "the chaser" is. don't worry, it's an australian thing.

  • I aussie too, which makes it even harder for me to believe that you can like the chaser without finding this at least remotely amusing, if even for the most fleeting of moments.

My sentiment was probably misdirected here (for which I apologise) due my deep-set belief that a considerable portion of YouTube regulars have the mental equivalency of a tumor (FAKE!! S0 PH0T0SH0PPZ!! NICE B00BS THO), and therefore am immediately suspicious of anyone making references to classics.

  • haha, so true. oh well, no i assure you i have never made a post like that. oh well, agree to disagree?

  • BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU! ...even when he really doesn't want to!

  • It's excellent. The sock puppets were the best.

  • Wait a second isn't Big Brother supposed to be mustachioed

  • hmmm

  • The hide and seek was the best.

  • Doubleplusunboring.

    This is incredible.

  • So much more than funny, this is one of the best pieces I've seen to date. Everything is well done in this. Set design, script, acting, film making. Top notch. And the hook? While I saw it coming just ahead, it was fantastic. Bravo!

  • oh god winston should have done that in the novel. SO funny

  • lol, i remember hearing about this parody, truly is funny

  • Wonderful. Brilliant.

    I love Orwell's 1984.

  • nonunhilarious!

  • When I was growing up, I learned the best way to keep my parents out of my business was to do what they told me to do (while they were looking). I don't understand teens who rebel in front of their parents, it's self defeating. This video reminded me of that.

  • Double Plus Funny!

  • This is a work of genius.

    (and freaking hilarious)

  • I got this on a DVD a few years ago that came free in a magazine! Great film! And I just saw Mike Naughton in another funny "David Blaine" spoof on YouTube! Great work, dude!

  • XD I loved it.

  • Fight the Power! Bore them to death. :D

  • Brilliant.

  • Very funny!!! The main character reminds me of that one Will & Grace guy. 1984... BRILLIANT!!!

  • lol Citizen 43275B could be goldstein from 1984, i always wondered how he wrote that book with BB watching...

  • Citizen 43275B might be Emmanuel Goldstein. Goldstein and Big Brother were always together, but after BB rejected Goldstein (as depicted here) he managed to shut down the telescreen and write the "Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism" without BB watching.

  • Only problem is, neither Goldstein nor BB actually exist. O'Brien wrote Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism.

  • So O'Brien was the REAL dictator of Oceania in 1984?

  • Oceania doesn't HAVE dictator.

  • So if the proles are being tricked into believing there is a Big Brother watching everyone, and all the power is scattered in the Inner Party, then who is watching the Inner Party (O'Brien had a telescreen in his office)? They watch themselves?

  • The thought police can arrest Inner Party members. The structure of Oceanian society ensures that nobody can revolt. Not even the 'rulers'.

  • So the Thought Police can arrest themselves...

  • If one of them was truly thinking rebelliously, then yes, even a member of the thought police can be arrested. There can be no rebellion whatsoever. Any internal factors are stamped out before they can spread. And there are no external factors to liberate them because the war, if there even is one, is not meant to be won. In fact, it's possible that Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia, are all governed by the same body, as IngSoc, Neo-Bloshevism and Death-Worship are all the same thing.

  • Then what if learning quickly spreads? like when a very huge number of proles and some Inner Party members suddenly become philosophers or realize they are being tricked, like during the tiananmen square incident

And whoa, the thought police are masochists.

What you really mean that Oceania is actually a controlled anarchist society, because there is no actual leader or Head of State, only Ideas rule them all.

  • Inner Party Members can't realise they're being tricked because they're the ones organising the tricking. It's if they decide for themselves that doing so is wrong that they get MiniLuved. And proles can't become philosophers because they're too stupid. Proles are allowed more freedom than party members because the Party know they can't use their freedom to rebel.

  • At the Chestnut Tree Cafe...

Thought Police: I'll have an egg salad sandwich some Victory Gin and-

*Thinks to himself "Screw Big Brother!*

Thought Police: I am under arrest for Thought Crime!

He procedes to strangle himself while the entire cafe stares at him, wondering what he's high on.

  • I just read 1984, and I was pissing myself watching this. lol

  • Tremendous. Laughed so hard I blew out the circuts on my telescreen.

  • Awwww...! :( I felt really bad for Citizen 43275B! I'm -glad- he decided to go and fight against the system like that. Big Brother deserves to get smacked!

  • Spoiler alert: The citizen loses.

  • "No, we're... fighting thoughtcrime, we've got to go..." Ahahahaaa... I love this.

  • why does this guy remind me of Nicolas Cage?

  • well done great fan of 1984

  • Hey that was great! Brilliant references to 1984 and great production values.

  • All I'm going to say is.... wtf? haha
